1. Al-Baqarah (1-7)
Everything has a peak, and the peak of the Quran is Suratul Baqarah.
The meaning behind Alif, Lam, Mim by Fakhruddin Ar-Razi: Allah taught us to ask for
guidance (was mentioned in Al-Fatihah)
o We ask for guidance, you ask for guidance, HE said something that we can’t
understand, in other word HE puts our intellects in it’s place
o HE let us know that if we really want to get guidance from this book, understand that
you can’t understand everything: Understand that HE knows more than you, and
what he gives you, you’re going to make an attempt to understand, you’re going to
ask Allah to give you the understanding of this deen but in the end all knowledges is
belong to him.
o If you come with an arrogant attitude, you got nothing but if you submit to Allah’s
words and then you get the benefits and the doors to Allah’s knowledge is opened
“Dzalikha” means “this is” but usually the Arabic use “Hazha”. “Dzalikha” is the word that you
use to talk about something far away
o The messenger doesn’t have the physical book with him
o The words come in to his heart and he recites the ayah to the people and there is no
piece of paper, there is no book to show.
o Where is the book? Allah didn’t say Quran here besides he said “kitab”, book
o Where is the book? It is in the 7th
heaven, it’s with Allah, it’s in Lauhul Mahfuz
o When you’re pointing something way up there, clearly it’s far away, HE said
“Dzalikha”
o This magnifying the greatness of the book
There is absolutely no room for any doubt, whatsoever in it
o You ask for guidance and this is the response to that request
Send us a guidance, a great guidance
o It will be an enormous guidance for the people who have taqwa
o This peak of al-Quran begins with the mention of taqwa (it comes over with 36 times
in this surah with different forms)
o It has something directly to do with our pursuit of guidance
o Those who ask for guidance and actually want a benefit from that guidance there will
be only for those who has this feeling inside them called taqwa
o Taqwa is not just fear, fear is something else, taqwa is the attempt to protect
yourself, to be careful, to be cautious
o Guidance for those who really want to take care of the religion, who are afraid of
falling into sin, who are truly fearful of disappointing Allah, thus proceed carefully
Those who believe in which they cannot see (al-ghaib), and they establish the solah
o If you believe in the unseen, establishing solah is easy
o If your believe in unseen is weak, you’ll be lazy in solah also
o Those who takes care of solah, establishing it
o He didn’t say they pray, he said establishing solah
2. o Establishing means something, it doesn’t break, it doesn’t flinch, it’s firm. What kind
of people who would be able to strengthen their solah like that? People who believe
in the unseen
And then from whatever we had ever provided them and only from what we have provide
them is spent
o You’re not spending anything that’s yours, HE tells us he gives you and now you
spent it
o You spent for the sake of Allah and I know this much is known for giving others, even
other institution or organization opportunities to ask for funds, remember that we’re
not giving anything that’s ours, we’re giving that which Allah has given us
o There is Dunya Account, there is Akhirah Account, and you’re transferring funds.
When you’re transferring funds between accounts in this Dunya you don’t say you
lose lots of money, it is not Allah’s it is a transfer of fund isn’t it? Because both are
your account and they’re not anybody else accounts. “From what we have provided
them, they spent.”
Real Iman
o Establish your solah, if you really have established your solah and then what will
come easy for you? Spending in the sake Allah is easy for you because you recognize
it is given from Allah anyway
They believe in what was send to you, and they believe what was send much before you
o We’re not like those who ridicule previous revelation and this is the mistake the
muslim my made when they get excited:
We still have to respect the bible although they have changed it because
there might still be Allah’s words in it somewhere
We have Iman in that which was sent, we acknowledge that there may have
change in their books
We still have regards for the original revelation that was set, we don’t drop
from our standard just because they drop by their standard
You’re gonna to hear lots of painful things from them (The Christian), you
have to be ready for it
If you have sabar and continue to have taqwa and then you’ll be alright, then
Allah will take care of your affair
This ayah also means that there is no messenger after Rasullulah, as they
believe what was send to you (the messenger) and they believe what was
send much before you ( the messengers before Rasulullah)
The afterlife, especially the afterlife they are thoroughly convinced in it. You’re really
convinced of it. You’re convinced like you know what is the cause and effect. Iman
Those who are the people committed to great guidance from their master and those who are
truly successful
o Muflih- the farmer
He successful after a long time of labour
Where is doubt rest? Heart. Guidance rest? Heart. Taqwa is where? Heart. Believe/Iman?
Heart.
All the matter that we talked about are related to heart.
Allah seals the heart first, and then the hearing.
