International Classification of Diseases – World Health
Organization
ICD-10 – 2016 Z73.0 – Burnout as “state of vital
exhaustion”
ICD-11 – 2022 QD85 – “Burn-out is a syndrome
conceptualized as resulting from chronic workplace stress that
has not been successfully managed.”
It is characterized by three dimensions:
1) feelings of energy depletion or exhaustion;
2) increased mental distance from one’s job, or feelings of
negativism or cynicism related to one's job; and
3) reduced professional efficacy.
“Burn-out refers specifically to phenomena in the
occupational context and should not be applied to
describe experiences in other areas of life.”

• First, care about yourself and be strong – you should be the filter
and barrier
• Create your ideal isle, a safety environment to start talk about
what is needed
• Be realistic and make an honest and deep diagnosis of your
culture, specially about the 6 areas of burnout
• Clarify the role and responsibilities about each part involved: you
as leader, HR, employee
• Empower your employee to be able to stand up to reality and
create their own action plans
• Understand your challenges and try to implement actions to
mitigate it
• Be rational about personal needs and problems, promote support
but be careful about the limit and implications
• Special attention during hiring and terminations process

burnout reducing the stressors or
increasing their level of resources
During the thesis interviews, I
have realized that employees
with lowest level of burnout
normally use a personal
resources to increase the
resistance (the importance of the
6-9 period, the time and the life
out of office).

We need to pay special attention, because when you
start to lose resources the process to lose is quicker
than gaining more or new resources.
To recovery the health stage, the intervention should
be aligned with level of degradation, for this reason
some actions can not be effective – it is not effective
to promote health when you are still in a curative
stage.
