Recommending a Strategy 
Ideas for a healthy pharmacy business
Target Pharmacy 
The Target pharmaceutical business is slowly 
shedding script count to competitor pharmacy's. We 
must first figure out why they are losing business and 
how we can fix this.
Why is your pharmacy losing 
business? 
 Pricing 
 Speed of Techs 
 Efficiency 
 Solving problems 
 Computer or register issues
Competitors pricing 
 Pricing seems to be in Target’s favor in most 
cases but drugs like levothyroxine and antibiotics 
are either cheaper or free at other pharmacy's. 
 Publix offers some free antibiotics 
 Wal-Mart sells levothyroxine for $4 vs your pricing 
of $31. 
 Offer some sort of price matching.
Speed and Efficiency 
 There seems to be a problem with the technicians 
speed. 
 New customers that walk up are not immediately 
attended to. 
 Prescriptions are not meeting their wait times. 
 Set a new standard for technicians, hold everyone 
accountable for their speed and efficiency. Make 
customer service priority and make sure they 
acknowledge everyone immediately.
The struggle of solving problems 
 Employees seem to have trouble with insurance 
issues. 
 Employees struggle with time management 
 Send your technicians to other stores to find out 
how they handle different problems.
Electronic issues 
 Registers seem to freeze 
 Your EPS system is slow at times 
 Fingerprint scanners take some time to read 
prints. 
 Contact corporate and inform them of all the 
issues. Ask for new registers or updated software.
Benefits outweigh the risks. 
 The benefits of implementing a lot of these ideas 
will help bring more business to the pharmacy. 
 It will offer better survey scores and happier 
customers. 
 The risks involve a backlash from the team. They 
might not be willing to change. 
 Asking someone to move faster without risking 
safety could potentially cause issues.
Set a new standard 
Your team does a great job at being on time, 
cleaning up after themselves, stocking, and even 
guest service when they are acknowledged. There 
are just a couple small things that can be adjusted to 
offer customers a great experience. I know it wont be 
easy but if you give some of these ideas a chance I 
think you will realize that this type of change is good. 
Target is all about fast, fun, and friendly and this is 
exactly what my ideas will help invoke.
