This Native American story explains how owls gained their wisdom. In the story, the Everything-Maker is creating all the animals. Owl demands special features like other animals but is told to wait his turn. When the Everything-Maker is creating Rabbit, Owl mocks Rabbit's requests. As punishment, the Everything-Maker gives Owl large eyes and ears to see and listen well, packing his head with wisdom. Owl flies away quickly, now wise but unhappy with his new form.
