Schizophrenia is characterized by three essential types of clinical
manifestations:

The firsts includes loss of contact with reality, including delusions and
hallucinations, and, cognitive alterations include problems with attention,
concentration and memory, learning and operational functions.
In some circumstances the impact is such that, the patients require
hospitalization.
Also, patients are have a greater risk of alcoholism, substance abuse and are
more prompt to acquire infectious diseases to commit acts of violence and to
suffer posttraumatic stress disorder. The consequences are higher suicide
mortality, increased respiratory risk and cardiovascular morbidity.
The most characteristic neurobiological disorder is enlargement of the
ventricular system, accompanied by reductions of brain volume and gray matter
in different brain regions
The cause of schizophrenia remains unclear. There are genetic theories (the
disease might be hereditary), biological (biochemical imbalance in the brain);
and possible viral infections and immune disorders.
Treatment
The treatment can be pharmacological, psychiatric and family psychoeducation.
Pharmacological treatment like antipsychotics represents the essential
