2. Mood Board
The films above inspired me to want to create a Horror/Thriller opening scene. I like the
tension that is created during this specific genre which makes the audience eager to see
how the story line unfolds. Enigma codes are dropped during the begging of the film to
make the audience think, which I think makes this genre exciting. I would like to create an
opening scene that questions the audience, and allows them to be able to think for
themselves.
3. The Story
As I would want my film to draw in a younger audience like myself, I
think setting the opening scene in a school would encourage a
younger audience. It would start with two 16 year olds entering a
school at night to finish off some work that is due in the next day.
Whilst entering the school, strange, spiritual things beginning to
happen which makes one of them interested to explore. The other
stays to finish there work. The person who has gone to explore
experiences doors slamming strange voices, dripping blood etc.
They rush back to the class room to get there friend to find them
dead on the desk.
Before the students enter the school, enigma codes begin to form to
make the audience aware that something is up with this school,
(areas seems deserted, lights flickering etc) We will also allow the
audience to see things that the characters can’t, this will build
tension.
4. Genre
Horror/Thriller (mainly Thriller)
(This will be made aware with sound, editing
etc)
I think that sound would be a key element to
help set the scene/genre as it creates a
mood/feeling for the audience.
5. Target Audience
The age certificate of this film would be a ‘15’.
There would be some elements of gore, (e.g.
When one of the characters die, they will
have been brutally murdered)
6. Setting
The whole film would be set in a school, but
specifically a classroom. Corridors would also
be part of the setting in some scenes.
It would have to be filmed during dusk so it is
just getting dark, then there would need to
be some scenes that show that it is in pitch
black.
7. Themes
There would be elements of naivety as there are
2 young students in a large area whilst being
scared.
High school and teenagers would be a large
theme as it links to the setting and
characters.
Spirits are the main cause of fear for the
characters, so this would play a big role,
along with gore which would be shown at the
end.
8. Character Profiles
Name: Chloe

girl, brave, confident.

school (main character)
(Inspired by Chloe Moretz)
9. Character Profiles

Age: 15/16
Personality: Ditsy, clumsy, funny,
dopey.
Role: One of the girls who goes back
to school (main character)
(Inspired by Ariana Grande)
10. Mise en Scene
Key props such as blood and knifes will made
the audience aware of the genre more,
therefore linking it with horror/thriller.
Intense, high pitched music and sounds would
be used to create tension, and also make the
audience aware that something is going to
happen.
11. Textual Analysis
A variety of camera shots would be used to allow the audience to be
able to see what exactly is going on, so that they are aware of the
surroundings. A lot of match on action shots, long shots, and close
ups.
Music and sound will always reflect different moods that are trying to
be set, so if there is an intense waiting moment, then high pitched,
suspended sounds would be used.
Editing will play a key role, specifically lighting, as it will set the mood,
e.g. If it is dark it will give the feeling of eeriness and uncertainty.
Scenes should be cut accurately so that it all flows as one.
The costume would help represent that the girls are students, so school
uniform or casual clothes would represent this.
12. Institution
I would choose Warner Brothers to
produce this film as they are a very
successful company . Warner
Brothers are know for doing Harry
Potter and the way they have
edited there logo to fit in with the
eerie opening of Harry Potter. This
would come in handy when
opening our film as they would be
able to create a similar effect.
