3. COURSE DESCRIPTION
Recognizing Scripture's mandate for the leaders and
pastors to administer the affairs of the church or non-profit
ministry, this specialized course is designed to
introduce the managerial, accounting and
budgeting skills necessary to accomplish the tasks for
which they are responsible.
4. COURSE OUTCOMES
1. Explain the biblical and theological rationale for
effective administration
2. Analyze leadership and management principles
which apply to ministry situations;
3. Apply areas of effective administration in key
structural areas, including developing goals,
policies, strategic plans, as well as program
evaluation.

4. Evaluate approaches to managing human
resources as a way to developing healthy and
effectives ministries.
5. Demonstrate an ability to apply budgeting
principles to ministry finances and resources, as
well as using appropriate tools.
6. Demonstrate an understanding of legal and
ethical matters relevant to personal and ministry
contexts.

11. DISCUSSION BOARD
• Online Participation Policy
• No later than first Wednesday by midnight in order
to have demonstrated true intent to be enrolled in
the class.
• Make their first post no later than Wednesday each
week in order to receive full points. Late points will
be deducted for initial posts made after
Wednesday.
12. DISCUSSION BOARD
Online discussion guidelines
• Questions will relate to the week’s topic and assigned reading
and lectures presented by the instructor, and will give students
the opportunity to reflect their informed views on matters.
• Should reflect that they have indeed done their reading.
• Demonstrate knowledge of content studied in class, critical
thinking, analysis, application etc. and be supported by
relevant literature
• Make initial post, then respond to one other student, then
follow up with your respondent (3 posts per instructor question)
13. DISCUSSION BOARD
Weekly schedule for discussions
The following is a suggested weekly flow / schedule and what is
expected:
• By Tuesday / Wednesday – respond to the first discussion
question with a substantive response.
• By Thursday – respond to the second discussion question (if
one is posted) with a substantive response and respond to at
least two other students’ posts with substantive responses.
• By Friday/ Saturday – respond to at least one of the professor’s
follow-up posts. If the professor did not respond specifically to
you, then respond to another student post.
14. RESEARCH PROJECT
• For the final class project, students are to do a project that
can have real-world application and help them in managing
their church or ministry. While academic, they should be
written in a way that will engage their intended audience
(e.g. church staff, volunteers, church board, etc.). You may
choose ONE of the following projects:
• A policy and procedures manual for your church or ministry.
• A strategic plan for your church or ministry.
• A human resources development plan.

15. FINAL EXAM
• In the eighth week of the class, a final exam will be posted in
Blackboard.
• Multiple choice, true / false, as well as several open/essay
type questions.
• In order to prepare, be sure to track the key ideas from the
textbook (e.g. section headers) and know the basics of these.
• Consider keeping a log of key concepts you can use to develop your study material
for this.
• A study guide will be given in week 6 to help you prepare, but
preparation should begin early in the class by developing
ways to help you track and review key concepts.
