4. The early believers were able to turn the
world upside down because of the
following principles:

6. 12 Then the apostles returned to Jerusalem
from the hill called the Mount of Olives, a
Sabbath day’s walk[a] from the city.
13 When they arrived, they went upstairs to
the room where they were staying. Those
present were Peter, John, James and
Andrew; Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew
and Matthew; James son of Alphaeus and
Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James.

7. 14 They all joined together constantly in
prayer, along with the women and Mary the
mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.

8. 23 So they nominated two men: Joseph
called Barsabbas (also known as
Justus) and Matthias.
24 Then they prayed, “Lord, you know
everyone’s heart. Show us which of
these two you have chosen
25 to take over this apostolic ministry,
which Judas left to go where he
belongs.”

9. 42 They devoted themselves to the
apostles’ teaching and to fellowship,
to the breaking of bread and to
prayer.
43 Everyone was filled with awe at the
many wonders and signs performed
by the apostles.
44 All the believers were together and
had everything in common.

10. 45 They sold property and
possessions to give to anyone who
had need.
46 Every day they continued to meet
together in the temple courts. They
broke bread in their homes and ate
together with glad and sincere hearts,

11. 47 praising God and enjoying the
favor of all the people. And the Lord
added to their number daily those
who were being saved.

13. 1 When the day of Pentecost came, they
were all together in one place.
2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a
violent wind came from heaven and filled
the whole house where they were sitting.
3 They saw what seemed to be tongues
of fire that separated and came to rest on
each of them.

14. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy
Spirit and began to speak in other
tongues[a] as the Spirit enabled them.

15. 8 But you will receive power when the
Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be
my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all
Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of
the earth

17. 17 Then the high priest and all his
associates, who were members of the party
of the Sadducees, were filled with jealousy.
18 They arrested the apostles and put them
in the public jail.
19 But during the night an angel of the Lord
opened the doors of the jail and brought
them out.

18. 20 “Go, stand in the temple courts,” he said,
“and tell the people all about this new life.”
21 At daybreak they entered the temple
courts, as they had been told, and began to
teach the people. When the high priest and
his associates arrived, they called together
the Sanhedrin—the full assembly of the
elders of Israel—and sent to the jail for the
apostles.

19. 22 But on arriving at the jail, the officers
did not find them there. So they went
back and reported,
23 “We found the jail securely locked, with
the guards standing at the doors; but
when we opened them, we found no one
inside.”

20. 24 On hearing this report, the captain of
the temple guard and the chief priests
were at a loss, wondering what this might
lead to.
25 Then someone came and said, “Look!
The men you put in jail are standing in
the temple courts teaching the people.”

21. 26 At that, the captain went with his
officers and brought the apostles. They
did not use force, because they feared
that the people would stone them.

22. 27 The apostles were brought in and
made to appear before the Sanhedrin to
be questioned by the high priest.
28 “We gave you strict orders not to teach
in this name,” he said. “Yet you have filled
Jerusalem with your teaching and are
determined to make us guilty of this
man’s blood.”

23. 29 Peter and the other apostles replied:
“We must obey God rather than human
beings!
30 The God of our ancestors raised Jesus
from the dead—whom you killed by
hanging him on a cross.
31 God exalted him to his own right hand as
Prince and Savior that he might bring Israel
to repentance and forgive their sins.

24. 32 We are witnesses of these things, and so
is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to
those who obey him.”
33 When they heard this, they were furious
and wanted to put them to death.
34 But a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a
teacher of the law, who was honored by all
the people, stood up in the Sanhedrin and
ordered that the men be put outside for a
little while.

25. 35 Then he addressed the Sanhedrin: “Men
of Israel, consider carefully what you intend
to do to these men.
36 Some time ago Theudas appeared,
claiming to be somebody, and about four
hundred men rallied to him. He was killed,
all his followers were dispersed, and it all
came to nothing.

