The Criticism Of Spinoza
There have been numerous criticisms on Spinoza as well as plentiful interpretations. A common
label of Spinoza's philosophy is pantheism – a doctrine defined by Merriam–Webster as equating
God with the forces and laws of the universe. This is understandable for on the surface, one may
interpret Spinoza's God as an equation with the forces and the laws of the universe inasmuch as God
is Deus sive natura where natura is natura naturans. But a more accurate label had emerged:
panentheism. Panentheism, unlike pantheism, maintains a distinction between the divine and non–
divine and the significance of both. In pantheism, there is no distinction between the divine and the
universe – they are equal – while in panentheism, the divine and the universe ... Show more content

The sub–categories for these then will be as follows.
For theism, there are numerous sub–categories: polytheism, pantheism, monotheism, and finite
godism . There are possibly more than these but these are the most dominant. In all these beliefs,
there is the existence of a God. It may refer to the existence of only one God (like that of
monotheism and pantheism) or many (like that of polytheism and finite godism) – simply put, there
is a common denominator in these beliefs and this is the existence of God.
For atheism, there are still sub–categories but these sub–categories may be better referred to as
classifications or degrees. In a lecture delivered by Alfredo P. Co before the Graduate School of the
Divine Word Seminary, three classifications of atheism were given: philosophical, moral, and
philosophical–moral.
In the above excerpt, one may understand a philosophical atheist as a partial atheist wherein the
lifestyle and the philosophical orientation are not in harmony. The atheism is only one side of the
coin, and not the whole coin

Parmenides and Heraclitus
This paper looks at two Greek philosophers, Heraclitus, and Parmenides. It examines their different
theories as to how the universe was created, understanding of the universe, 'way of truth, ' 'way of
opinion ' and the third way. The author explains that Parmenides, who came after Heraclitus,
addressed part of his writings as a refutation of Heraclitus? views. He objected both to Heraclitus?
view of the universe and how Heraclitus felt people could gain knowledge of it.
From the Paper:
"While we have discussed what both men see as the make up of the material world, it is equally
important to take up how each man felt he could know what he knows about the universe.

But between the Sophists and Socrates there was a fundamental difference. The Sophists showed
that equally good arguments could be advanced on either side of any issue; they were skeptics who
doubted that there could be any certain or reliable knowledge. On the other hand, Socrates was
committed to the pursuit of truth and considered it his mission to seek out certain knowledge. Unlike
philosophers before them, Sophists claimed to be wise enough to teach whatever you might want to
know as long as you were willing to pay them the required fees. Sophists traveled more than
ordinary Greeks and they learned that there is a real variety of correct ways to do things depending
upon ones perspective. They believed there was no universally appropriate way of doing anything.
Therefore there can be no absolutes of any kind. Appearances are reality, at least the only reality any
of us can know. They were extremely doubtful about the possibility of discovering anything that was
really true. Instead, they taught their followers how to get along in the world, without certain
knowledge. They taught their followers how to win disputes, how to speak well and convincingly
how to succeed. Their underlying theory developed from two remarks of two of the leading
Sophists. Protagoras, perhaps the greatest of the Sophists, said Main is the measure of all things and
Gorgias, another great sophist, proclaimed, Nothing exists, and if it did, no one could know it, and if

Atheism
In Marxism, human is doing God role, and they made religion for worshipping themselves. Human's
role in history is to make the society into aesthetic society and change them.
"Religion is the sign of the oppressed creature, the sentiment of a heartless world, as it is the spirit of
spiritless conditions."
Atheism
As Marxism is based on the Atheism, and wanted to establish communism society, they wanted
religion out of society, because religions tend to make people weak, and also doubt the authority.

In some countries, there are some people who believes in that all the objects have the soul inside,
and they are god. For example, in seatribe, the village I went believed in pantheism, that they
believe that there is water god, tree god, and god is everywhere. They also worshipped them.

The theological view of Postmodernism is Atheism
Both of these says that there is no exact right, reality. So when they make statement about
theological belief, they are going against the idea of no God.
Deconstruction is readers think of their own meaning when they read the text, and believe their own
thoughts. So when they apply this to Bible, they interpret the word of God in their own thought, and
can create the cult out of it.
As Postmodernism claims no universal truth, it is some what similar to religious pluralism, because
religious pluralism also claims that no one religion is divinely truth. So Postmodernism just do not
believe in religion instead of denying. They feel appealed or not.
Nietzsche proclaims that society is going toward atheism, and not believing in religion. Also he
claims that religions hold people together, and will cause diversity when there is no

The Characteristics Of Christianity And Media Analysis :...
Media Analysis: AVATAR It all began in the year of 2154 when a crippled ex–marine named Jake
Sully "saved the world". He takes part in a program invented by scientists which put him on an alien
moon called Pandora. Jake is introduced to an Avatar body which is the combination of ½ human
body and ½ alien body basically controlled by the scientists who created it. After watching Avatar,
for the first time, I realized that this film had different worldviews mixed together. Somewhat
confusing to me. I believe there is some Christianity along with Pantheism. Though it was more
difficult for me to see the Christianity throughout this movie, Pantheism stood out. What raises
questions to me is the Na'vi's creator, their relationship to each other and a spiritual relationship
much higher than them. I view Christianity in this movie as Jake Sully's mission to connect with the
Na'vi as "one of them." Jake connects his consciousness into the body of an Avatar. In the beginning
of contact with the Na'vi tribe they do not take lightly to him because he spoke English. This was a
red flag for them but to stay, Jake had to learn how to win the Na'vi tribes trust. To do this, Jake
needed to learn their ways of living. Learn to fight the beast, learn how to hunt with bow and arrows
and to do that Jake spent months learning Na'vi traditions and learning to "fit in." This is where I
make the correlation between Jakes encounter to Christianity. God sent Jesus to Earth and earn the

An Analysis of 'A Forest Hymn' by William Cullen Bryant
A Forest Hymn by William Cullen Bryant The poem A Forest Hymn talk of the origin of all the
nature that surrounds humanity and the activities of these naturally found objects. It gives an
indication that the source of all the nature that we see is God and He is the one who controls their
actions in all aspects and as to that, the poet implores the entire humanity to humble itself before the
creator and controller of nature and worship him, not necessarily in houses or in crowds as both of
these are weak and cannot stand before the might of the creator, but in natural settings. This poem is
therefore widely a statement of pantheism, which is a position that god and nature are the same.
According to Matt Slick, (2011) the word pantheism is derived from Greek words "Pan" meaning all
and the other section from "theos" meaning God. This then implies that all nature found in the
universe, from the stars, mountains, planets, wind, rain, storms are all part of what God is hence
pantheists contest that God is all and all nature is part of God. This should not be confused with the
Christian perspective that God created all nature but these are inferior to him and are in no way
equal to him. This poem is generally a pantheism statement exemplified since it equates nature to be
having the same powers as God. The poet indeed starts off by stating clearly that "The groves were
God's first temples. Ere man learned" an indication that if man is inferior to God, yet God used

Ethical Dilemma Of Pornography
Benchmark – Ethical Dilemmas
Lindsay Rohland (2015) defined an ethical dilemma as, "a complicated situation in which one must
make a difficult choice or decision in the face of conflicting morals." The choice between right or
wrong may seem a challenging but a person's morals are typically influenced by religion.
Christianity has answers for every dilemma a person could be facing. The ethical dilemma of
pornography will be analyzed by the Christian worldview, and compared to the perspective of the
pantheistic worldview.
Ethical Dilemma
Pornography is an ethical dilemma that affects men and women from all walks of life. In TJ's case,
porn is photographs or videos that depict of erotic subjects with the intension to titillate the audience
(Pornography, 2017). Making an ethical decision is difficult for TJ because of his options: continue
to practice his freedom rights to privately watch and giving up the pleasure he receives from
watching porn. Continuing will put himself at risk but by quitting he will no longer be supporting
the pornography business. If TJ is a Christian, he could look to the core beliefs to help him decide.
Core Beliefs
The Christian worldview is enforced by the Bible, which does not mention pornography because
videography had yet to exist. However, the Bible does mention various forms of sin, prohibited sex
and acts of the mind that would cause a person's sexual immortality. Galatians 5 (NIV) states, "19
The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery... 21orgies, and the
like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God."
Based off scripture, humanity should not partake activities such as fornication, incest, adultery,
orgies, and rape; all popular pornographic storylines. Watching pornographic videos could cause lust
and sinful thoughts in. Lust is secular and will separate a person from God (1 John 2:26, NIV).
Knowing this may influence a Christian to not indulge on pornography and actively seek counsel.
Resolution
A specific problem may not be clearly stated word for word in the Bible, but Jesus is and always
will be the answer, according to the Christian worldview. The ethical dilemma of pornography is
caused

Baruch Spinoza Research Paper
Baruch Spinoza was a Portuguese enlightenment scientist whose posthumous paper entitled "Ethics"
is considered to be one of the greatest philosophical papers. From a young age he questioned the
authority and legitimacy of the Jewish faith in which he was brought up. Thought an incredibly
gifted student, once his elder brother died, he dropped all formal education and took up the family
importing business. Three years later, in 1653, Spinoza began studying Latin with Francis van den
Enden, a notorious free thinker, who gave Spinoza the basis to modern philosophy. Enden's
relationship with Spinoza led to him landing a job teaching at Enden's school.
Labeled as a heretic by the Jewish people for proclaiming that God has a body and nothing in ...

