1. The City by Diane M. Pergola I ride the 7:01 to New York City; each day I look for scenes that are pretty; it’s hard you know to go beyond, the debris and poverty abound; they surround, surround, surround. The sky-lit morning and evening skies play, as the seasons go round; but I capture the pink and blue and gray, as the 7:01 goes to town; they surround, surround, surround. Come and ride with me and share my sights, life is too short and out go the lights; a child’s eyes become a glaze, when the cityscape is all a haze; where is the sun and the blue sky, it must be with the angels way up high; they surround, surround, surround. 2. Tears of the City by Diane M. Pergola The city cries out and nobody hears; so many people, so many tears. The lie on the street, benches and gutters; does anyone know if their hearts still flutter? Some play music or dance or sing; the train is coming, we hear the bells ring. Looking around, seeing the faces; no one speaks, men hold on to their cases. Why do we pass by and give a big sigh? Why don’t we reach out? After all, That’s what it’s about. 3. Sleepless City by Diane M. Pergola What a pity There is no rest To be the best You must be witty What a crime Not to take time To slow or stop To be on top But then you whine The buildings The lights The day And the nights The money and power Do turn so sour If you don’t take the time To dream. 4. Three Times the Love by Diane M. Pergola The love for a man Could be written in sand, But the wind will take it away! The love for a guy, Who gives you the sky, Will give you a fleeting high; The love of a man, Who gives you his hand, Issues a permanent plan; But the love of a man, Who gives you his child, All can be reconciled, As you are his life partner! 5. Spectacle by Diane M. Pergola I saw the doctor a while ago She said I had an aging disease. Why now, I’m too young, this is happening to me. What do I expect, what is there for me to do? Should I wait, worry or cry help? So when I thought about this and I started to see, All the things around me looked differently. Are they the same as they’ve always been; Are the different today or will they be – when? Will I see them again in a different light? Will it be diffused or really bright? What will happen when I can’t see at all? Will I see old images up on a wall? I’m scared some days and others don’t matter, But for now, my eyes are the – Spectacle of absorption.
