Bankruptcy panel report seeks changes in Cos Act. The T K
Viswanathan committee, constituted by the finance ministry, gave its
report on Tuesday, paving the path for the replacement of the Board of
Industrial and Financial Reconstruction (BIFR). The report will be the
first step in revamping the bankruptcy law. It Raises queries on power
to be granted to proposed NCLT and Comments are Invited on the
Interim Report of Bankruptcy Law Reforms Committee by 20th
February, 2015.
The CBI has arrested an Inspector of Income Tax, Range-3, Lucknow
and an Enforcement Officer, working in the office of EPFO, Bandra,
Mumbai for demanding & accepting bribe from the complainant.
The number of entities having defaulted on payment of penalties and
other fines imposed by SEBI has risen to 1,614, a sharp increase of 16
per cent from the year-ago levels.
The Cabinet on Tuesday approved increasing the National Minorities
Development & Finance Corporation (NMDFC)’s authorised capital

Brief Profile:
Lakshmi Niwas Mittal, the chairman and chief executive officer of ArcelorMittal, was born in 1950, June 15 at a
village Sadulpur which is situated in the Churu district of Rajasthan. His father was a businessman in Rajasthan
who’d deal in iron and steel. Mittal completed his Bachelor of commerce in Business and Accounting in 1969
from St. Xavier’s College in Calcutta. He started his career by contributing to his family’s steel making business
in India. In 1976, he established LNM Group (now Mittal Steel). And in 1994, due to the difference with his
family members, he separated himself and moved with the responsibility of taking care of international
operations of the company. Mittal Steel expanded successfully across 14 countries in the world.
Current Scenario:
He is the member of the Advisory Board of the Kellogg School of Management in the U.S and working as
Director of ICICI Bank Limited and a non-executive director of Goldman Sachs, EADS. Recently, he is the vice
chairman of World Steel Association. In addition, he is also the member of the International Investment Council
in South Africa, the International Iron and Steel Institute’s Executive Committee, the Foreign Investment
Council in Kazakhstan and the World Economic Forum’s International Business Council.
According to Forbes Magazine 2005, he was the third richest man with $25 billion, in 2009, he was the eighth
richest man with $19.3 billion and in 2010, he soared to the fifth richest man across the world with $28.7 billion
fortune.
Philanthropic Work:
In 2007, he raised £1 million on Apprentice, a celebrity special programme, for Comic Relief. He established
Mittal Champions Trust with US$9 million to help 10 potential athletes after experiencing Indian’s athletes’
considerably poor performance in Olympics.
Awards & Achievements:
Lakshmi Narayan Mittal is a case in point, as he has broken the mold of the overambitious entrepreneur and
replaced it with an inspiring combination of business savvy, philanthropy and individualism. Mittal received a
Forbes Lifetime Achievement Award in the year 2008. He was also honored with Grand Cross of Civil Merit by
Government of Spain in the year 2007. Mittal got the fellowship with King’s College London in the year 2007 nd
the 2008 Padma Vibushan, which is the second highest civilian award given in the Republic of India. He is also
named as the European businessman of the Year by Forbes in the year 2004. He is also considered as the Steel
Maker of India.
