1. QUICK GET ME A PAPER TOWEL, I NEED TO CLEAN THIS UP
NAME: VT_4 DATE: September 10, 2009 PERIOD: 4 TEACHER: Mrs. Dorsey/Mr Hanson
QUESTION:
Which paper towel is the most absorbent?
HYPOTHESIS:
If we dip Bounty, Brawny, and
Sparkle into a cup of water then,
Bounty will absorb more water
because its quilted and its 2-ply
sheeted.

1. First of all you get the
measuring cup and fill it up with 0.4
water from the sink but fill it up
all the way and take the cup of 0

water to the table. Category Title
2. Now, you get a sheet of
Bounty Brawny Sparkle
Brawny and dip it in the
measuring cup that has the
water but before that get the
timer ready because once you
dip the sheet in, you start the
timer for 30 seconds, stop the
timer and take the sheet out.
3. Then measure how much is
left in the cup and graph that
result on a piece of paper.
4. Afterwards, do step 2 again
but with Bounty and then
measure how much is left in the
cup and graph that result on the
same piece of paper.
5. Then you do step 2, again,
but this time with Sparkle, and
after you measure how much
water is left in the cup, graph
that result on the same piece of
paper.
6. Finally, you check your graph
and see which one was the most
absorbent.

Conclusion:
We said that if we dipped Bounty, Brawny, and Sparkle into a cup of water, then Bounty would observer
more water.
We did our lab by dipping each paper towel three times into a cup of water. Then, we measured how
much water was left in the cup and subtracted it from the amount of water that we started with. After that, we
graphed all our data on a piece of paper.
Bounty absorbed 1.5 oz. of water the first time, 1.3 oz. the second time, and 1.0 oz. the third time.
Brawny absorbed 1.5 oz. of water the first time, 1.0 the second time and 1.0 the third time. Sparkle absorbed
1.0 the first time, 1.3 the second, and 1.0 the third. Our data might’ve been off because sometimes we let the
water drip in the cup and sometimes we didn’t. It also might’ve been because we squeezed the paper towel,
letting the water fall into the cup.
Yes, our experiment proved our hypothesis right. Our experiment proved it right because overall,
Bounty turned out to be the most absorbent paper towel. It proved it by obviously absorbing the most water. I
wouldn’t be surprised if I tried this experiment again, and Bounty turned out to be the most absorbent paper
towel still.
