Poetry Collection
Our library was selected to receive a poetry collection from the Fund for Public Schools in honor of
Caroline Kennedy. The Fund is providing our library with this collection to commemorate Caroline
Kennedy’s years of service to schools. Recommendations will come from The Fund for Public Schools and
NYC Dept. of Education. We have also been invited to recommend titles for this collection. We are truly
honored and excited for this collection and for the positive effect it will have on our library community.
Presenting at the Exploratorium
We were asked to present our work with LibGuides at the annual Library Services Spring Exploratorium.
Our presentation focused on how we use LibGuides to disseminate information to our library community.
The presentation was well received by librarians in the NYC Dept. of Education and librarians from
different library systems in New York. We look forward to using LibGuides next year to continue
integrating multimedia resources, promoting library initiatives, creating additional guides, and providing
research help. Bathgate Library LibGuides link http://tinyurl.com/BECLguides
New Yorkers Read Grant
Our grant application for the New Yorkers Read grant was approved. We received our collection of non-
fiction books and they are already circulating among both our students and staff! Our non-fiction book club
will begin during the next school year in the fall. The next step in the process of the grant is a day of
Professional development on running book clubs and energizing a school wide reading community.
New Visions Campus Librarians Network
The Campus Librarians Network will meet for the last time on May 31st 2012. We will present LiveBinders
that we’ve created for our school library. We also plan to discuss The Shallows: What the Internet is Doing
to Our Brains by Nicolas Carr. Our discussion and work on librarian evaluation in NYC schools using the
Danielson LMS rubric will also continue.
Bronx Health Connect
We are pleased to host the second professional development session of the new Health-Ed curriculum for
NYC DOE schools on June 13th & 18th. We look forward to continuing to work with this new and important
curriculum.
