Silver Islet, Lake Superior

1. We are off to explore Silver Islet,
Lake Superior, Ontario Canada

3. On this small islet in 1868, a few
miles off shore, two shafts were
dug and over 3.25 million dollars
worth of silver was removed. The
tailings were used to enlarge the
island. Houses and a mill were built.
Flooding of the shafts, due to a
delay in coal to run the pumps, shut
down the mine in 1884.

10. Nathan, a resident guide, leads our group
through the small town.