The understanding and study of Natural Science, Psychology, and Philosophy are the only ways to
understand God. Instead of asking for things from God, humans should understand what God wants.
To do this, we turn to nature, because God is Nature and Nature is God. There are two ways to go
about understanding nature as Spinoza puts it. Believers can look through their limited perspective,
or from a global perspective. As humans, we will always be torn between the two, what we can see
with our eyes, and the universal perspective.
What is "bad" is what is bad for one person from their perspective, and what is good is only good to
them. Spinoza's ideas of ethics transcend such selfish definitions. Spinoza believed in a life free
from sorrow, guilt, pity or shame. One's happiness lies within aligning their will with that of the
universe. The universe has it's own ideas, and it is one's responsibility to discover what they are, and
accept them.
Thought Spinoza's ideas are beautiful and well crafted, all but a few were not convinced and
Spinoza remains one of the least well known philosophers. Abandoning traditional religion for a
pantheist one was a task too daunting for the average individual, and Spinoza's works vanished into
obscurity and today serve as a warning for what can happen when philosophy goes

The Pros And Cons Of Pantheism
I see that my "stoner" tendencies/usage of cannabis has been recognized. Why are you surprised?

one of the ultimate sources of wisdom and knowledge. JK
I don't believe that by holding the conviction of an infinite looping universe will put as much strain
and questions to the said "already existing conceptions" as we think it would. I already spoke about
how equally absurd pantheism and "monotheism" is in the "eyes of science". Yes, we can say that
monotheism, on one hand, satisfies the need for an (As Aquinas would say it); uncaused mover,
whereas for pantheism, they do not propose the idea that there exists a god/God, well at least in the
traditional sense (ie a divine entity) – which also from a completely scientific standpoint (the God
hypothesis) is not a falsifiable hypothesis. Science claims that if God were to exist, there are certain
pre–requisites that ought to be met to show that he exists, unfortunately, God as we both know him
to be, does not fit the criteria of an "existing god", well at least according to a purely naturalistic–
biased scientific view. So each side ultimately ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Polytheism: Belief In The Existence Of God
Polytheism is the worship or belief of more than one god. Henotheism is the belief that there are a
number of gods but worship only one of them. Monotheism is the belief in only one divine being as
God.
Theism is to believe in the existence of the supremely good being. The supreme being is
omnipotent, omniscient, eternal, and self–existent. Atheism is to believe that the theistic God does
not exist. An atheist rejects any form of a divine being or beings. Agnosticism is someone who has
considered the theistic idea of God but believe neither in the existence or nonexistence of the theistic
God.
I do not think any different from the theism meaning of God. I would define God as omnipotent and
eternal being. God is omnipotent because he has

Morality In Humanities: Religious Foundations Of Polytheism
Morality in Humanities Transition can be defined as a movement, progression, or advancement from
one structure, phase, or mode to another. As far as religion is concerned, religious belief in its most
idyllic form can be regarded as an influential force for the creation of ecological transformations to
subsequent generations that share parallel spiritual viewpoint and values. Religious Foundations of
Polytheism, Monotheism, Henotheism and Pantheism Polytheism rests its belief in a multiplicity of
gods distinguishing every divine being by particular functions. The gods are, for the most part,
identical with function in India's Vedic religion such as Indra (the storm god), Yama (the god of
death) etc. In polytheism, the worshippers do not have equal affection or fondness for every holy
being. In all probability, polytheism is a progression from an earlier poly–demonism and is
associated with animism, ancestor worship, and totemism as well. These mentioned forms of belief
are supported by human inclination to worship all matter on earth and in heaven, all that is
extraordinary or valuable, weird and wonderful or hideous ("polytheism," 2012). Monotheism
cropped up against polytheism. It is a belief in one individual god. When it comes down to the
monotheistic religion, it stresses on the existence and genuineness of one personal god that brings
together the universe. Judaism, Christianity, Islam and Zoroastrianism are the most famous religions
that promote oneness

Monotheism And Pantheism Similarities
The concept of ultimate reality is one that has been invented and reinvented since the beginning of
human kind. As the times have changed, so have the concepts, creating differentiating gaps between
the ideas. One of the first concepts recorded is known as polytheism, which is similar to animism.
When science was not popular and individuals barely had shelter from natural "evils", such as
storms, they were inclined to believe everything had god–like characteristics. For instance, they
believed gods were in charge of things like the harvest, fertility, and weather. Since most lived the
lives of farmers, they worshipped nature, even making sacrifices to pay their respects in order to
prevent tragedies. Moving forward, a similar concept would be the ... Show more content on

Furthermore, a related reality known as pantheism shares a similar perception with monism
regarding the topic of one God. Pantheists unify the idea of God with everything else, they believe
God is not a separate entity. Completely opposing polytheism, monotheism is the belief of a single,
all–powerful God. This reality differs from monism and pantheism because it states that everything
is independent of God. All of these realities, though very different, have commonalities: they all
believe in something bigger than just us.
While there is no way of knowing which reality is the truth, there are two that are more widespread
throughout the world. Polytheism and monotheism are the prevalent philosophies in the modern
world. Religions such as Hinduism, Buddhism, and tribal religions are representative of polytheism.
Meanwhile, the most popular religions in the west like Christianity, Judaism, and Islam make up the
monotheistic religions. As a Catholic, my beliefs are pulled towards the direction of monotheistic
beliefs. It is easier for me to imagine that there is one independent God looking after us and once our

God Is Good And Evil
The naturally good world has been corrupted by evil, and a God is going to restore it to its nature.
Apparently, the restoration is indeed obvious. It is shown through the everlasting teachings of
kindness, harmony, and peace. Men are smart, but they are selfish and ignorant, making them unable
to invent such moral teachings. Hence, those teachings, or Laws, are derived from an another
source–God–who is perfectly selfless. Indeed, Christianity is sensical, for there are evidences that
God is making changes in humanity. If there is a God, then who God is, by the way? Those who
believe in God have always questioned the Supreme Being in whom they believed day by day.
Eventually, they start to make the answers to their curiosity. The first ... Show more content on

Similarly, all of the innocent Jews would be executed cruelly as Hitler treated them as if they had
been devils. Or in a more Biblical context, had everyone agreed with the Romans' perspectives that
Christians were evil, Christianity would not have existed. To this point, the Pantheists could argue
that Vengeance should not be done because there is a God, who is beyond Good and Evil, tells
human not to do so. If God was beyond Good and Evil, how would he decide which actions are
good and bad. As he was neither Good nor Evil, he could judge any action was moral or immoral.
For instance, he could say forgiveness is Good. At the same time, he could also declare Killing is
good, for goodness and badness did not simply exist in him. If God was this way, no one would
choose to follow him. In contrast, a Good God creates a Moral Law, which commands people to
forgive and not to kill. Universally, everyone knows that killing is bad, and forgiveness is good, but
why it is so? Killing is bad because such action goes against the direction of the Moral Law.
Conversely, Forgiveness is good because it abides by the Moral Law. A Good God makes the Moral
Law, and solely the Good God leads men to a better world. A Pantheists' God only leaves humanity
as it has been. Another man–made answer to the question is Dualism, which states that the universe
is a battlefield of two Deities–Good and Bad(Lewis, 1952, p. 42). However, if there were actually

America Becoming a Godless Culture
Many people believe the United States is becoming a "Godless" culture. The argument is that we are

view of most Fundamentalist Christians and right wing believers. I vehemently disagree with this
argument. I say this because there are many ways to practice religion. We have many ethnic
populations in our country with many different religions. Because of this, there are many beliefs that

HIV is a disease to rid our population of the undesirables. It is our sinful ways and God is striking

branded after the world ends with the fiery Armageddon. The fundamental Christians do not believe
there is any other way to practice faith and religion other than Christianity. I do not believe our
country is becoming a godless culture. One of the important aspects that are missing from the
godless culture theory is the fact that we have in our country many different religions that are being
practiced everyday. People who migrate to this country bring their own religion. Yes, they want to
assimilate into our country, but they shouldn't have to become clones of the "white establishment."
Whether we migrate here or not many people practice Buddhism, spirituality, polytheism (more than
one God) or pantheism (God is in everything including nature). I believe people who condemn us to
be a godless culture are actually afraid of differences. Differences of color, clothing, style, music,
food and faith. I believe being different and having many cultures in our country makes us stronger
in tolerance and acceptance of all human beings. Isn't this what God preaches in the bible. It is quite
interesting to note that the divorce rate is higher in the bible belt states, southern states, than other
states, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Christian Classical Theism
Every person in the world, from generations past to future civilizations, sees the world through a
lens that can be defined as a worldview. Every lens is different because every person is unique.
Many of these worldviews share similar overarching themes leading into a category we have titled
religion; however, worldview is not simply composed of a religious affiliation. Worldview
encompasses the entirety of how an individual views the world and all that is that within it. This
view often becomes dictated by their religious beliefs and personal interaction with society and
culture.

