1. How has audience consumption changed over the last 50 years?
Audience consumption has changed over the years as it has become more accessible, personalized,
portable, cheap and a wider choice.
For example If you wanted to see a film 50 years ago you would have to go to a cinema and see the one
film that was showing that week, there was no choice of what film to watch. However nowadays when
you go to the cinema they have multi screens and more choice of what film you can go and watch. For
example one cinema now can offer around 8 films at a time. There is also the widely available DVDs that
people can watch at home and not at the cinema, people can watch films online or on gaming devices.
Again 50 years ago if you wanted to listen to music you would listen to the radio or use a record player.
Bu not music is more portable and personalized. For example now people have IPods this means that
you can put whatever music you want on anywhere you want making it very portable and personalized
as you can listen to the music you want to.
50 years ago TV was in black and White and very expensive to buy. However it is very different now, TV
is available in colour with free view channels or sky. We now have the ability to record programmes and
watch catch up TV on phones, computers, tablets etc. There are widely showed films and a range of
programmes, compared to 50 years ago when there would be just two channels to chose from.
Newspapers and magazines have changed now also from 50 years ago for example now you can
download and read newspapers on your phone or tablets. This means there are different mediums and
not just on paper. However 50years ago you would have had to go to the shop to buy a paper.
