The kite was invented in China around 1500
years ago. At first the kite was mostly used
for wars. Later, kites became a popular form
of entertainment. Kites were made from
paper or silk with bamboo frames. They were
light and could be carried by wind. As long as
there is enough space, you can play kites
with more than 20 people!
Board games
There are many board games in the Chinese
culture. One of the most popular was Go
(also called weiqi). Go was invented around
1500 years ago. Over time, Go became so
popular that all Chinese gentlemen had to
learn it. It is still very popular nowadays as a
hobby for many people!
5. Radios and televisions were invented in the
early 20th century. During the 1960s, almost
everyone in Hong Kong enjoyed free radio and
television programmes. While radios were
cheaper and most families would have one at
home, televisions were more expensive.
You could buy a flat with the price of 5
television sets! Therefore, people had to
share a TV together on streets. There

Since smartphones and tablet computers are available, people have
spent most of their time on their electronic devices playing online games
(e.g. Candy Crush), using social media (e.g. Facebook, Weibo), watching
online videos (e.g. YouTube) or sending text messages (e.g. Wechat,
WhatsApp).
9. It is very convenient because people can use their phones or tablets on
their own anywhere. However, using devices with a bright screen may
hurt your eyes and you may not be able to sleep well. Remember not to
use them too much!
