2. The EORI number is the
Economic Operators
Registration and
Identification Number, used
by all individuals and
businesses engaged in
trading within the European
Union.
The number is used across
all procedures related to the
Customs administrations,
making it easier for service
providers to identify
themselves and to perform
the needed information
exchange protocols.
3. The EORI number consists of
the country code of the EU
Member State that issued it,
followed by the code or number
attributable to that company or
trading individual that is unique
in the said country.
The sole number allows for
more efficient tracking of the
needed intra-community
operations.
4. The Irish EORI number is issued by the Irish Revenue in accordance
with the European Commission provisions. The number thus
attributed is attached to the value-added tax number, the Irish VAT
number which is mandatory for all businesses that engage in
providing services that are subject to this tax.
5. All companies in Ireland that are
engaged in trading activities
within the EU and with countries
outside the EU are required to
have this number.
The application to request a
number is lodged before this
number is required in order to
perform a transaction that falls
under its scope. More specifically,
the number is issued when the
business or trading individual
first needs it to perform a certain
transaction or trade.
6. All EORI numbers issued by the Irish
authorities or by other EU Member
State authorities and can be
checked online using the EORI
database. The EORI number of an
Irish company can be checked by its
trading partner, just as well as the
Irish company can check it’s
partner’s EORI number.
7. Foreign companies that are not established in the EU can request
an EORI number from the Irish authorities if this country is the one
where they first lodge a customs declaration, such as the entry
summary declaration or the exit summary declaration. Different
conditions apply to Irish branches.
8. THE EORI
CENTRAL SYSTEM
This system stores relevant data
on all registered economic
operators. The data includes the
number itself, the full name of
the economic operator, the
address of the establishment, the
VAT identification number
assigned by the Member State,
the start date, and the end date
of the EORI number, among
others.
