About the Open Source Department
A team of multidisciplinary experts in the
development of complex embedded systems
or not, based on Linux environments. They
have a wide range of skills, from Operating
System components to graphical interfaces,
via service platforms with network aspects,
protocols and security.
Eurogiciel is now able to provide end to end
services to integrate its own OEM software
components to simplify developments.
Nowadays, in our connected society, CDs, DVDs or either Photos’ albums
have disappeared to be replaced by hard drive discs in our mobile devices.
Even though people do not have media supports anymore, they still want to
share their lives’ memories with friends and families. Thus content
broadcasting has become an issue.
For a couple of years, Miracast™ has been the answer to this issue. It was
developed by the Wi-Fi Alliance® consortium, to display content from a
mobile device to an external screen like a virtual HDMI cable. This is an
alternative solution to the other current ones which mostly rely on
proprietary code and thus limits the range of devices compatibility.
This technology is at its genesis. Even though some mobile devices
manufacturers have for several years already been dealing with content
sharing issues, they made it on their own with proprietary methods.
Miracast™ instead, tends to become the universal reference for wireless
video casting and the Wi-Fi Alliance® is expecting to reach the billions of
users in 2016. Microsoft and Google, two leaders of the IT market trust in
this technology and implemented it natively in their Windows 8.1 and
Androïd 4.2.
Eurogiciel’s Open Source Department, specialized in embedded wireless
multimedia software, has developed a stack (a set of software
components) called EmbPLUG Miracast™ that aims at implementing the
technology in any multimedia device equipped with a screen. It can be a
projector, a TV, a camera or either a car’s infotainment system. By this way
Eurogiciel takes part to the wireless screen broadcasting boom.
Locatel who provides innovating solutions for Televisions in luxury hotel
rooms, already believes in EmbPLUG Miracast™ and use it for one of its Set-
Top-Box. It enables hotel’s guests to display their own content on their
room’s TV.
On the 18-20th March 2014, Eurogiciel will attend the TV Connect show in
London. Our team will be demonstrating the Miracast™ experience on
Locatel’s Set-Top-Box 11 featuring the Intel® Atom™ Processor CE5300. A
Galaxy S4, a Nexus and a Surface Pro tablet will be used to present the
solution at Intel’s TV Connect suite.
