These 14th European Karate Championships for the Regions in Kocaeli, Turkey, are surrounded by
great expectation after the very successful experiences of the previous editions of these Champion-
ships, hat have been continuously increasing in size and in quality since its first edition in 2003.
The unique opportunity for all European Regions to compete under their own name, flag and per-
sonality in an official sport event makes these Karate Regions Championships a rather singular and
attractive activity, bringing to the reality an historic aspiration that has proved to meet so many
expectations.
Also, the fact that the organisation of the event will be run by the Turkish Karate Federation is a
guarantee of quality and well doing. All European karate will travel to Kocaeli and will also have
the opportunity to close ties with the Turkish karate.
This 2016 edition continues counting with the incentive of a new format, with a rather imaginative
and successful proposal implemented in 2010 that includes the youth categories from 14 to 17
years. In the name of the big European Karate family, I want to thank you for your inestimable con-
tribution. Be sure we all will enjoy unforgettable experiences around karate in Kocaeli Turkey.

June 2016, Kocaeli Turkey.
Located in Marmara region, Kocaeli is one of the pioneer cities of Turkey both in industry and karate.
Kocaeli is a city that blended with production culture and hospitality and ready to host its first major
karate event.
As Turkish Karate Federation, we are proud to host European karate athletes and hope they take

KOCAELİ
Kocaeli is mostly known by its district center, Izmit.
The ancient name of the city is Nikomedia. Remains
from Roman and Byzantine times may be seen here,
among which are the citadel, the Temple of Augustus
and the agora.
The city of Izmit is mainly an industrial center in
Marmara region of Turkey with numerous industrial
establishments surrounding the Gulf of Izmit. However,
there are also many tourist sites in this bustling province.
Kartepe is a winter sports resort that reaches a height of
1600 m, Kerpe and Kefken on the Black Sea coast have
fine beaches, while Golcuk and Karamursel in the Gulf
of Izmit are other beautiful sea resorts.
At Arpalik near the Eskihisar village in the Gulf of Izmit,
there is a yacht berth place with a capacity of 60-80
yachts. Lake Sapanca in nearby Sakarya province is
another natural beauty and a scenic place ideal for
picnics. One of the towns of Kocaeli is Hereke, where
the very best Turkish carpets are produced. The artistic
carpets of Ottoman palaces were woven here only for
the sultans. These carpets are priceless and well-known
all over the world.
Kocaeli is the city that takes place on the highway and
railroad connecting Istanbul to Anatolia. The name of the
city was Nicomedeia in the times of Roman Empire.
Today it is a very industrial center for Turkey.

city was Nicomedeia in the times of Roman Empire. Today it is a very industrial center for Turkey.
The Saatçi Ali Efendi Mansion in the city, which is a very interesting example of 18th century Ottoman Civil
Architecture, had been restorated and now being used as Ethnography Museum.
"Pişmaniye" which is the local dessert of kocaeli is made by giving the sugar the shape of fibre.
Hereke, which is a district at the east side of Kocaeli is
a very important carpet production center. The carpets
of Hereke are very famous all around the world for
their beauty and high quality. These carpets are the
most expensive carpets of the Istanbul Carpet
Markets.
Kerpe, Kefken and Kovanağzı, at the north of Kocaeli
near Black Sea, are places that ecstatic places with
their sores and small and comfortable hotels.
Districts : İzmit, Derince, Gebze, Gölcük, Karamürsel,
Kandıra and Körfez
Eskihisar Castle It had been constructed during the
Byzantine times near the sea side, at a steep hill at the
northeast of Eskihisar Village. It had been constructed
in order to protect the harbour.
Watch Tower The watch tower takes place between the
Hunting Lodge and Atatürk Sculpture in Kemalpaşa
District of İzmit. ıt had been founded by Musa Kazım
Bey, as a gift for Abdulhamit the 2nd.

AGE CLAUSE
In accordance with EKF rules, on the first day of competition competitors must be:
1. KUMITE SENIOR: +18 years old
2. KATA SENIOR: +16 years old
3. KUMITE CADET AND JUNIOR: from 14 to 17 years old
4. KATA CADET AND JUNIOR: from 14 to 17 years old
Note! Senior Kata competitors CANNOT participate in Cadet and Junior Team Kata competition.
Insurance:
It is compulsory that all participants and members of delegations to have their own medical and
personal trip insurance. Turkish Karate Federation and European Karate Federation assume
no liability or responsibility for the lack of insurance from participants and members of delegations.
PRESS ACCREDITATION:
Press accreditations can only be given to professional journalists working for a media and having
proof of their credentials. Any requests for press accreditations have to be addressed to the
EKF HQ office (ekf@ekf.com.es).
MEDIA TV:
The EKF has all the rights related with the European Karate Championships. Only EKF accredited
media can broadcast photos and videos

Explanation of the number of teams allowed which
corresponds to the number of regions assigned:
Example with 3 regions signed: The participation alternatives are:
Helvetica 3 different regions, each bringing 4 teams
• 12 different regions, each bringing 1 team
Between these two limits, all other participation combinations are possible with the only condition
that one region cannot participate with more than 1 team per category.
Example with 1 region assigned:
The possible participation alternatives are the following:
• 1 region bringing 4 teams
• 2 regions, each bringing 2 teams
• 3 regions, each bringing 1 team
• 1 bringing 2 teams, 4 regions, each bringing 1 team
There is always the limitation of no more than 1 team per region and category, except for the Host
National Federation, which will agree with the EKF on its par icipation figures.
REGISTRATION
All Regions must register online through their National Federation.
The National Federations will receive communication from the EKF HQ with the details for
online registration in due course.
The Registration will take place in the HQ Hotel from 12:00 to 18:00 hrs.
Each delegation must present, during the registration, a signed insurance form.
IMPORTANT:
For all the countries, all the athletes who take part for a Region, will have to show an official
document at the time of registering, in order to prove they are residents in that Region. They will
also have to inform the EKF in case they have participated for a different Region before and they will
also have to show an official document stating they are residents in that Region.

TERMS OF RESPONSIBILITY

I,
the undersigned, as the Chief of Delegation of my country, duly enrolled
to participate in the 14th European Karate Championships for Regions, which will be held in
Kocaeli, Turkey, from the 4th to the 5h of June 2016, with fully knowledge of
the Statutes, the Rules and the Norms of The EUROPEAN KARATE FEDERATION,
pledge myself to faithfully accomplish the regulations of this before mentioned entity, and I take
any and all administrative, civil and criminal responsibilities of whatever happens to our
athletes, coaches and other members of our delegation participating in this championship,
before, during and after the competition, such as physical injuries, personal expenses, or
monetary debts and casual material damages to the hotels,
the venue, means of transportation etc.
Furthermore, I exempt from any legal, civil or criminal responsibilities the organizers of the
Championships, the EKF and the Turkish Karate Federation, its directors, as well as any person,
company, or entity related to the event (sponsors, public and private entities). I authorize the
organizers of the event to use images, photos and the
