This poem is an elegy for a lost lover. The narrator recalls a romantic moment with their paramour under the moonlight, but tears come as they know this night will be their last together. Their lover's life is taken, perhaps in payment of some debt owed by the narrator. As their lover's breath slips away, the narrator sings a lullaby and vows their love will persist beyond death at the edge of the earth where they exist together.