26. 37 After him, Judas the Galilean appeared
in the days of the census and led a band
of people in revolt. He too was killed, and
all his followers were scattered.
38 Therefore, in the present case I advise
you: Leave these men alone! Let them go!
For if their purpose or activity is of human
origin, it will fail.

27. 39 But if it is from God, you will not be able
to stop these men; you will only find
yourselves fighting against God.”
40 His speech persuaded them. They
called the apostles in and had them
flogged. Then they ordered them not to
speak in the name of Jesus, and let them
go.

28. 41 The apostles left the Sanhedrin,
rejoicing because they had been counted
worthy of suffering disgrace for the
Name.
42 Day after day, in the temple courts and
from house to house, they never stopped
teaching and proclaiming the good news
that Jesus is the Messiah.

30. In those days when the number of disciples
was increasing, the Hellenistic Jews[a]
among them complained against the
Hebraic Jews because their widows were
being overlooked in the daily distribution of
food. 2 So the Twelve gathered all the
disciples together and said, “It would not be
right for us to neglect the ministry of the
word of God in order to wait on tables.

31. 3 Brothers and sisters, choose seven men
from among you who are known to be full of
the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this
responsibility over to them
4 and will give our attention to prayer and
the ministry of the word.”

32. 5 This proposal pleased the whole group.
They chose Stephen, a man full of faith
and of the Holy Spirit; also Philip,
Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas,
and Nicolas from Antioch, a convert to
Judaism. 6 They presented these men to
the apostles, who prayed and laid their
hands on them.

33. 7 So the word of God spread. The
number of disciples in Jerusalem
increased rapidly, and a large number of
priests became obedient to the faith.

35. 19 Now those who had been scattered by the
persecution that broke out when Stephen
was killed traveled as far as Phoenicia,
Cyprus and Antioch, spreading the word only
among Jews. 20 Some of them, however,
men from Cyprus and Cyrene, went to
Antioch and began to speak to Greeks also,
telling them the good news about the Lord
Jesus.

36. 21 The Lord’s hand was with them, and a
great number of people believed and turned
to the Lord.
22 News of this reached the church in
Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas to
Antioch in Jerusalem, and they sent
Barnabas to Antioch.

37. 23 When he arrived and saw what the grace
of God had done, he was glad and
encouraged them all to remain true to the
Lord with all their hearts.
24 He was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit
and faith, and a great number of people were
brought to the Lord.
25 Then Barnabas went to Tarsus to look for
Saul,

38. 26 and when he found him, he brought him to
Antioch. So for a whole year Barnabas and
Saul met with the church and taught great
numbers of people. The disciples were called
Christians first at Antioch.
27 During this time some prophets came
down from Jerusalem to Antioch.

39. 28 One of them, named Agabus, stood up
and through the Spirit predicted that a
severe famine would spread over the entire
Roman world. (This happened during the
reign of Claudius.) 29 The disciples, as each
one was able, decided to provide help for the
brothers and sisters living in Judea. 30 This
they did, sending their gift to the elders by
Barnabas and Saul.

40. 1 Now in the church at Antioch there were
prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon
called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen (who
had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch)
and Saul.
2 While they were worshiping the Lord and
fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me
Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I
have called them.”

41. 3 So after they had fasted and prayed, they
placed their hands on them and sent them
off.

43. 9 But some of them became obstinate; they
refused to believe and publicly maligned the
Way. So Paul left them. He took the disciples
with him and had discussions daily in the
lecture hall of Tyrannus.
10 This went on for two years, so that all the
Jews and Greeks who lived in the province
of Asia heard the word of the Lord

45. Jesus commanded us to go and make
disciples of all nations. His disciples
were able to do it because they are
strong in prayer, they were filled by the
Holy Spirit, they were steadfast in their
commitment, they have right priorities
and right structures, they were
passionate in great commission, and
they continuously equip leaders and
hone their skills. Same we can do if we
could have the above principles.
