Creative Development
Game Designer- they are responsible for all the main aspects of the game they are the ones
that define how it looks feels and make many core aspects of the game such as its setting;
structure; rules; story flow; characters; the objects, props, vehicles and many more once he
has done his main job it becomes a question of improvement and fixing what he missed he
will still spend time on the game making it better and more crisp but at the same time he
also has to fix and patch all the bugs that he made such as texture meshes or lighting bugs
Level Editor- they are artists who focus purely on the level they are the ones who spend all
their time building the maps we play on they make things such as terrain, buildings and
objects that come together to make a beautiful level this tends to be as far as they go in the
work they do but like a game designer they will have to spend lots of time fixing the game
for bugs like clipping issues with objects or the player so even though they have one task it
need a lot of attention to detail and time to get done right
Lead Artist- they are the ones in charge of both the programmers and the art teams he
coordinate them to build the game as fast as possible but in away so the quality is at its best
he has one of the best paid jobs but it requires a lot of planning and you do need to know
what you are talking about it is one very hard job to do as if you slip up it can affect the hole
design and development team in a very serious way in this job you will need to be ready for
any problem that arrives and know who to assign to that problem
Technical Artist- they act as a brig between artists and programmers they are responsible
for moving assets into the game without messing with the integrity of the map or exceeding
the limits of the software used for the game they work mainly with people like the creative
director and lead programmer to move the assets it is a very new role in the games industry
but has proven to be a very valuable part of the game building proses as it helps the level
editors a lot with the small props and objects that are added into a map
Artist- as the name suggest the do the art they are a key piece to the proses and there work
is the makeup of the game they will spend all their time making concept art for characters,
objects, weapons, and maps it is a hard job and they have a lot to do but without them
there is nothing to look at just grey blocks they will normally work under the lead artist who
will give them individual task o draw for example on will draw an object and another will
draw a weapon
Animator- an animator is responsible for bringing the art to life by making the rendered
characters move and interact it is a hard and complicated job but again very important as
you will want to see a sword swing when you attack thy basically use software and mocap
suits to make a still object to look like its moving when directed they work closely to
2. programmers and artists to make sure there is no problems with meshing or Coad when
the animation is active
Audio Engineer- these people are the ones who make a game sound like it dose but it isn’t
just moving sound files around and editing but a lot of particle work the mainly going out
and record live sounds or setup their own like an explosion then use software to edits these
sound into useable files that will be scripted into the game they tend to work solo but report
to the leaders of tams to show what they have got and what they need to do the sounds the
ether make or find must be their own or copyright free so that no other person can sue
them also the sounds and music used must be of a high standard
Technical Development
Programmer- one of the most important parts of making a game is Being able to do
anything while playing the programmer is the one responsible he is the one who makes a
game work they will mainly be coding things like movement, interaction, fighting, level
mechanics and so much more the game cannot function without them they are the brain
and bloodline of any game made things like cut scenes and menus are put into the game by
Coad or a script its needless to say that this role is one of great importance
Lead Programmer- programming is split into teams that work on individual parts of the
game whether it be the AI or working in the game engine itself the lead programmer over
sees all of this making sure there are no problems and that the work is done on time he will
also do some Coad of his own but management of his team is the key role of the job he will
work with the art teams and so on to make sure that the programmers have all the assets
and sound that is needed to make the game
Project Implementation
Project Manager/Producer- they are the overall boss they are responsible for making sure a
game is up to stander and fished on time the also do the budgeting and control what teams
get what assets the will keep an eye on the progress and if ned be the can outsource work
to other company’s if the team is shorthanded he is in charge of the whole build if
something is wrong he must interact with the team leaders to find a way to fix it before the
deadline date he also has say over the date of a deadline so if a game is held back normally
he will rearrange the date
Assistant Producer- he mainly is the project manages right hand he will help by focusing on
main aspects of a project and be the voice of the manager he will make sure that the
development team is doing as instructed and that the staff are all working to a decent
standard The role and responsibilities change during the development process as different
elements of the game are created Important aspects of the job can include task and
milestone planning and tracking as well as handling review and approval processes
3. External Producer- he is the bridge between the publishers and the development team he
will get all the info from the developers and make sure that the relevant info is given to
producer’s office they will be advising the Dev team with big problems rather than day to
day issues In addition, the External Producer will act as the developer's go-between with the
publisher with regard to interim payments or major changes to the game's design or
appearance
Creative Director- he works much like the main producer but he will focus mainly on the
creative side of the proses he is the one who ensures that the quality and style of the game
is up to standard he will look at the final artwork and concepts and he will have the say if it
is worth using and will give the go ahead the job role is fairly new and was taken from the
product manager role and evolved to focus on the art and creative side of the development
proses
Quality Assurance
QA Tester- they are a vital part of the team the will play the game or just parts of and find
every bug glitch or major issue possible it does sound like a fun job as you are playing games
all day every day but there is a very serious side to it you need to find tests and record bugs
to show to the development team so that it can be fixed the job can get boring fast as at
times you could be playing the same level over a thousand times to ensure that it works you
also work closely with the Dev team as you will have to wright up reports and present them
to the team
Business Development
Public Relations Manager- in this job you are the face of the company you will need to work
close with the community they have to make sure that the company’s image and
representation remains strong and that all the press is dealt with so that the people can get
things like trailers and leaked images they do this by organising Q and A events and
managing forums as they are working to make the company look good so if there is any
problems or slander that could hurt them they have to deal with the problem and make
sure that it does not majorly effect the overall game or the company making it
Product Manager- these are the people that set up budgets and timelines along with
marketing campaigns the basically run the overall business making sure that they stay in
budget and complete the game on time they also work with the bran manager to make sure
that the brand is heading in the right direction and that the company can stay alive one
other job is to make sure that the game is more advanced than others buy conducting
research into the market and seeing how there’s matches up this is vital to making the game
as it sets a standard to the game makers making sure that they can blow the competition
away
4. Marketing Executive- in this job you would be looking at the market and doing all the
research possible to ensure that you product is right you also head up marketing campaigns
and your overall objective is to make sure the product sells as much as possible you are the
main source of revenue for the company as you will work with sponsors and investors to
generate money to build and sell you product you also help in the advertisement team
helping make ads for TV or magazines you also have control over the budget to make sure
that it is being spent in the right quantity’s to the right people
Marketing Manager- in this job you will be in charge of the team of people who sell the
game to the public you will lead them in selling all the games you can, also you will be
looking at the market to see what is selling or what isn’t to make sure game you make will
sell the manager is around to make sure that the game will make a big hit on the market and
sell as much as they can
