How Failure Breeds Success
1. What perceptual problems do managers need to overcome with failures? How can these
perceptual problems be minimized?
It is a fact that even effective managers can present a project which can be failed but if the
manager deals the problem with his intellect, then ultimately his failure can give him a huge
success as failure breeds success. Success can be found in the learning process which a manger
adopts after failure. He can retain his good position by overcoming his failures and by doing
good tasks. The manager should be able to acknowledge his mistakes and assure that it will not
happen again. Some of the problems which managers need to overcome with failure are:
Mismanagement
A project can be failed due to the mismanagement of the manager. In this case, the
manager can be succeeded by showing his abilities in the next project. He should explain the
failure of the project and should take responsibility over his actions. He must accept his errors in
the judgment. The manager should outline facts that how he will make other projects successful.
Lack of proficiency
When a manager faces failure in his project which is supposed to be because of lack of
knowledge of that project, he can once again bring that project on to the way to success by
addressing the prospective for that project. The manager should explain his areas of mistake and
can assure the workers that he will once again bring the project on to the success.
Inability to lead
Leadership failure may result in the project failure. The manager should be able to gain
the confidence and trust of his seniors that he will be able to bring the team work in a project and
should explain that he will be able to lead the workers to work cooperatively with each other as a
team.
Communication
Sometimes misunderstanding or other poor communication of the manager with his
employees may lead a project towards failure. The managers should develop a communication
strategy by which he can contact his workers during a team work. Feedbacks and intentions of
the people should be kept in mind to work on the way to success.
Ineffectiveness
A manager who fails to satisfy his customers or loses his sales may be termed as
ineffective. Ineffectiveness may lead to failure; the manager should think on his approaches and
should define his key objectives and goals to the company that will help in improving the future
performance. (Mc Querrey, n.d)
2. Describe the experiential learning process that companies mentioned in this case study, apply
to learn from their mistakes and failures.
Experiential learning is the process in which the individuals or companies learn from
their own mistakes. First of all, companies have to determine the cause of problem and then
manager play its role as the problem managers. Various studies have showed us that there is a
relation between learning style and problem solving. Every staff member is involved in this
process as the managers, employees and organizations and all play their respective roles in the
problem solving. Experiential learning is a complete process in which the team of the company
learns how to overcome their failures to become successful. In this process, the knowledge is
created by going through different experiences. The experience may be concrete or it may just be
the abstract conceptualization. In the same way, companies apply experimental learning in the
projects to identify the problems and to work on them. Failure can be a step towards success, if
learning and experience is applied. (Kolb, 2008)
