2. What have we seen in recent years?
• GM crops- These are genetically modified
crops, the aim is to introduce a new trait to
the plant which does not occur naturally in
the species.
• This can include increasing the shelf life of a
product, new flavours or easier to grow in new
climates.

3. How technology has changed food
manufacture
• Its faster to package using
robotics/automation.
• Better quality/replication of food portions.
• Machines allow us to monitor the process
more efficiently which can increase
cleanliness.
• The more efficient it is, the higher the
productivity.

4. Benefits of advances in technology
• Reduces costs in the long term which can
increase profit margins.
• Reduces waste which also reduces costs and is
more sustainable.
