3. Why does START need Podcasts? To spread awareness about research Be able to reach many publics at one time Create more “buzz” for START Display START’s mission and vision in a clear way Allow a way for communication between other Centers of Excellence as well as START followers
4. Creating a Podcast Step 1: Record the audio (audacity is a free online program) Step 2: Save the audio file (in MP3 format) to your computer desktop. Open it up into your sound editor and edit out extra background noise or long periods of silence. You can put in music if necessary. Step 3: Identify it. Tag it, give it ID information (Artist, Album) and give it album art such as START logo. Step 4: Create a RSS podcast feed (using Podblaze or Podomatic) and put it on the internet using Feedburner. Step 5: Publish! The feedburner feed is the podcast so it is now ready to be posted to START’s website
5. Utilizing the Podcast START will be using podcasts as a series of interviews conducted by the organization’s interns Each podcast or interview will be focused on a current project or topic of research START is conducting right now The podcast series will be posted on the START website and publicized on the organization’s Facebook and Twitter homepages New podcasts will be created bimonthly and will be a way to reach out and gain members of a research team, inform the government of future projects, and attract other research analysts of STARTS efforts
