2. Introduction
• The owner of a private dental office in Sunnyvale,
California, Dr. Gary Sevely trained at the UCLA School of
Dentistry in Los Angeles, where he earned a doctor of
dental surgery and completed a mini-residency in
implant dentistry. Dr. Gary Sevely has gone on to place
more than 10,000 dental restorations and obtain
certification in the practice of CEREC reconstruction.
Driven by CAD/CAM (computer-aided design and
computer-aided manufacturing) software and hardware,
CEREC stands for chairside economical restoration of
esthetic ceramics (or CEramic REConstruction).

3. CEREC Dental Reconstruction
• The CEREC method uses 3D technology to design
onlays, inlays, crowns, and bridges on site and,
subsequently, to complete metal-free dental
restorations during a single patient visit.
CEREC cameras are able to digitally map the inside
of patients’ mouths, eliminating the need for
traditional impressions. After processing this
information though a CD CAD platform, dentists
can cut custom restorations from a block of
biocompatible ceramic using a computer-operated
milling machine. Shortly thereafter, these
restorations are ready for surgical use.
