• Standardized IEC and Maternal Waiting Areas
• Electronic Verbal Autopsy that can be scaled
nationally and captured routinely, includes
electronic training
• Understand community initiation rites
practices that adversely affect maternal
health outcomes, and try to change these
practices using evidence-based, creative and
culturally sensitive approaches

• Community traditional values will be
disrupted
• Evidence on causes of death may negatively
reflect current health programming/spending
and showcase minimal progress in particular
diseases
• Encouraging women to use maternal waiting
areas, despite having to be away from their
families
