1. UNIT PORTFOLIO
Newton’s Laws of Motion
SubjectArea:Science IV (Physics)
Grade Level:FourthYearHighSchool
Preparedby:Felix T.Bunagan
LessonSummary:
The unit plan primarily aims to teach the students the concepts of the three laws of motion by
Isaac Newton and how it is related to land transportation, sports and daily activities. Through
the various activities that will be given to the students, they will discover the principles behind
land transport, unravel the mysteries of land transport safety and learn the principles behind
the design of the latest land vehicles and teach the students the importance of following road
signs. Significantly, this unit plan will inculcate into the minds of the students their concern
towards the environment by doing a documentary of the condition of the air in Metro Manila in
relation to our present mode of transport and the impact of the latest mode of transport – the
MRT, electric vehicles and LPG cars. This will also create awareness on the students about
the state of our present land transport system.
To answer the essential question, the POEA (Predict-Observe-Explain-Approach) strategy will
be used. Learning station will be presented to the group where they will discover the topic
being presented. Specific task will be given to each group. Some groups will be doing a
photo-story of Newton’s laws of motion application in land transportation, newsletter
containing road safety and latest breakthrough in car safety. Select groups will be required to
make a documentary of the condition of the air in Metro Manila and the impact of the latest
mode of land transport-the MRT, electric vehicles and LPG cars. Also, some groups will be
tasked to do a video presentation of Physics tricks applying Newton’s laws of motion. All
groups will design a balloon powered car. With the application of Windows Movie Maker or
MS PowerPoint, they will do a presentation of their preparation and the things that they have
considered in the construction of the balloon powered rocket car. Also, each group will make
a banner, invitation, poster, and leaflets using the MS Publisher or any software program for
the promotion of mini-Physics Olympics which will be held at the Makati High School RHS
Hall as a culmination of their activity. There will be a battery operated fan powered car racing
and balloon powered car racing. The materials used in making the car must be recyclable
materials. The task given to every group is based on their skills and level of learning.
A mini-exhibit will be held at the last day of the execution of the unit plan. The mini-exhibit to
be held the RHS Hall will showcase the output of each group. The exhibit will be open to all
students and teachers in the school and in the division. In a way, this will encourage students
as well as teachers to appreciate the necessity of integrating various activities to make a
simple learning task worthwhile.