As a child, I attended a church every Sunday that had "Sola Scriptura" inscribed on the pulpit. Every
sermon that the pastor preached was based entirely on scripture and I stand by this view of the
Christian religion. From this standard, my belief includes the necessity to personally ask Jesus into
your life and ask for His saving grace and mercy, the understanding that the only source of salvation
is through Jesus's sacrifice, requirement of sharing the Gospel, and a rapture of all Christians before
the Great Tribulation.
EASTERN PANTHEISTIC MONISM
Under an Eastern Pantheistic Monism worldview, all is God and all is One. There is an overarching
understanding that the soul of every human being belongs to the Soul of the Cosmos and after this
understanding is achieved each soul is joined to the One (Soul of the Cosmos). Pantheism and

A worldview is the framework or beliefs by which a person views the world around him or her. To
explain further, a worldview is how a person basis their beliefs, actions or motives, which are based
on life experiences. Even through life experiences or worldviews can develop from a variety of
sources. For example, a person may live in a home with abusive parents, making for an unhappy
environment. This same person may have a great mentor who that person looks up to. Even though
this person lives in an unhappy environment, that person may receive their worldview from the

In looking at these five questions, we will look at them through a biblical/Christian worldview.
The first is the question of origin. Where did we come from or how did we begin? Genesis:1 tells us
that all things were created by God. John 1:3 tells us that everything came to being through God and
that nothing else can be without being created by God. Through a biblical worldview, you must
believe that God is the creator of all and that without God there is nothing.
The question of identity. In looking at the question of identity we must look at what we believe it is
to be a human and what is our status in this world. Jeremiah 1:5 tells us that even before we were
born, God knew us. Ephesians 2:10 tells s that we are created in Christ Jesus for good works.
Scripture tells us that God created us and has a plan for each and everyone. We are created to fulfill
Gods will and to walk in the way that his word tells us to.
The question of meaning/purpose. This question begs why are we even here. Ecclesiastes 12: 13–14
tells us that our whole duty is to fear God and keep his commandments. Luke 12:15 tells us that we

Essay on Critique of Aquinas's Cosmological Argument
Critique of Aquinas's Cosmological Argument
Aquinas's 3rd way suggests that the world consists of contingent beings. As all contingent beings
have a cause, namely another contingent being, there must have been a time when nothing existed,
(unless contingent beings exist as a brute fact). Therefore, contingent beings could not have come
into existence unless there is a necessary being which is non– contingent that caused them. Aquinas
named this being God. The problem with Aquinas's view is that as physicians have suggested matter
is eternal and therefore a necessary being is not required to cause contingent beings.
The basis of Aquinas's argument depends on the fact that contingent beings ... Show more content

universe but the universe as a whole is essentially brute fact and non–contingent as it is all matter.
Thus as Peter Cole suggests in Philosophy Of Religion(22), the cause of the universe is not about
the metaphysical necessary being called God, it is about the nature of matter. In continuance to this,
the matter itself could be defined as the necessary being as it is eternal and therefore could not have
failed to exist. Thus "Matter would be a necessary being and would satisfy the arguments definition
of God" ( Stephen Evans in Philosophy Of Religion(55). This would undermine Aquinas as he stated
that the necessary being was separate from the universe. In essence, this view of matter as eternal
means that if God exists, then far from being separate from the universe, God is the universe.
Therefore, God would be defined as the matter of the universe which thus means that pantheism
applies which undermines Aquinas. So if a belief in God is needed, then God is the universe, and not
God was the cause of the universe as

The Secret is not just a movie and a regular book. Unlike most self–help books and motivational
focus to equip you to achieve success or happiness, the book offers a fairly complete frame of mind
about everything. You can find the concept of life, money, relationships, and health, but also the
concepts of which God is, man, and the purpose of human life in the world. So "The Secret" book
strongly emphasizes the importance of the mind focused on your desire, the desire of the

Metaphysics And The Philosophical Branch Of Reality
In the field of philosophy there are many branches which have their own individual philosophy of
their own. But, within those branches there are smaller branches. The branches that I am referring to
are ; Epistemology, Metaphysics, Philosophy of Science, Philosophy of Meaning, the problem of
free will, and social and political philosophy. From all these topics, Metaphysics is the most
interesting. Metaphysics is the study of reality. Metaphysic focuses on the question, what explains
the source of reality? In the philosophical branch of Metaphysics come smaller branches. Four of
these smaller branches are; Dualism, Materialism also known as Physicalism, and Pantheism.
Materialism is, "the view that matter is the ultimate constituent of reality" (Velasquez 148). In other
words Materialism says that only material things are real. Nothing else exists but matter; there is no
spiritual aspect in life. The only thing that matters are things we can see and feel. Charvaka
philosophers that believed in Materialism argued that, "Because all we know is what we can
perceive with our senses, and because whatever we perceive with our senses is physical and
material, it follows that all we can know is the material of physical world around us" (Velasquez
149). They say that if we cannot see it or we do not know that it exists then it must be wrong. If we
cannot physically use our senses to acknowledge it then things like souls, gods, or other spiritual
"realities "can't be real.

Our Own World Is Portrayed By William Wordsworth
Our own world is viewed through our own experiences and shaped through human emotion.
Humans can experience and see the world itself can appear to shapes the emotion as well. It is
impossible to say which precedes which; does the external world that is clearly and vividly see,
show the tangible object that mirrors the mood? It is poetry that has an inherent tendency towards
pan–psychism; the feeling that soul and nature pervades all which is close. M.H. Abrams saw for the
Romantics that same reverent apprehension of nature 's grandeur: "constituted a systematic theodicy
of the landscape" (Natural Supernaturalism, 98). The full grasp of this feeling is the idea of
pantheism. This pantheistic tendency became explicit among the Romantics, ... Show more content

These dissenters questioned religion–saw religion with its human tainted touch and the inadequacies
that focused more on the materialistic than spiritual–as what religion is supposed to achieve.
William Wordsworth is one of the Romantic Era writers that spoke of nature with zeal and reverence
with a religious tone. By its very nature, poetic imagery links human thoughts and emotions
intimately with the external world. The pathetic fallacy is used here by Wordsworth. It appears that
nature is a blank page that takes on the paints of the human feeling. William Wordsworth takes
nature as a soul invading figure so far transcendentally as to make it his religion pointing to the idea
of a philosophical turn suggesting an atheistic and also a pantheistic world view. Wordsworth writes
in his poem 'Composed a few miles above Tintern Abbey":
"Nature never did betray
The heart that loved her; 'tis her privilege,
Through all the years of this our life, to lead
From joy to joy: for she can so inform
The mind that is within us, so impress
With quietness and beauty, and so feed
With lofty thoughts." ' (122–128)
Wordsworth felt that "poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings" (172) in his "Preface
to Lyrical Ballads" stated that he felt an individual could explore and experience the intense emotion
that poetry offers.. Wordsworth saw the grand lay of nature is evident from his early years. In

The Nature Of God And Which Lense One Helps View Religion...
There are many different views about the nature of god and which lense one chooses to view
religion or spirituality. The nine that will be discussed are animism, polytheism, henotheism,
pantheism, religious dualism, deism, theism, atheism, and agnosticism. While some of these have
overlapping principles, they are each unique viewpoints as of the nature of god and are held by
different religions throughout the world today and in history. One of the first forms of religions was
animism, or the view that there are spirits in natural objects that account for its characteristics and
behavior. Since science did not exist the way it does now, people used animism as a way to explain
what they were seeing around them not only from a religious ... Show more content on

