• Owned by 16 of the leading banks and building societies in the
UK, Europe and US
• Set up in 1968 as the “Inter-bank Computer Bureau”
• Owns the infrastructure and governs the rules for Direct Debit
and Direct Credit schemes
• Since inception, over 90bn transactions processed
• In 2011, 4.7bn transactions were processed with a total value of
£4.3 trillion
