This presentation gives a brief about Detection of Phenol in Water and Air Using the zNose®.
It begins with giving an introduction about Phenol it's effects on the health of humans and animals.
Next, the presentation talks about steps to detect Phenol in Air and water using Znose® and SlickStick® Accessory.

Phenol is an aromatic organic
compound. It is an important industrial
commodity that acts as a versatile
precursor to a large collection of
drugs. Phenol can have toxic effect on
the health of humans and animals
alike. Exposure to phenol can cause
systemic poisoning and also
adversely affect the respiratory tracts.

Introducing…zNose®
It is difficult to quantify the chemistry of aromas because of the overlapping responses
and physical instability
A new type of electronic nose, that can perform analytical measurements of volatile organic
vapors and odors in near real time with part-per-trillion sensitivity.

• Standard phenol vapor is created by injecting 10 μL of standard solution (147.5 ng) into a 250 mL bottle.
• A side-ported sampling needle is used to test 3.17 mL vapor samples. The samples are replicated for
accuracy.
• The minimum vapor detection limit for phenol was 3.25 nanograms/liter using zNose® .

• Headspace vapors are created and tested directly using s side-ported needle.
• Concentration of phenol vapors is low at room temperature. Water is heated using
a two-zone, top and bottom, vial heater accessory.
• zNose® detects 0.250 ppb headspace vapors at room temperature. 100ppb is
detected when the temperature is raised to 40oC.

• Concentrated vapors in the tenax of the SlickStick® is desorbed and
collected by the internal trap of the zNose®. (Figure 15)
• The desorbing temperature is raised to 200oC by the software program.
• The minimum detection level for phenol in water is was 10 ppb.
Detecting Phenol in Water Using SlickStick® Accessory
Electronic Sensor Technology, has developed and patented, a breakthrough electronic nose technology, trademarked zNose, which complements existing security systems, and eliminates the vulnerabilities associated with current trace, and x-ray detection systems.