This is similar to animism because they believed in the power of each natural occurrence, however,
in animism the beliefs were independent of the idea of a god controlling the natural occurrence.
Polytheism arose after animism and reduced the number of gods who controlled not only events in
nature but also in government and politics. These gods were then politicized and helped to create
complex societies and governments which allowed for differences in classes and rankings within
society. Polytheism is most commonly known from Hinduism or greek mythology, which has many
deities all in control of different aspects of life. Henotheism is a type of polytheism that affirms the
existence of multiple gods but worships only one. This form of religion is seen in one path of
Hinduism referred to as bhakti yoga. In this religion, for example, they don 't deny the existence of
other gods, but believe that Krishna is the most important god that should be worshiped above all
others. Greek religions which worshiped Zeus primarily as their god is another example of
Henotheism. Taking an entirely different approach then Animism, polytheism, and henotheism is
Pantheism. This is the belief that god and the cosmos are one, and God is impersonal
(transpersonal). This belief states that every person, plant, animal, living and non–living thing, is
part of the one god. The impersonal or transpersonal aspect of this is what

Reflection Paper On Worldview
An individual's world view is described as, "A pair of glasses though which we look at the world
around us." (Pacific Press Publishing Association, 1998, p.7). Our world view is our perspective of
the world around us, which is where we get the understanding of how to live in it. Our purpose in
life comes in our worldview. Our worldviews are the foundation of our lives, it determines what we
value and what we live for. One's worldview does not have to be in reality as long as it is their
reality. Someone's world view is their personal truth. For example, if someone believes that the
world is flat, that is their truth, making it their worldview. In that case that is also literally how they

We were not created by a divine being, we are a product of evolution. Truth comes from science,
things we understand and that can be explained. One of the most common groups in naturalism is
the atheist. The atheist has determined that there is no God, the Bible is all false. Another group is
the agnostics, they do not know if there is a God. There is no sufficient evidence to prove that he
does or does not exist. The agnostic is open to both possibilities. I personally cannot imagine living
a life in such doubt. They might consider themselves in the middle but God will not accept someone
into the Kingdom unless they have personally accepted him. The Secularist is opposed to religion
interfering with the state. They believe that the state has shown favoritism to religion. Secularist do
not want religion to interfere with the affairs of the state and they do not want the state to interfere
with religion. This group is very involved in politics, all of this mainly takes place in the United
Kingdom. Not all secularist is naturalist but the overwhelming majority of them are. Naturalism
brings up more questions than it provides answers. Where do the naturalist get their morals? For
them morals are created by you, it seems like there is less accountability. If a theist does something

Avatar is a movie directed by James Cameron, released in December 18th 2009. The movie begins
with the introduction of ex–marine officer Jake Sully who is confined to a wheel chair and is

that is sold at $20 billion a kilogram. The natives of Pandora are called the Na'vi, who resides in the

the source that is connected to their biological neural network which they need to survive. The
ground below the Hometree holds the largest deposit of unobtanium. To facilitate their work, the
humans created avatars which are artificial bodies that resemble the Na'vi and transfer their
consciousness into those bodies to interact and infiltrate the Hometree. Jake in his avatar form meets
Neytiri, who introduces him to the other natives. Jake discovers that the Na'vi are connected with
the Hometree and the destruction of the tree will endanger them. Jake is put to the task of stopping
the humans from destroying the tree and helps the Na'vi defend the tree. After a big battle for justice

Compare And Contrast Worldviews
Comparing Worldviews
Worldviews vary from person to person and faith to faith, resulting in everyone seeing the world
through their own assumptions and beliefs. Out of the many worldviews discussed in the text,
Integrative Approaches to Psychology and Christianity, and in class three stood out to me for
comparison. These three worldviews consist of Naturalism, Pantheism and Polytheism. Worldviews,
although not always correct, are how people see the world and reflect on our expectations about life.
Differences can be seen in beliefs such as if they believe in a spiritual world, a material world, or
both. Worldview's purposes are to explain the purpose of man and the world. All three worldviews
attribute the problems in the world to different aspects based on their beliefs and have diverse
notions of how to resolve the world problems. Although a few similarities can be found among these
world views, there are multiple differences found.
When attempting to explain the purpose of man and the world, all three worldviews use different
approaches. Naturalism believes man is here by chance, that humanity just happened and one day it
will phase off the earth. Polytheism takes the approach of men and creatures on earth being the
creation of gods and were put here to entertain the gods and spirits. Pantheism believes only in a
spiritual world, so everything outside the spiritual world is an illusion. Naturalism and Pantheism
are on complete opposite ends of the spectrum

Walt Whitman's Relation to the Romantic Period Essay
The time of Romanticism brought upon many trends extending from the idea of individualism as a
rebellious separation from the classics, an idealistic outlook and finally to a strong religious base.
Most of the writers of the Romantic period followed Pantheism "God is everything and everything is
God ... the world is either identical with God or in some way a self–expression of his nature" (Owen
1971: 74). The idea of Pantheism was that everything in the world worked in unity. In some of the
works of the Romantic period the expression of nature and humans are not separate entities, but one
in the same. Even though in reality it did not work this way Pantheism was the ideal of most these
writers and idealism in itself was yet another trend ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the poem he veers from any pattern and words like, "abject louse," and "maggot," followed his
reputation of having an angry diction. His work is completely impulsive which was seen as exotic
and passionate, which certainly reflected the period. In his poetry he was said by Norton to stay
away from, "making any sense or reason," (Saintsbury, 50).
Walt Whitman also had a strong emphasis on religion as well. In most of his poetry, including
`Faces' Whitman tended to speak of sprits and in this particular poem; the Lord and the soul.
The Lord advances, and yet advances;
Always the shadow in front–always the reach'd hand bringing up the laggards.
(Whitman, `Faces')
The soul is also mentioned earlier in the poem as beautiful, despite the faces he sees which are at
most "despising," (Whitman, `Faces'). Whitman was apparently very much intrigued by the soul, he
tried to find a "path," to the soul even though he admits that he was not sure what the soul was.
However, he was determined he would find a "path between reality and their souls," (Allen, 192).
Like most of the pantheists of his time he wanted to connect many things, reality and the soul; even
individualism and the nation. Whitman quoted, "The empowerments of each element of the country
individually but at the same time their merger in the collective empowerment of the nation

Pantheism: A Personal Analysis
Religion – each person follows one, but it is not necessarily always the same one. Myself, I am a
pantheist which means I believe in the science behind everything. However, my friend, Breanna, is
agnostic. This means that she "basically believes there is no scientific proof of a higher power."
Since her religion is not the same as the main religion people normally follow around here, she is
scorned by many people. She has problems maintaining friendships and relationships whenever
people find out she is agnostic and her family members refuse to accept it whenever they find out.
First of all, Breanna encounters different reactions, just like me, every time she tells people that she
follows the agnostic belief. Usually, people who are of the Christian religion are the ones to look
down on us. They find out that we do not believe in their God and that usually turns into a quick
"death stare" and a firm "you're going to Hell." It does not bother Breanna much whenever she is
treated that way though. She does not believe that religion is or should be important to anyone, so
her reply to the statement above regarding Hell, is "probably." After saying that, she carries on with
her day as if it was just another conversation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A Christian Worldview
Every person on earth has a mental reality, which we call worldview. It is what a person finds in
his/her world and it could be true or not. In other words' it is putting together of all the things we
believe whether they are or not. It could be through education, observation, experience or just
because those we trust also believe. Every decision we make is based on the worldview we have
developed.
A worldview, weather religious or non–religious, has personal insight about reality and meaning,
often termed a "life understanding". We all have worldviews which is our own discernment which
develops because we have sought some understanding of our own significance. The overall
perspective from which one sees and interprets the world could be collection beliefs about life and
the universe held by an individual or group. Human nature:

Making Sense Of Your World: A Biblical Worldview
The issue of evil in the world raises questions with which everyone wrestles. Pain and suffering
come into everyone's life to some degree or another. Trying to find meaning and purpose in the
midst of suffering, whether our own or someone else's, is difficult regardless of what worldview one
holds. How individuals and societies deal with this issue will have important implications for those
individuals as well as to the whole of society.
The presence of evil in the world became horrifyingly apparent again on December 14, 2012 in

They may even come to the conclusion that if there is a God, he cannot be good.
In contrast to Atheism and Agnosticism, Pantheism does not acknowledge the physical world as
reality, but accepts only the spiritual world as real. According to Phillips et al. (2008), there are two
approaches that Pantheism can take to resolve the issue of evil in the world. The first is to "suggest
that any evil that occurs in the natural world [is] illusory. [The] second... explanation for evil and
suffering is karma" (pp. 152–153).
Since Pantheism sees the physical world as an illusion, evil is illusionary as well. We are all
connected to the universe, or to the One. We are not physical beings, but spiritual beings who need
to detach from the physical world (from selfish living) in order to attain enlightenment. Failure to do
so will result in the soul's reincarnation until its journey is complete. Since evil is illusionary, a
Pantheists would probably respond to the tragedy that took place at Sandy Hook Elementary School
by detaching from the victims and letting them go. After all, to hang on to them would be clinging to
the physical. The victims' souls are on a spiritual journey back to the One, as is everyone. According
to Philips et al. (2008), for the Pantheist, detachment from the illusion of the physical world and

