NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during
performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair
of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers
before opening any compartment or disassembling any component
containing fluids.
Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool
Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on
Cat®
products.
Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Note: Note the position of the wiring harness clips.
1. If necessary, remove housing (6).
2. Install Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to torque converter (5). The weight of torque
converter (5) is approximately 95 kg (209 lb).
Note: The torque converter needs to make three spline connections and spin freely to be
properly seated.
3. Install torque converter (5) Remove the suitable lifting device and Tooling (A).

4. Position a new gasket and install housing (6). Install bolts (7) the washers and the clips.
Note: Install a new retaining ring (3) Do not reuse old retaining ring (3).
5. Install plate (4). Install retaining ring (3).

6. Using tooling (A), install the O-ring seals onto pilot (2) and install pilot (2). Install retaining
ring (1).
End By:
a. Install the transmission.

Gear Pump (Transmission Scavenge) - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure
Start By:
a. Release the system pressure.
b. Install the steering frame lock.
1. Tilt the cab. Refer to the Operations and Maintenance Manual, "Cab - Tilt" for the correct
procedure.
2. Disconnect hose assembly (1) and tube (2).
3. Remove bolts (3) and the washers. Remove transmission pump (4) and the O-ring seal.

Transmission Oil Filter - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure
Start By:
a. Release the system pressure.
NOTICE

1. Removing housing (5) and the O-ring seal. Remove the filter.
2. To remove the transmission oil filter base, complete the following steps.
3. Disconnect three hose assemblies (2). Disconnect harness assemblies (1) and (4).
4. Remove bolts (3) and the oil filter base.
5. Remove harness assembly (6).
1. Install the transmission oil filter in the reverse order of removal.
a. If the transmission oil filter base was removed. Tighten harness assembly (6) to a
torque of 15 ± 3 N·m (133 ± 27 lb in).
b. Tighten housing (5) to a minimum torque of 50 N·m (37 lb ft) to a maximum torque
of 100 N·m (74 lb ft). Tighten housing (5) with 1-1/2 inch socket or box end wrench.

Start By:
a. Remove the cooling package.
Personal injury or death can result from improper lifting or blocking.
When a hoist or jack is used to lift any part or component, stand clear of
the area. Be sure the hoist or jack has the correct capacity to lift a
component. Install blocks or stands before performance of any work
under a heavy component.

Approximate weights of the components are shown. Clean all surfaces
where parts are to be installed.
Personal injury can result from driveline torque windup under load.
Unequal wheel speed can result in driveline torque windup which can
cause driveline components to be under load during disassembly.
Relieve the driveline torque windup before disassembly.

1. Install Tooling (B) to stabilize the machine.

2. Use Tooling (A) in order to raise the front axle until one of the wheels clears the ground.
This will release the driveline torque windup in the drive train. Lower the machine and
remove Tooling (A).
3. Disconnect and set tube (2) to the side. Set hose assembly (1) to the side.
Main drive shaft connection at the transfer gears.

4. Attach a suitable lifting device to main drive shaft (3). The weight of main drive shaft (3) is
approximately 65 kg (143 lb).
5. Remove four bolts (4) and (5).
6. Remove main drive shaft (3) from the machine.
1. Install main drive shaft (3) in the reverse order of removal.
a. Inspect the drive shaft and replace any parts as needed.
b. Install the slip shaft with the female end toward the transmission.
c. Position main drive shaft (3) and align the keyways. Tighten bolts (4) and (5) to a
torque of 135 ± 20 N·m (100 ± 15 lb ft).

3. Mark the orientation of front drive shaft (2). The weight of front drive shaft (2) is
approximately 32 kg (70 lb). Remove eight bolts (1). Use two people and remove front
drive shaft (2).
1. Install front drive shaft (2) in the reverse order of removal.
a. Inspect front drive shaft (2) for damage and replace any parts as needed.
b. Position front drive shaft (2) and align keyways. Tighten eight bolts (1) to a torque of
135 ± 20 N·m (100 ± 15 lb ft).

Connect the steering frame lock link between the front and rear frames
before working on machine.
Do not disconnect the lock link until the machine is made operational
and the commissioning procedure is completed.
1. Use Tooling (B) in order to stabilize the machine.
2. Use Tooling (A) in order to raise the front axle until one of the wheels clears the ground.
This releases driveline torque windup in the front axle. Lower the front axle and remove
Tooling (A).

3. The weight of hitch drive shaft (2) is approximately 37 kg (81 lb).
4. Mark orientation and remove eight bolts (1) and from hitch drive shaft (2).
5. Use two people in order to remove hitch drive shaft (2) from the machine.
1. Install hitch drive shaft (2) in the reverse order of removal.
a. Inspect hitch drive shaft (2) for damage and replace any parts as needed.
b. Align the keyways and install bolts (1) in order to connect hitch drive shaft (2).
c. Tighten bolts (1) to a torque of 105 ± 20 N·m (77 ± 15 lb ft).

a. Remove the center drive shaft.
b. Remove the hitch drive shaft.
Personal injury or death can result from machine articulation or
movement.
Machine frames can move and a person can be crushed.

Connect the steering frame lock link between the front and rear frames
before working on machine.
Do not disconnect the lock link until the machine is made operational
and the commissioning procedure is completed.
Typical Example
View from the underside of the rear frame.
1. Remove bolts (1) in order to remove locking plate (2) from thrust flange (3) and bearing
carrier (4).
Typical Example
2. Turn over locking plate (2) and position the dowels on locking plate (2) into the holes in
thrust flange (3). Insert a suitable 3/4 inch breaker bar into the locking plate in order to turn
the thrust flange counterclockwise and remove thrust flange (3) from bearing carrier (4).
