America’s largest civil rights organization
committed to achieving equality for

individuals. Founded in 1980, HRC
advocates for the LGBT community while
investing in the election of fair-minded
individuals, educating the public about
related issues, and mobilizing grassroots
actions in various communities.
 Recently, the HRC launched a
Communications War Room for Americans
for Marriage Equality. After the defeat of
both California’s Proposition 8 in 2012 and
the Defense of Marriage Act, new marriage
equality battles are starting to occur in the
courts and at the ballot box. Through
Americans for Marriage Equality, the HRC
hopes to provide national leadership and
support during the continuing push for
marriage equality.

coalition dedicated to advancing marriage
equality and providing up-to-date
information for legal experts, media,
lawmakers, and supporters. It serves as a
communications resource at the national,
state, and local level, while also serving as a
national platform for information sharing.