Kant believes that evertythnging is the nouminal world, and the we are perscieveing theis nouminal
wourld though our lens which we call reason (Or concepts). We then use our senses to interpret what
we are percieveing. He came to this conclusion when he was trying ot find a synthesis between
hume and Descares. Descartes was wrong in his thinking, or at least is is evident that there is
something missing from his rationalist thinking. Kant used to believe this but after reading the
empirist remarks of Hume he began to see the need for use of our sensory perceptions within reality
as well. So the synthesis is that all knowledge comes from the combination of conepts and intuitions
(reason and sensory perceptions), without reason we would have no lens to perceive what the
nominal wourld is telling us, and without senses we would have no way of understanding what our
reason is telling us. But even with this we need to remember that the best that we can do is perceive
what is, but that does not determine what something is, the nominal would exists beyond our
perception and is still a mystery. This leaves open room for metaphysics, because God, and our souls
can still exist beyond our plain of sensory, or reason. 2. both Kierkegaard and Marx disagreed with

From Monotheism To Pantheism Analysis
In "From Monotheism to Pantheism: Liberation from Patriarchy in Alice Walker's The Color

views have on character development. It was Celie's experience with religion that caused her to
allow herself to be abused most of her life.
Her entire life Celie had been taught that a man was an impenetrable force. Near the beginning of
her book when Celie is describing her abusive step father she states that she "couldn't be mad at my
daddy, cause he my daddy. Bible say, honor father and mother no matter what" (Walker 43) Being
raised in a catholic home reinforced the harmful message, leaving her at the will of any man in her
life. As Hankinson states "It is Celie's interpretation of the biblical God and his commands that
breeds her compliance to these abusive patriarchal conditions." (325) The "god's command" in this
case being that a woman must be subordinate to a man.

most important questions every Christian should ask. Just because someone believes in God, their
perspective of the world around them may be no different than someone who does not believe in
God. The key a Biblical worldview is to study the Holy Bible. A Biblical worldview is a system of
personal beliefs and values based solely on the Word of God. The Bible serves as a plumb line of
truth through which God reveals His perspective regarding the beginning of the universe, identity,
ethics and the future. Three worldviews that consistently contrast with the Biblical worldview are
Naturalism, Nihilism, and Pantheism.
Ethan Pope describes characteristics of a Biblical worldview in his article, "Developing a Biblical
Worldview." He suggests that there are two basic worldviews: one that centers on God and one that
centers on nature and man. A Biblical worldview centers on God as Creator of the universe and
everything in it. Others center on the belief there is no God; therefore, the universe formed itself and
man is his own god. This view is called Naturalism or Atheism. (Pope, 2002).
Additional key characteristics of a Biblical worldview according to Pope are listed below:
 The Bible is God's inspired Word.
 Man is born with a sinful nature and sin is his greatest problem.
 God provided a solution through Jesus Christ, the one and only Savior from sin.
 Miracles can be

Woodmont Avenue, Suite 450, Bethesda, Maryland 20814 Toward the end of the nineteenth century,
the German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche wrote a fictional account of a madman who went about
the town proclaiming that "God is dead." Nietzsche's story is illustrative of a wave of atheism that
spread through the intellectual circles of Europe in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries,
but that never caught on in society at large. The idea of the divine demise, however, did not die: A
movement by theologians resurrected Nietzsche's thesis in the 1960s, amidst the other forms of
radical thinking that characterized that decade. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
MONOTHEISM'S THREE–PRONGED PROBLEM Monotheism also contains another essential
problem––one with implications for the future. The Western God of the Jewish–Christian–Islamic
tradition illustrates the core difficulty in monotheism, a philosophical conundrum that has been
called the theodicy problem. It is formulated as a trilemma and can best be illustrated this way:
Among the following three statements, it is logically possible to reconcile any two of them, but the
agreement of two implies that the third is false. The three statements are: 1. God is omnipotent. 2.
God loves us. 3. Evil exists. In the first instance, if God can do anything (create the universe, for
example), and if the universe contains natural and moral evils (hurricanes and Hitlers, for example),
then it would seem that God lacks compassion for the victims, especially when these victims are
innocent sufferers. Dostoyevsky's character Ivan in The Brothers Karamazov makes this case
eloquently when he tells the story of innocent children tortured by cruel soldiers in front of their
parents. How could a loving God allow this? The second case is the acceptance of a loving,
concerned God and the existence of evil in the world. This implies that even God cannot find a way
to eliminate evil, or at least reserve it as punishment only for those who deserve it. A God who
cannot do this is less than omnipotent. Finally, one can

Part One:
What is worldview? A "worldview" is looked at in many different ways. Logical the way one thinks
about life, faith, death, work, values, and morals. As well as "how we see the big picture." Say for
instances you have to make a decision in ones everyday life, and have to deal with actions of the
choices one has chose. According to Sire "a worldview is a commitment." For example your
commitment to how one believes. Everyone interprets what they see different and some may have
the same views. Depending on how one is brought up in their household. A person philosophy of

Naturalism view man's meaning/purpose to be opened to many interpretation of how to leave a
positive impact on others and the world around them. Theists believe that mankind knows God.
Religion is man's attempt to reach God. Christianity translate that the Bible is God's plan to reach
man. John 17:3 states "that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have
sent." Basically having a personal relationship with God.
4. The Question of Morality– "What is meant by right and wrong?" Naturalism theory is what is
right today maybe wrong tomorrow. It is from there on prospective or expressing emotions rather
than state facts. Pantheisms views are God is everything and everything is God. Theists believe in
the fall of Adam. Adam ate the forbidden fruit (Genesis 3). That when it was decided that mankind
was in need of redemption.
5. The Question of Destiny– Is there life after death? Naturalist does not feel there is life after death,
since death is final."Only what one has done to impact the lives of other and the world" lives on.
Pantheists want to end the cycle of reincarnation. Because the choices one has made through their
life while on earth will effect there eternal state. Theists as well, focus on choices one has made.
Which will impact there eternity. Christians believe either Heaven or Hell is where one

How Does the Knowledge of God Involve Faith and Reason?
Midterm Exam
Jacobi and Mendelssohn have two opposing views as to the position faith and reason when
considering the knowledge of God. Jacobi advocates faith while Mendelssohn prefers reason. They
are on opposite sides of the pantheism controversy. In pantheism, God is omnipresent. Everyone can
learn to intellectually love God and, as he is everywhere, we require no mediation to communicate
with Him. Spinoza spawned a school of thought called Spinozism. In this he uses the concept of a
subject and predicate relationship and the principle of sufficient reason to determine the existence of
God. He values both faith and reason. Lessing is of the same opinion, that both faith and reason are
necessary components. He incorporates them into his idea of humanism and general acceptance
which will evolve into a religion of universal reason. Jacobi and Mendelssohn are of two separate
minds. Jacobi believes faith is the only source of truth while Mendelssohn thinks reason is the more
logical path.
Spinoza stated that a glimmer of faith is the manifestation of intuition of the truth. He was seen as
the most fervent defender of pantheism. Spinoza saw God's transcendent nature in his infinite
qualities. All mortal, physical things are conceived by God. This unifies all things. As

