Self Introduction
Self–Introduction Essay What is the objective of a self–introduction essay? The objective of a
self–introduction essay is to provide a short, concise introduction to others. A self–introduction essay
can be useful for different reasons such as employment, graduate school, or professional activities.
We will focus on the use of a self–introduction essay solely for the use of employment opportunities.
Employers may request a self introduction essay to provide a 'summary' of each candidate. This
'summary' is a short, concise introduction of the candidate for someone that knows nothing about the
individual. The self–introduction essay can lead to the interview requesting an interview to further
assess the qualifications of the candidate...show more content...
Keep in mind that the interviewer will interview other candidates, how are you unique compared
to the other candidates. Example Expertise 1: The job description lists that candidates with HR
and retention experience are encouraged to apply for the position. I have a strong record of
retaining top quality employees and in fact, I reduced turnover by 15% in my position with IBM.
I was recognized as leading the team with the lowest turnover at IBM for the past 4 years. I have
innovative ideas as to how I can reduce turnover with your company as well. Example Expertise 2:
The position with your company for an entry level marketing representative lists that candidates
with varied marketing experiences are preferred. I have marketing experience with 3 different firms.
I have prepared products for entering emerging markets in Asia, I have surveyed customer groups on
products, and I have advertised investment opportunities with employers. I can draw on my
marketing positions and create exciting marketing efforts with your company. 4 Intensive Business
English & Leadership C. Your Excellence The final part of your self–introduction essay is to
describe your skills or traits that make you unique. Your skills and traits should match those needed
for the position and organization. Example Excellence 1: I excel in the fast pace of the computer

Speech Reflection Essay
During speech class this semester, I gave several different types of speeches on several different
topics. During this semester, my ability to give speeches in front of an audience has improved quite
a bit, I hope. Going into the semester, I had a really hard time giving speeches to people, but now that
speech is almost over I feel like I am more capable of doing so. I think the thing I did best during
the semester was getting good information for each of my speeches. My favorite assignment was
most likely the impromptu speech. I really liked that one because we did not have to prepare an
outline or anything like that, we just got to go up there and speak. During this semester, I learned
a lot about how to give speeches such as the proper way to stand so I do not rock, or how to use
my hands to emphasize my points. In the future, I think that I will be able to control my speed better
during my speeches which will help the people I am presenting to understand my message. I
think the skills I have acquired during speech will help me for the rest of my life. No matter what
career I choose, I am sure that at some point I will have to present to someone about something.
The skills I learned in speech will also help me just communicate with people in a one on one
situation easier than I do now. I can use these skills throughout the rest of high school and through
my six years of college still to come because whenever I have to present a project I will know how to
effectively communicate my message to my audience.
Based off of all of my reflection sheets, video evaluations, and peer critiques I have improved over
the course of the semester. At the beginning of the semester I had a problem with speed and using
to many "filler" words. As the year progressed, my speed became more and more controllable and
I used less and less filler words. After my most recent speech, I'm still not quite at the level I want
to be at, but I am far better than I was at the very beginning. I think just speaking in front of people
more than I am used to doing has helped me develop better speaking skills and grow in my ability to
effectively communicate with others. Throughout the semester I learned a lot about speaking,
performing, and

Introspection Essay
The dictionary describes introspection as the examination or observation of one's own mental and
emotional processes. Kevin Woods stated, "Introspection are all about getting to know yourself at
the core, uncovering your values and then deciding for yourself what's the best action to take."
Your emotions and feelings play a major role in why we do things. If we listen to our feelings then
we can find more things about us that we didn't know. This could benefit us and help us appreciate
more things and live but also may make us overthink some times. Karl Perera mentioned,
"Introspection is good in small doses. If you are feeling very tired or have no energy and can't find a
solution as things keep rolling through your mind over and over then it is time to stop." Overall,
everyone connects with things differently; it is interesting to notice how you feel in certain situations.
I recently just lost a ring that was given to me a couple years ago. I was devastated and felt
irresponsible. I have always wanted a Pandora Ring so this devastation led me to get one. I did a
little research to figure which one I wanted on the Pandora website. My mom also had a Pandora
book that I gazed though. I narrowed it down to a rose gold or a silver ring. I figured once I got into

When I got there I was expecting to lean more towards the rose gold color, but the salesperson

