6. Moving Sheet Metal
Die Handling Automation Robotic Integration Sheet Metal Handling Tri-Axis Transfers Systems Integration
Atlas stacking systems are used to stack
sheet metal blanks as they exit a blanking
press or cut-to-length line. Atlas offers
robotic, magnetic belt and magnetic roll
stackers for ferrous steel blanks, and
vacuum based stackers for aluminum
blanks. Atlas high-speed stackers improve
productivity by allowing more blanks to be
processed per hour, due to the
uninterrupted flow of material.
Stacking System
The Atlas Cyclone blank and coil washer
provides optimum cleaning of sheet metal
without marring surface finishes. The
Cyclone is modularly constructed with
three to four pair of rolls. The center rolls
provide the cleaning while the exit rolls
control the residual film thickness. Water
or oil based solutions may be utilized
Atlas Technologies Spray Oiler provides
programmed additional oiling of blanks
and coils. Features include individually
controlled, self cleaning nozzles, even
distribution of fluid on the entire blank,
both top and bottom and uniform and
precise edge to edge coverage for
coating consistency.

Atlas destacking systems are used to
automatically separate, feed and
accurately locate individual sheet metal
blanks for subsequent loading into a press,
tandem press line or transfer press. In a
typical system, a “cranesaver” conveyor or
carts are integrated with the destack unit
to queue stacks of blanks and quickly
move them into position for destacking
and move empty pin pallets or dunnage
out after a stack is depleted.
Atlas bundle turnover systems are a
proven way to turnover dies, stacked
parts and pallets. This eliminates the need
for a second die for mirror parts. The
gentle blank handling with “soft touch”
clamping feature, safely and efficiently
turns over multiple sheets of material and
may be used without a pallet.

8. FLEX Tri-Axis Transfer Systems
Die Handling Automation Robotic Integration Sheet Metal Handling Tri-Axis Transfers Systems Integration
The exclusive Atlas FLEX 6000 design utilizes
four independent transfer modules, which
are mirrored on each corner of the press.
Each module is equipped with its own drive
train and servo motors, giving the Atlas
transfer multiple axis of programmable
adjustment and virtually unlimited flexibility.
Each independent motion shares multiple
servo drives which greatly reduces drive
train size and eliminates mechanical linkage
and/or drive shafts. The result is smooth part
transfer at faster running speeds without loss
of part control.
FLEX 6000
Atlas Technologies patented FLEX 5000™ is
a high speed, fully programmable, in-press
transfer system that can be easily retrofitted
to existing presses or integrated with new
presses. The FLEX 5000™ is capable of
transferring loads including tooling of 1,200
pounds with precision and because the
transfer path is fully programmable, presses
are able to run smaller parts faster than a
cam-actuated transfer. Dies are easily
accessed with a FLEX due to the overhead
mounting and the finger tooling rails can be
raised completely out of the way.
FLEX 5000™
9. Automatic Storage and Retrieval Part Racking Systems Automation Tooling Refurbishment & Upgrade
The Atlas FLEX 3000 is identical to our FLEX
5000™, but was designed with lighter loads
in mind. The FLEX 3000 is capable of
smoothly transferring loads of 600 pounds
of weight without loss of part control. With
both the FLEX 3000 and 5000™, the long
axis is split into two separate units and
drives which makes it possible to have two
separate pitches and accommodate
conditions where the pitch could be longer
on the first group of dies within the press
and shorter for smaller dies.
FLEX 3000
The Atlas Flex 1000 was designed to have
a small cross sectional size which provides
the ability to run the rails into very tight
spots (inside the die heels for instance).
This also permits earlier entry/exit into the
die when it is opening or closing which
provides larger die timing windows to work
in and the ability to run at faster speeds.
Capable of precise part and tooling
transfer of up to 300 pounds, the FLEX 1000
is the perfect addition to new or existing
transfer presses for increased part output.

Atlas Automatic Storage and Retrieval Systems
are a high speed, proven, fully programmable
method of efficiently storing and handling dies,
parts, coils and other items weighing up to 50
tons. Our customers gain valuable floor space
by utilizing vertical, otherwise unused space.
The average lead time to complete retrieval is
less than 5 minutes, which eliminates the time
associated with personnel searching for lost
items. A touch screen user interface is used to
facilitate ease of part storage.
13. Automatic Storage and Retrieval Part Racking Systems Automation Tooling Refurbishment & Upgrade
Automatic operation allows items to be
presented at a common location at the
prescribed time. The Atlas AS/RS system can
span from one crane bay or building to another,
eliminating the need for die trucks and the
controlled handling of items, reduces the
potential of costly damage to dies, coils and
parts. Our AS/RS systems are available in wire
rope or ballscrew lift designs and feature lift and
carry capability.
14. End of Line Part Racking Systems
Die Handling Automation Robotic Integration Sheet Metal Handling Tri-Axis Transfers Systems Integration
Atlas End of Line part racking systems are a high
speed means of conveying parts exiting a press
to multiple racking stations. In a typical three
station application, a two-position
reciprocating shuttle always has an empty side
standing ready at the run-out conveyor to pick
up the next part while the other side of the
shuttle delivers a part to an upload station.
Parts can be passed through to a center station
without being shuttled. This dramatically
improves part flow and traffic at the end of the
press line while enhancing the ergonomics of
loading part containers.
15. Automatic Storage and Retrieval Part Racking Systems Automation Tooling Refurbishment & Upgrade
Atlas End of Line Systems allow transfer press
manual load handling at 16 parts per minute
and tandem press manual load handling at 12
parts per minute. Actual production capacity is
dependent upon press speed, dies and part
sizes. Robotic racking of finished parts
utilizing vision guidance is available in certain
applications. Atlas also offers a more compact
design incorporating a shuttle that rotates slightly
at the end of its travel, permitting rack turntables
on the floor with a reasonable footprint.
Low cost, higher speeds, more parts and safer
for employees…Atlas recognizes that for our
customers, it isn’t just an end of line solution, it’s a
bottom line solution.