The Criticism Of Spinoza

  • 1. The Criticism Of Spinoza There have been numerous criticisms on Spinoza as well as plentiful interpretations. A common label of Spinoza's philosophy is pantheism – a doctrine defined by Merriam–Webster as equating God with the forces and laws of the universe. This is understandable for on the surface, one may interpret Spinoza's God as an equation with the forces and the laws of the universe inasmuch as God is Deus sive natura where natura is natura naturans. But a more accurate label had emerged: panentheism. Panentheism, unlike pantheism, maintains a distinction between the divine and non– divine and the significance of both. In pantheism, there is no distinction between the divine and the universe – they are equal – while in panentheism, the divine and the universe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The sub–categories for these then will be as follows. For theism, there are numerous sub–categories: polytheism, pantheism, monotheism, and finite godism . There are possibly more than these but these are the most dominant. In all these beliefs, there is the existence of a God. It may refer to the existence of only one God (like that of monotheism and pantheism) or many (like that of polytheism and finite godism) – simply put, there is a common denominator in these beliefs and this is the existence of God. For atheism, there are still sub–categories but these sub–categories may be better referred to as classifications or degrees. In a lecture delivered by Alfredo P. Co before the Graduate School of the Divine Word Seminary, three classifications of atheism were given: philosophical, moral, and philosophical–moral. In the above excerpt, one may understand a philosophical atheist as a partial atheist wherein the lifestyle and the philosophical orientation are not in harmony. The atheism is only one side of the coin, and not the whole coin ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It examines their different theories as to how the universe was created, understanding of the universe, 'way of truth, ' 'way of opinion ' and the third way. The author explains that Parmenides, who came after Heraclitus, addressed part of his writings as a refutation of Heraclitus? views. He objected both to Heraclitus? view of the universe and how Heraclitus felt people could gain knowledge of it. From the Paper: "While we have discussed what both men see as the make up of the material world, it is equally important to take up how each man felt he could know what he knows about the universe. Mimicking a bit the structure of Parmenides? own writings, this section ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But between the Sophists and Socrates there was a fundamental difference. The Sophists showed that equally good arguments could be advanced on either side of any issue; they were skeptics who doubted that there could be any certain or reliable knowledge. On the other hand, Socrates was committed to the pursuit of truth and considered it his mission to seek out certain knowledge. Unlike philosophers before them, Sophists claimed to be wise enough to teach whatever you might want to know as long as you were willing to pay them the required fees. Sophists traveled more than ordinary Greeks and they learned that there is a real variety of correct ways to do things depending upon ones perspective. They believed there was no universally appropriate way of doing anything. Therefore there can be no absolutes of any kind. Appearances are reality, at least the only reality any of us can know. They were extremely doubtful about the possibility of discovering anything that was really true. Instead, they taught their followers how to get along in the world, without certain knowledge. They taught their followers how to win disputes, how to speak well and convincingly how to succeed. Their underlying theory developed from two remarks of two of the leading Sophists. Protagoras, perhaps the greatest of the Sophists, said Main is the measure of all things and Gorgias, another great sophist, proclaimed, Nothing exists, and if it did, no one could know it, and if they ... So when they apply this to Bible, they interpret the word of God in their own thought, and can create the cult out of it. As Postmodernism claims no universal truth, it is some what similar to religious pluralism, because religious pluralism also claims that no one religion is divinely truth. So Postmodernism just do not believe in religion instead of denying. They feel appealed or not.

