Robert Adams often used black and white photos do portray wilderness and nature. Often his pictures never include civilization or humans. I believe he found a calming beauty in nature. He often created art that had a lot of going on, but it was also very simple because it had no color. He made it clear that he wanted his artwork to stay away from the busyness of society. So he displayed images of things like this Sitka Spruce, which stands in the Cape Blanco State Park away from civilization.
This image that I created is in response to Robert Adams piece because I wanted to create something from a different view. Like Robert Adams piece, I made it black and white and it also includes the outdoors. Adams shows one tree in a forest or state park that is probably surrounded by other trees. I made a picture that shows two mountains, which stand alone away from civilization and the only thing that is around is a dark sun. This sun looks like it is touching the mountains, but really it is extremely far away.
Most of Richard Pettibon’s paintings are very busy and they usually don’t include a lot of color. Just by looking at it you can see how much detail he includes in all of his artwork. This is a picture of a simple train, but you can see every single line and crease I the train. I also believe that there is a mysterious feel to each of his photos. They all seem like they have a little darkness to them and in this picture we see the dark clouds give this dark feeling. Pettibon definitely has meaning behind all of his paintings and he even repeats ideas several times. He has a few different pictures of trains and he also has several paintings of baseball players. For some reason these things stick out to him.
The purpose of this drawing was to make a simple tree into something a lot more complicated with a great amount of detail. There are three key elements I tried to create. First, was a mysteriousness and this is why I included the two dark clouds. The second element I tried to include was great detail, so I tried Illustrating every single branch and every piece of bark on the tree. The third and final element I tried to create was the simple coloring and that is why most of the tree is black and only a little is green. Richard Pettibon always made something simple into something difficult, while also expressing his ideas and his favorite things.
Walton Ford was hands down my favorite artist out of everyone I looked in to. His artwork is definitely very humorous, but at the same time well done. His paintings in my opinion are very beautiful and clear. Yes, they may be odd and that is his objective. I believe that he wanted to be different and he wanted to be creative. He often created artwork that included nature and animals. He also combined odd things together, like we see in “BulaMatari.” I am not exactly sure what this creature is or what it would be called. It definitely looks to have some zebra in it and maybe something like part horse or part donkey. Whatever it may be it stills is a great example of Walton Ford’s artwork. He really is an interesting artist and you can tell he has a lot of fun doing it.
This drawing of mine is of a dog that has antlers. Obviously this animal would never exist, but I had a lot of fun drawing it. I feel like I went through the same process that Walton Ford would have. I tried to be creative and also different than anything people have seen. I used several different colors in this picture and this also contributes to the uniqueness. I guess we would consider this animal as a mixture of dog and reindeer. This is why he has antlers and also a red nose. Overall the purpose of this picture was to use the same ideas that we would see with Walton Ford does. I definitely like an artist who is unique, has fun with their work and then makes it look good. Ford has a great amount of talent, but really makes him stand out are his unique and fun ideas.
