A sound discussion: 8D Audio review

Over the past two years, there’s been
this thing called 8D Audio on apps
and sites such as YouTube and
Spotify. It has been quite a fad, but
is there anything more to it? Should
audiophiles take it seriously? DJ

The 8D Audio experience requires
good speakers or headphones since
it copies the effect of sound coming
from and going to different
directions. It goes up and down, left
and right, and with echoes and
ambient noises, it can be incredibly
realistic and can draw one in.
DJ Rama. There are, however, several issues with 8D Audio, starting with its name. It may be
nitpicking, but 3D does sound more appropriate. Another problem serious audiophiles have with
8D Audio is its quality, which is far inferior to that of stereo – at the moment.
Today’s gold standard in sound is in 7.1 surround (or wider), which can be experienced in theaters.
But capturing that sound in a music recording studio is next to impossible. But perhaps that’s
what 8D Audio is attempting to do – to make a person feel that they are right smack in the middle
of a performance, as ridiculous as that may sound. DJ Rama.
The novelty rating of 8D Audio, though, is through the roof. It may even prove to be great for
background music when a person is working because it’s hardly at all distracting. But it still has a
long way before realizing its full potential as far as experiences go. DJ Rama
