57. Large tors along the trail are nice for quite contemplation or a picnic.
58. The area in and around Great Falls is economically depressed. Closing of three textile mills in the 1970’s was an economic death warrant. Population continues to decline and poverty is wide spread.
59. A recreation based economy is hampered by the presence of real and perceived environmental contamination. Clean up is slow to come but it must be done if Dearborn Island is to be considered as a possible State park.