Jake is introduced to an Avatar body which is the combination of ½ human body and ½ alien body basically controlled by the scientists who created it. After watching Avatar, for the first time, I realized that this film had different worldviews mixed together. Somewhat confusing to me. I believe there is some Christianity along with Pantheism. Though it was more difficult for me to see the Christianity throughout this movie, Pantheism stood out. What raises questions to me is the Na'vi's creator, their relationship to each other and a spiritual relationship much higher than them. I view Christianity in this movie as Jake Sully's mission to connect with the Na'vi as "one of them." Jake connects his consciousness into the body of an Avatar. In the beginning of contact with the Na'vi tribe they do not take lightly to him because he spoke English. This was a red flag for them but to stay, Jake had to learn how to win the Na'vi tribes trust. To do this, Jake needed to learn their ways of living. Learn to fight the beast, learn how to hunt with bow and arrows and to do that Jake spent months learning Na'vi traditions and learning to "fit in." This is where I make the correlation between Jakes encounter to Christianity. God sent Jesus to Earth and earn the trust of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. An Analysis of 'A Forest Hymn' by William Cullen Bryant A Forest Hymn by William Cullen Bryant The poem A Forest Hymn talk of the origin of all the nature that surrounds humanity and the activities of these naturally found objects. It gives an indication that the source of all the nature that we see is God and He is the one who controls their actions in all aspects and as to that, the poet implores the entire humanity to humble itself before the creator and controller of nature and worship him, not necessarily in houses or in crowds as both of these are weak and cannot stand before the might of the creator, but in natural settings. This poem is therefore widely a statement of pantheism, which is a position that god and nature are the same. According to Matt Slick, (2011) the word pantheism is derived from Greek words "Pan" meaning all and the other section from "theos" meaning God. This then implies that all nature found in the universe, from the stars, mountains, planets, wind, rain, storms are all part of what God is hence pantheists contest that God is all and all nature is part of God. This should not be confused with the Christian perspective that God created all nature but these are inferior to him and are in no way equal to him. This poem is generally a pantheism statement exemplified since it equates nature to be having the same powers as God. The poet indeed starts off by stating clearly that "The groves were God's first temples. Ere man learned" an indication that if man is inferior to God, yet God used nature ... • 22. Ethical Dilemma Of Pornography Benchmark – Ethical Dilemmas Lindsay Rohland (2015) defined an ethical dilemma as, "a complicated situation in which one must make a difficult choice or decision in the face of conflicting morals." The choice between right or wrong may seem a challenging but a person's morals are typically influenced by religion. Christianity has answers for every dilemma a person could be facing. The ethical dilemma of pornography will be analyzed by the Christian worldview, and compared to the perspective of the pantheistic worldview. Ethical Dilemma Pornography is an ethical dilemma that affects men and women from all walks of life. In TJ's case, porn is photographs or videos that depict of erotic subjects with the intension to titillate the audience (Pornography, 2017). Making an ethical decision is difficult for TJ because of his options: continue to practice his freedom rights to privately watch and giving up the pleasure he receives from watching porn. Continuing will put himself at risk but by quitting he will no longer be supporting the pornography business. If TJ is a Christian, he could look to the core beliefs to help him decide. Core Beliefs The Christian worldview is enforced by the Bible, which does not mention pornography because videography had yet to exist. However, the Bible does mention various forms of sin, prohibited sex and acts of the mind that would cause a person's sexual immortality. Galatians 5 (NIV) states, "19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery... 21orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God." Based off scripture, humanity should not partake activities such as fornication, incest, adultery, orgies, and rape; all popular pornographic storylines. Watching pornographic videos could cause lust and sinful thoughts in. Lust is secular and will separate a person from God (1 John 2:26, NIV). Knowing this may influence a Christian to not indulge on pornography and actively seek counsel. Resolution A specific problem may not be clearly stated word for word in the Bible, but Jesus is and always will be the answer, according to the Christian worldview. From a young age he questioned the authority and legitimacy of the Jewish faith in which he was brought up. Thought an incredibly gifted student, once his elder brother died, he dropped all formal education and took up the family importing business. Three years later, in 1653, Spinoza began studying Latin with Francis van den Enden, a notorious free thinker, who gave Spinoza the basis to modern philosophy. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The understanding and study of Natural Science, Psychology, and Philosophy are the only ways to understand God. Instead of asking for things from God, humans should understand what God wants. To do this, we turn to nature, because God is Nature and Nature is God. There are two ways to go about understanding nature as Spinoza puts it. Believers can look through their limited perspective, or from a global perspective. As humans, we will always be torn between the two, what we can see with our eyes, and the universal perspective. What is "bad" is what is bad for one person from their perspective, and what is good is only good to them. Spinoza's ideas of ethics transcend such selfish definitions. Spinoza believed in a life free from sorrow, guilt, pity or shame. One's happiness lies within aligning their will with that of the universe. The universe has it's own ideas, and it is one's responsibility to discover what they are, and accept them. Thought Spinoza's ideas are beautiful and well crafted, all but a few were not convinced and Spinoza remains one of the least well known philosophers. Abandoning traditional religion for a pantheist one was a task too daunting for the average individual, and Spinoza's works vanished into obscurity and today serve as a warning for what can happen when philosophy goes ... Seeing as to what kind of issues we're dealing with here, it would only be natural to seek help from one of the ultimate sources of wisdom and knowledge. JK I don't believe that by holding the conviction of an infinite looping universe will put as much strain and questions to the said "already existing conceptions" as we think it would. I already spoke about how equally absurd pantheism and "monotheism" is in the "eyes of science". Yes, we can say that monotheism, on one hand, satisfies the need for an (As Aquinas would say it); uncaused mover, whereas for pantheism, they do not propose the idea that there exists a god/God, well at least in the traditional sense (ie a divine entity) – which also from a completely scientific standpoint (the God hypothesis) is not a falsifiable hypothesis. Science claims that if God were to exist, there are certain pre–requisites that ought to be met to show that he exists, unfortunately, God as we both know him to be, does not fit the criteria of an "existing god", well at least according to a purely naturalistic– biased scientific view. Morality In Humanities: Religious Foundations Of Polytheism Morality in Humanities Transition can be defined as a movement, progression, or advancement from one structure, phase, or mode to another. As far as religion is concerned, religious belief in its most idyllic form can be regarded as an influential force for the creation of ecological transformations to subsequent generations that share parallel spiritual viewpoint and values. Religious Foundations of Polytheism, Monotheism, Henotheism and Pantheism Polytheism rests its belief in a multiplicity of gods distinguishing every divine being by particular functions. The gods are, for the most part, identical with function in India's Vedic religion such as Indra (the storm god), Yama (the god of death) etc. In polytheism, the worshippers do not have equal affection or fondness for every holy being. In all probability, polytheism is a progression from an earlier poly–demonism and is associated with animism, ancestor worship, and totemism as well. These mentioned forms of belief are supported by human inclination to worship all matter on earth and in heaven, all that is extraordinary or valuable, weird and wonderful or hideous ("polytheism," 2012). Monotheism cropped up against polytheism. It is a belief in one individual god. When it comes down to the monotheistic religion, it stresses on the existence and genuineness of one personal god that brings together the universe. As the times have changed, so have the concepts, creating differentiating gaps between the ideas. One of the first concepts recorded is known as polytheism, which is similar to animism. When science was not popular and individuals barely had shelter from natural "evils", such as storms, they were inclined to believe everything had god–like characteristics. For instance, they believed gods were in charge of things like the harvest, fertility, and weather. Since most lived the lives of farmers, they worshipped nature, even making sacrifices to pay their respects in order to prevent tragedies. Moving forward, a similar concept would be the ... Pantheists unify the idea of God with everything else, they believe God is not a separate entity. Completely opposing polytheism, monotheism is the belief of a single, all–powerful God. This reality differs from monism and pantheism because it states that everything is independent of God. All of these realities, though very different, have commonalities: they all believe in something bigger than just us. While there is no way of knowing which reality is the truth, there are two that are more widespread throughout the world. Polytheism and monotheism are the prevalent philosophies in the modern world. Religions such as Hinduism, Buddhism, and tribal religions are representative of polytheism. Meanwhile, the most popular religions in the west like Christianity, Judaism, and Islam make up the monotheistic religions. It is shown through the everlasting teachings of kindness, harmony, and peace. Men are smart, but they are selfish and ignorant, making them unable to invent such moral teachings. Hence, those teachings, or Laws, are derived from an another source–God–who is perfectly selfless. Indeed, Christianity is sensical, for there are evidences that God is making changes in humanity. Similarly, all of the innocent Jews would be executed cruelly as Hitler treated them as if they had been devils. Or in a more Biblical context, had everyone agreed with the Romans' perspectives that Christians were evil, Christianity would not have existed. To this point, the Pantheists could argue that Vengeance should not be done because there is a God, who is beyond Good and Evil, tells human not to do so. If God was beyond Good and Evil, how would he decide which actions are good and bad. As he was neither Good nor Evil, he could judge any action was moral or immoral. For instance, he could say forgiveness is Good. At the same time, he could also declare Killing is good, for goodness and badness did not simply exist in him. If God was this way, no one would choose to follow him. In contrast, a Good God creates a Moral Law, which commands people to forgive and not to kill. Universally, everyone knows that killing is bad, and forgiveness is good, but why it is so? Killing is bad because such action goes against the direction of the Moral Law. Conversely, Forgiveness is good because it abides by the Moral Law. A Good God makes the Moral Law, and solely the Good God leads men to a better world. A Pantheists' God only leaves humanity as it has been. Another man–made answer to the question is Dualism, which states that the universe is a battlefield of two Deities–Good and Bad(Lewis, 1952, p. 42). However, if there were actually two fighting ... Every lens is different because every person is unique. Many of these worldviews share similar overarching themes leading into a category we have titled religion; however, worldview is not simply composed of a religious affiliation. Worldview encompasses the entirety of how an individual views the world and all that is that within it. • 74. Essay on Critique of Aquinas's Cosmological Argument Critique of Aquinas's Cosmological Argument Aquinas's 3rd way suggests that the world consists of contingent beings. As all contingent beings have a cause, namely another contingent being, there must have been a time when nothing existed, (unless contingent beings exist as a brute fact). Therefore, contingent beings could not have come into existence unless there is a necessary being which is non– contingent that caused them. Aquinas named this being God. The problem with Aquinas's view is that as physicians have suggested matter is eternal and therefore a necessary being is not required to cause contingent beings. The basis of Aquinas's argument depends on the fact that contingent beings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If matter is eternal then it must always have existed and thus is a brute fact and needs no explanation. Therefore, the universe is not contingent as the matter is never generated or perished, it is only the objects that are made of the matter that perish. Thus, contingent objects exist within the universe but the universe as a whole is essentially brute fact and non–contingent as it is all matter. Thus as Peter Cole suggests in Philosophy Of Religion(22), the cause of the universe is not about the metaphysical necessary being called God, it is about the nature of matter. In continuance to this, the matter itself could be defined as the necessary being as it is eternal and therefore could not have failed to exist. Thus "Matter would be a necessary being and would satisfy the arguments definition of God" ( Stephen Evans in Philosophy Of Religion(55). This would undermine Aquinas as he stated that the necessary being was separate from the universe. In essence, this view of matter as eternal means that if God exists, then far from being separate from the universe, God is the universe. Therefore, God would be defined as the matter of the universe which thus means that pantheism applies which undermines Aquinas. So if a belief in God is needed, then God is the universe, and not God was the cause of the universe as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But, within those branches there are smaller branches. The branches that I am referring to are ; Epistemology, Metaphysics, Philosophy of Science, Philosophy of Meaning, the problem of free will, and social and political philosophy. From all these topics, Metaphysics is the most interesting. Metaphysics is the study of reality. Metaphysic focuses on the question, what explains the source of reality? In the philosophical branch of Metaphysics come smaller branches. Four of these smaller branches are; Dualism, Materialism also known as Physicalism, and Pantheism. Materialism is, "the view that matter is the ultimate constituent of reality" (Velasquez 148). In other words Materialism says that only material things are real. Nothing else exists but matter; there is no spiritual aspect in life. The only thing that matters are things we can see and feel. Charvaka philosophers that believed in Materialism argued that, "Because all we know is what we can perceive with our senses, and because whatever we perceive with our senses is physical and material, it follows that all we can know is the material of physical world around us" (Velasquez 149). They say that if we cannot see it or we do not know that it exists then it must be wrong. If we cannot physically use our senses to acknowledge it then things like souls, gods, or other spiritual "realities "can't be real. