Acronym for Capacitive and Resistive Energy Transfer, the T.E.C.A.R. Therapy is an innovative
treatment used in vet physiotherapy and rehabilitative field to heal traumas and pathologies of the
musculoskeletal system.
This physical therapy is a thermotherapy, that is a method that produces heat from the inside of the
body tissues for therapeutic aim.
It is defined as an endogenous therapy because the heat is not irradiated from the outside, but it is
produced directly from the inside of the tissues through the application of a variable electric field at
high frequency.
The T.E.C.A.R. Therapy, by means of handpieces or electrodes, brings the energy directly to the
treated part where the therapeutic action should be applied.
This therapy can be used in two different modes, that is the capacitive mode and the resistive mode.
Depending on the chosen mode, the energy transfer and the biologic effects will be completely
different.
The capacitive mode acts on soft tissue (skin, connective tissue, circular and lymphatic system,
muscles), while the resistive mode concentrates its effects on the tissues that have a greater
resistance to the passage of electric charges (bone tissue, cartilage, tendons, ligaments).
The therapeutic effects of the T.E.C.A.R. therapy are the biostimulating effect, the anti-edemigenous
effect and the antinflammatory effect.
T.E.C.A.R. Therapy can be used in the treatment of different acute, chronic musculoskeletal and skin
diseases that affect DOGS, CATS and HORSES.

Laser therapy is a rehabilitation and therapeutic modality that uses the laser light to enhance the
body’s healing process. It is painless and non-invasive and it can be used to accelerate skin wound
healing and to treat all musculoskeletal diseases with pain, inflammation and edema.
The main therapeutic effects of the laser light used in vet physiotherapy and rehabilitation are the
anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-edema and biostimulating effect.
The biostimulating activity contributes to the reparation and cicatrization of the tissues thanks
to the increased supply of oxygen and nutrients, to the modulation of the cell proliferation and
differentiation, to the activation of the cell functions and to the modulation of the synthesis and the
organization of proteins and extra-cell matrix.
The analgesic effect of the Laser therapy develops through a combination of many factors. Laser
therapy reduces the inflammatory component in tissues, modulates the conduction of the pain
stimulus, reduces muscle contracture and edema and contributes to removing the pro-inflammatory
markers in the damaged tissue.
The anti-inflammatory and anti-edema effects develop through the local modulation of the
biochemical markers, through the different tissue distribution of the inflammatory cells and the
reduction of the local formation of the edema, of the hemorrhage and of the necrosis and through
the inhibition of the production of molecules with inflammatory activities.
The Laser therapy can be used in the treatment of different musculoskeletal and skin diseases that
affect DOGS, CATS and HORSES.

In rehabilitation and veterinary physical therapy the electric current is used for two main aims: to
reduce the pain perception and for the stimulation of the excitable tissues (muscles).
The analgesic effect is promoted by electricity through the membrane hyperpolarization by the
way of the Gate control theory and by means of hyperemia and the increase in the morphine-like
mediators.
ANTALGIC ELECTROTHERAPY OR ELECTROANALGESIA
TENS is the acronym for Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation. This technique, developed at
the end of 70s, has been a considerable qualitative leap in the antalgic therapy field.
The analgesic currents are recommended in the symptomatic treatment of peripheral pain. They
are particularly effective in controlling the pain related to most inflammatory processes and
osteoarthrosis.
NEUROMUSCULAR ELECTROSTIMULATION
The electric current is able to promote the muscle contraction acting on the motoneuron and on the
muscle. The interaction between electric stimuli and biologic tissues is a very complex phenomenon
and the choice of a stimulation signal is an important therapeutic act that should be formulated
according to the functional conditions of the muscle (innervated muscle, denervated or partially
denervated muscle) and depending on the aim to pursue. Stimulation electrotherapy addresses
normal innervated and denervated muscles.
Neuromuscular stimulation can be used for stimulation in different pathological and non pathological
situations. Even if it does not replace physical activity in the neuromuscular reactivation, electrotherapy
is an useful integration of it.
In some pathologies, such as for example the peripheral paralysis, electrotherapy represents one
of the few aids that permits to interact with the muscular tissue in a different way than the passive
exercise.
Tens and Neuromuscular electrostimulation are therapeutic techniques usable in the treatment of
different pathologies that affect the DOG, the CAT and the HORSE.

Ultrasound consists in high frequency sound waves emitted by a medical device and applied on the
tissue to treat through the use of an handpiece.
Ultrasound therapy is used in veterinary rehabilitation and physiotherapy for its thermal, non-thermal
and anti-inflammatory effects. Ultrasound therapy produces a thermal and non-thermal mechanic
stimulation to facilitate the healing of the damaged tissues of the muscles, tendons, articular capsules,
ligaments and bones.
The therapeutic effects of the Ultrasound therapy include the increase in the cell metabolism and
the relative enzymatic activity, in circulation, in elasticity and viscoelastic tissue property and the
decrease in the pain sensation. The thermal effect of the therapeutic ultrasound increases the
tissue temperature and the blood flow in order to provide greater nutrition and more oxygen to the
damaged tissue. This effect can be used to treat some injuries or chronic conditions of soft tissues.
The non-thermal biologic effects of Ultrasound therapy include the acceleration of healing, the help
in the regeneration and reparation of soft tissues, an increase in the synthesis of the cell proteins,
the edema reduction, a better bone reparation and a minor muscle spasm and pain. The therapeutic
thermal effects of ultrasound include all the non-thermal effects, as well as an increase in articular
mobility, in collagen elasticity, in muscle contractures, the help in the tendon tissue reparation, the
resolution of the inflammatory processes and the reduction of the cicatrized tissue.
The Ultrasound therapy is effective in the treatment of the tendon, muscle and ligament pathologies
of the DOG, the CAT and the HORSE. It is also used in presence of scar adhesions and articular
stiffness.

Magnetotherapy is a physiotherapy based on the application of specific magnetic field to the
organism; generally in this field low frequency (CEMP) magnetic fields are used.
The magnetic fields are normally present in nature and have an essential role in the regulation of
vital biological functions by influencing the permeability of the cell membrane and acting on the
molecule disposition and orientation. The biological effects of pulsed magnetic fields are the electric-
magnetic effect consisting in the electrical current induction in the organism and the mechanic-
magnetic effect that causes the transfer of magnetic substance and influences the orientation of
the paramagnetic substances until causing their alignment along the vectorial lines.
The therapeutic effects of pulsed magnetic fields are the biostimulating, analgesic, and anti-

Magnetotherapy is a therapeutic technique that is normally used in veterinary orthopedic field for the
treatment of non consolidated fractures and pseudoarthrosis and for the non-invasive treatment
of the pathologies affecting the musculoskeletal apparatus, by acting on inflammation and pain and
having a reparative action on bone, muscle and skin tissue.
Magnetotherapy can be used daily to treat in a painless way different pathologies affecting the
