dressing
They support and protect the injured area, shoul be sterile
Formed from loose threads and fibers
4. Classification of surgical dressing
They are two types

2. Secondary dressing
5. Primary dressing
Primary are those s.dressing that are in direct contact with wound
Primary dressing are applied over wound surface to absorb pus ,mucus, blood
and wound secretion they are actually absorbent
E.g petrolatum impregnated gauge,viscose gause,absorbent pad ,gauze
pad,RayOn,cotton,wool and hydrogel etc
6. Secondary surgical dressing
They are not in direct contact with wound but support primary dressing
1 BANDAGES
A bandages is a material which holds dressing at the required site
It may be elastic or non elastic in nature
Common gauze roller bandage and muslin bandage rolls are used
7. Adhesive tapes
Surgical adhesive tapes may be a rubber based adhesive or an acrylate based
They are used to stick the abandage and primary dressing to wound surface
8. Protectives
Protectives are employed to cover wet dressings and for retention of heat
They prevent the escape of moisture from the dressing
They are plastic sheeting, waxed or oil coated paper
9. Fibers
Fibers is thin thread of natural and artificial carbohydrate substances that is
used to make tO make cloth or rope
These are non digestible carbohydrates
Are also used medical to make surgical dressing
10. Animals fiber
These are the fibers abstained from animal
These are two
