Hypertension is the medical term for high blood

Blood pressure is the measurement of the
force that is exerted by circulating blood
against the artery walls, and hypertension
describes a high level of pressure .
A blood pressure
measurement is in two parts,
one that represents the
pressure reading when the
heart is beating/contracting,
and another that represents
the pressure in the vessels
when the heart is resting
between beats. The first
number is the ‘systolic’
reading, and the second
is the ‘diastolic’ reading. A
diagnosis of hypertension
is given when the systolic
reading is more than 140
mmHg and/or the diastolic
reading is more than 90
mmHg - this should be
measured on two separate
occasions to diagnose
hypertension.
Hypertension is often
referred to as a ‘silent killer’,
as most people suffering
with high blood pressure
are unaware of the issue.
High blood pressure can
result in several other critical
health issues, including
cardiovascular disease,
heart attack, heart failure,