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 90. Our Own World Is Portrayed By William Wordsworth Our own world is viewed through our own experiences and shaped through human emotion. Humans can experience and see the world itself can appear to shapes the emotion as well. It is impossible to say which precedes which; does the external world that is clearly and vividly see, show the tangible object that mirrors the mood? It is poetry that has an inherent tendency towards pan–psychism; the feeling that soul and nature pervades all which is close. M.H. Abrams saw for the Romantics that same reverent apprehension of nature 's grandeur: "constituted a systematic theodicy of the landscape" (Natural Supernaturalism, 98). The full grasp of this feeling is the idea of pantheism. This pantheistic tendency became explicit among the Romantics, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These dissenters questioned religion–saw religion with its human tainted touch and the inadequacies that focused more on the materialistic than spiritual–as what religion is supposed to achieve. William Wordsworth is one of the Romantic Era writers that spoke of nature with zeal and reverence with a religious tone. By its very nature, poetic imagery links human thoughts and emotions intimately with the external world. The pathetic fallacy is used here by Wordsworth. It appears that nature is a blank page that takes on the paints of the human feeling. William Wordsworth takes nature as a soul invading figure so far transcendentally as to make it his religion pointing to the idea of a philosophical turn suggesting an atheistic and also a pantheistic world view. Wordsworth writes in his poem 'Composed a few miles above Tintern Abbey": "Nature never did betray The heart that loved her; 'tis her privilege, Through all the years of this our life, to lead From joy to joy: for she can so inform The mind that is within us, so impress With quietness and beauty, and so feed With lofty thoughts." ' (122–128) Wordsworth felt that "poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings" (172) in his "Preface to Lyrical Ballads" stated that he felt an individual could explore and experience the intense emotion that poetry offers.. • 94. The Nature Of God And Which Lense One Helps View Religion... There are many different views about the nature of god and which lense one chooses to view religion or spirituality. The nine that will be discussed are animism, polytheism, henotheism, pantheism, religious dualism, deism, theism, atheism, and agnosticism. While some of these have overlapping principles, they are each unique viewpoints as of the nature of god and are held by different religions throughout the world today and in history. One of the first forms of religions was animism, or the view that there are spirits in natural objects that account for its characteristics and behavior. Since science did not exist the way it does now, people used animism as a way to explain what they were seeing around them not only from a religious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is similar to animism because they believed in the power of each natural occurrence, however, in animism the beliefs were independent of the idea of a god controlling the natural occurrence. Polytheism arose after animism and reduced the number of gods who controlled not only events in nature but also in government and politics. These gods were then politicized and helped to create complex societies and governments which allowed for differences in classes and rankings within society. Polytheism is most commonly known from Hinduism or greek mythology, which has many deities all in control of different aspects of life. Henotheism is a type of polytheism that affirms the existence of multiple gods but worships only one. This form of religion is seen in one path of Hinduism referred to as bhakti yoga. In this religion, for example, they don 't deny the existence of other gods, but believe that Krishna is the most important god that should be worshiped above all others. Greek religions which worshiped Zeus primarily as their god is another example of Henotheism. Taking an entirely different approach then Animism, polytheism, and henotheism is Pantheism. This is the belief that god and the cosmos are one, and God is impersonal (transpersonal). This belief states that every person, plant, animal, living and non–living thing, is part of the one god. Our world view is our perspective of the world around us, which is where we get the understanding of how to live in it. Our purpose in life comes in our worldview. Our worldviews are the foundation of our lives, it determines what we value and what we live for. One's worldview does not have to be in reality as long as it is their reality. One of the most common groups in naturalism is the atheist. The atheist has determined that there is no God, the Bible is all false. Another group is the agnostics, they do not know if there is a God. There is no sufficient evidence to prove that he does or does not exist. The agnostic is open to both possibilities. I personally cannot imagine living a life in such doubt. They might consider themselves in the middle but God will not accept someone into the Kingdom unless they have personally accepted him. The Secularist is opposed to religion interfering with the state. They believe that the state has shown favoritism to religion. Secularist do not want religion to interfere with the affairs of the state and they do not want the state to interfere with religion. Compare And Contrast Worldviews Comparing Worldviews Worldviews vary from person to person and faith to faith, resulting in everyone seeing the world through their own assumptions and beliefs. Out of the many worldviews discussed in the text, Integrative Approaches to Psychology and Christianity, and in class three stood out to me for comparison. These three worldviews consist of Naturalism, Pantheism and Polytheism. Worldviews, although not always correct, are how people see the world and reflect on our expectations about life. Differences can be seen in beliefs such as if they believe in a spiritual world, a material world, or both. Worldview's purposes are to explain the purpose of man and the world. All three worldviews attribute the problems in the world to different aspects based on their beliefs and have diverse notions of how to resolve the world problems. Although a few similarities can be found among these world views, there are multiple differences found. When attempting to explain the purpose of man and the world, all three worldviews use different approaches. Naturalism believes man is here by chance, that humanity just happened and one day it will phase off the earth. Polytheism takes the approach of men and creatures on earth being the creation of gods and were put here to entertain the gods and spirits. Walt Whitman's Relation to the Romantic Period Essay The time of Romanticism brought upon many trends extending from the idea of individualism as a rebellious separation from the classics, an idealistic outlook and finally to a strong religious base. Most of the writers of the Romantic period followed Pantheism "God is everything and everything is God ... the world is either identical with God or in some way a self–expression of his nature" (Owen 1971: 74). The idea of Pantheism was that everything in the world worked in unity. In some of the works of the Romantic period the expression of nature and humans are not separate entities, but one in the same. In the poem he veers from any pattern and words like, "abject louse," and "maggot," followed his reputation of having an angry diction. His work is completely impulsive which was seen as exotic and passionate, which certainly reflected the period. In his poetry he was said by Norton to stay away from, "making any sense or reason," (Saintsbury, 50). Walt Whitman also had a strong emphasis on religion as well. In most of his poetry, including `Faces' Whitman tended to speak of sprits and in this particular poem; the Lord and the soul. The Lord advances, and yet advances; Always the shadow in front–always the reach'd hand bringing up the laggards. (Whitman, `Faces') The soul is also mentioned earlier in the poem as beautiful, despite the faces he sees which are at most "despising," (Whitman, `Faces'). Whitman was apparently very much intrigued by the soul, he tried to find a "path," to the soul even though he admits that he was not sure what the soul was. However, he was determined he would find a "path between reality and their souls," (Allen, 192). Like most of the pantheists of his time he wanted to connect many things, reality and the soul; even individualism and the nation. Whitman quoted, "The empowerments of each element of the country individually but at the same time their merger in the collective empowerment of the nation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Myself, I am a pantheist which means I believe in the science behind everything. However, my friend, Breanna, is agnostic. This means that she "basically believes there is no scientific proof of a higher power." Since her religion is not the same as the main religion people normally follow around here, she is scorned by many people. She has problems maintaining friendships and relationships whenever people find out she is agnostic and her family members refuse to accept it whenever they find out. First of all, Breanna encounters different reactions, just like me, every time she tells people that she follows the agnostic belief. Usually, people who are of the Christian religion are the ones to look down on us. They find out that we do not believe in their God and that usually turns into a quick "death stare" and a firm "you're going to Hell." It does not bother Breanna much whenever she is treated that way though. In contrast to Atheism and Agnosticism, Pantheism does not acknowledge the physical world as reality, but accepts only the spiritual world as real. According to Phillips et al. (2008), there are two approaches that Pantheism can take to resolve the issue of evil in the world. The first is to "suggest that any evil that occurs in the natural world [is] illusory. [The] second... explanation for evil and suffering is karma" (pp. 152–153). Since Pantheism sees the physical world as an illusion, evil is illusionary as well. We are all connected to the universe, or to the One. We are not physical beings, but spiritual beings who need to detach from the physical world (from selfish living) in order to attain enlightenment. Descartes was wrong in his thinking, or at least is is evident that there is something missing from his rationalist thinking. Kant used to believe this but after reading the empirist remarks of Hume he began to see the need for use of our sensory perceptions within reality as well. So the synthesis is that all knowledge comes from the combination of conepts and intuitions (reason and sensory perceptions), without reason we would have no lens to perceive what the nominal wourld is telling us, and without senses we would have no way of understanding what our reason is telling us. But even with this we need to remember that the best that we can do is perceive what is, but that does not determine what something is, the nominal would exists beyond our perception and is still a mystery. From Monotheism To Pantheism Analysis In "From Monotheism to Pantheism: Liberation from Patriarchy in Alice Walker's The Color Purple," a literary essay by Stacie Lynn Hankinson, the author argues the effect shifting religious views have on character development. It was Celie's experience with religion that caused her to allow herself to be abused most of her life. Her entire life Celie had been taught that a man was an impenetrable force. Near the beginning of her book when Celie is describing her abusive step father she states that she "couldn't be mad at my daddy, cause he my daddy. Bible say, honor father and mother no matter what" (Walker 43) Being raised in a catholic home reinforced the harmful message, leaving her at the will of any man in her life. As Hankinson states "It is Celie's interpretation of the biblical God and his commands that breeds her compliance to these abusive patriarchal conditions." • 142. Biblical Worldview Of The Bible What is a Biblical worldview and how does it compare to other worldviews? These are some of the most important questions every Christian should ask. Just because someone believes in God, their perspective of the world around them may be no different than someone who does not believe in God. The key a Biblical worldview is to study the Holy Bible. A Biblical worldview is a system of personal beliefs and values based solely on the Word of God. The Bible serves as a plumb line of truth through which God reveals His perspective regarding the beginning of the universe, identity, ethics and the future. Three worldviews that consistently contrast with the Biblical worldview are Naturalism, Nihilism, and Pantheism. Ethan Pope describes characteristics of a Biblical worldview in his article, "Developing a Biblical Worldview." He suggests that there are two basic worldviews: one that centers on God and one that centers on nature and man. A Biblical worldview centers on God as Creator of the universe and everything in it. Others center on the belief there is no God; therefore, the universe formed itself and man is his own god. This view is called Naturalism or Atheism. (Pope, 2002). Additional key characteristics of a Biblical worldview according to Pope are listed below:  The Bible is God's inspired Word.  Man is born with a sinful nature and sin is his greatest problem.  God provided a solution through Jesus Christ, the one and only Savior from sin.  Miracles can be ... Nietzsche's story is illustrative of a wave of atheism that spread through the intellectual circles of Europe in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, but that never caught on in society at large. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... MONOTHEISM'S THREE–PRONGED PROBLEM Monotheism also contains another essential problem––one with implications for the future. The Western God of the Jewish–Christian–Islamic tradition illustrates the core difficulty in monotheism, a philosophical conundrum that has been called the theodicy problem. It is formulated as a trilemma and can best be illustrated this way: Among the following three statements, it is logically possible to reconcile any two of them, but the agreement of two implies that the third is false. The three statements are: 1. God is omnipotent. 2. God loves us. 3. Evil exists. In the first instance, if God can do anything (create the universe, for example), and if the universe contains natural and moral evils (hurricanes and Hitlers, for example), then it would seem that God lacks compassion for the victims, especially when these victims are innocent sufferers. Dostoyevsky's character Ivan in The Brothers Karamazov makes this case eloquently when he tells the story of innocent children tortured by cruel soldiers in front of their parents. How could a loving God allow this? The second case is the acceptance of a loving, concerned God and the existence of evil in the world. This implies that even God cannot find a way to eliminate evil, or at least reserve it as punishment only for those who deserve it. A God who cannot do this is less than omnipotent.
