1. RETHINK, RESHAPE AND AWAKE THE COMMUNITY
IN XYLOKASTRO
report from a project in Orfeas Organization
under the European Solidarity Corps

2. THE BEGINNING
Choosing to long-term volunteer in the European Solidarity
Corps was one of the most obvious decisions in my life.
After graduating from university, I started my adventure by
traveling, first I was a volunteer in Poland and then in Spain
as a short-term volunteer. Being able to spend a few months
in Greece working in an office seemed to be perfect for me.

3. ORFEAS ORGANIZATION
The seat of Orfeas Organization is located
in Xylokastro in north Peloponesse in
Greece. Xylokastro is a small town with
access to Korinth Gulf, beaches, forest,
and breathtaking landscapes around.
XYLOKASTRO
The main goal of Orfeas Organization is to organize and
support national programs of the partner municipalities,
heritage protection activities of the environment, and
organizing summer events, festivals, concerts, theatrical
performances, and exhibitions in cooperation with the local
municipalities.

4. MY ACTIVITIES
IN ORFEAS ORGANIZATION
As a volunteer in the office, I had to opportunity
to participate in coordination and supporting all our
volunteers and activities prepared by our organization.

5. RECYCLING WORKSHOPS
My biggest project was the organization of recycling workshops for kids from primary school. I was
responsible for making the plan and coordinating volunteers with the preparation of all materials. Then
we organize a series of workshops in the forest in Xylokastro.
The main goal of the workshop is to learn how to sort rubbish and to show that it is not difficult. To
make the workshops as interesting as possible, we have prepared a lot of activities for students, for
example recycling bingo or climate puzzles.

6. EUROPE DAY
All-day event for adults and kids from
Xylokastro. We prepared two main sections: the
first one with games and activities for children,
and the second one informing about European
countries, especially those from which our
volunteers come.

7. ENGLISH WORKSHOPS
Learning English in practice, preparing workshops
on a topic related to environmental protection

9. EDITING AND WRITING THE
ARTICLES TO E-MAGAZINE ORFEAS
I was also involved in editing e-magazine. I was in charge of design and coordination
of volunteers writing articles. I also wrote 4 articles to e-magazine.

16. SUMMARY
If you want to broaden your horizons, meet new people
and environment, and know yourself better I can highly
recommend you take part in one of the European
Solidarity Corps projects.
However, be prepared to step out of your comfort zone,
and be a little patient, because this is the start of a
whole new chapter in your life.