Essay About Myself
School, to me and among many peers of my age, is not a distant term. I have spent one–third of my
life time sitting in classrooms, every week since I was seven years old. After spending this much
time in school, many things and experiences that happened there have left their mark in my
memory. Some are small incidences while some have had a great impact on me. However,
regardless the degree of significance, things that happened all contributed to shape the person that I
am now. I was accused of cheating for the first time when I was seven years old. It was during the
term final where the performance of the test indicates all the progress the student had made
throughout the semester, so its importance was never over emphasized. Though...show more content...
Everything started anew, I was all by myself. While I was busy getting used to the school and
making new friends, I also discovered a new passion, soccer. Through soccer I was able to meet
some of my most loyal friends. We would often get together and play soccer against other classes.
The school required a test for admission, so the competition was getting fierce. The teachers
focused a lot on our academics and tried to squeeze as much time as they can from us to study. As
the result, we were not allowed to play soccer during our free time because it hinders us from
studying. Maybe it is human tendency to break laws, but the gang of us didn’t want to
conform to that rule so sneaking a soccer ball to school and keep it away from the teachers
became an everyday challenge. It was amazing the kind of ideas we came up with for this task.
Soccer added spices into my otherwise boring school life, and it served as a channel between me
and my fellow classmates. Through soccer we found a common ground, that we were able to know
each other more and support each other no matter what happens. It gave us a sense of unity, and it
was very important to me. Even now I cherish the pact I had with them back then – the support that
helped me to stay on the right track during my rebel teenage years. My homeroom teacher at the
time had the most impact on me than any other mentors I had. People say

Understanding of the Self Essay
Understanding of the Self
INTRODUCTION The social constructionist perspective holds the view that the self is continuing
"shaped and reshaped through interactions with others and involvement in social and cultural
activities" (Wetherell & Maybin, 1996, p 220). Social constructionist is concerned with explicating
the processes by which people come to describe, explain, or otherwise account for the world
(including themselves) in which they live (Gergen, 1971). Thus, the social constructionist approach
implies that the self is shaped by social interaction within historical, cultural and social contexts.
Social constructionist's apply an analysis of societal level which explain the self through social
relations. Conversely, the...show more content...
Therefore, the argument as presented by the social constructionist view is that self identity is shaped
through a combination of interactions between the society and the individual (Wetherell and
Maybin, 1996). An example to support would be social constructionist's Miller and Sperry whose
finding discovered connections in the emotions of a child's and his mother's. Thus they believe that
this finding proves that there is an internalisation and construction of one self through descriptive
stories and social distribution (Wetherell & Maybin, 1996).
Both the social constructionist and the psychodynamic views adopt a hermeneutic epistemology,
which centers on the analysis of a person's actions, their fundamental influences and how the external
social world can be internalised and represented symbolically within an individual (Stevens, 1996).
However, there are key differences between the two views. The social constructionist applies a
societal study approach which converge the external society and the social relationships within it.
This implying that the self is built–up and continually developed through multiple social networks
(Sapsford, 1996). On the other hand, psychodynamic theories applies psychoanalytical

Self Care Essay example
Just to think about self care can be a task in itself. I never really thought it about it, to be honest,
but it is an essential part of living. We get so busy and caught up living in our everyday lives that
we forget about the most important part, ourselves. I have two young kids ages 3 and 5, so my
focus is always to take care of them and make sure their needs are met, forgetting about myself along
the way. I think this assignment will help me to appreciate and not take for granted the things that I
know I need to do for myself and to show love to the most important person, me.

In class we discussed "saying no" being apart of our plans and I know that this is a must for me.
At times I find myself running around like a chicken with its head cutoff. If only I had the courage
to tell people no when I really need to the most. This will be tough for me but I know that it will
help me have more time to do the things I love.
Although there are several things on my list that I am cringing over I will give it my all. What
better way to be a good therapist? Starting the process of self–care now will hopefully alleviate
future problems that I could face. I embrace this experience to create more self–love within. Setting
out with determination and a clear understanding of my plan will hopefully create the motivation
that I need to complete my goals. Knowing how I am, I have to take this day–by–day. If I do miss a
task, instead of beating up on myself as I usually do I will commit to that task the following day.
Its not so much doing the tasks that I am worried about because everything on my list I appreciate,
it is finding the time to fit it all in. I think what will motivate me is knowing that if I can't help and
take care of myself then how can I take care of my future clients. My ultimate goal after attending
Antioch is of course helping others better their lives so I think this plan will give me a jumpstart in
helping myself first.

Essay on Writing Self-Evaluation
I believe it is important for any student who wants to do their best in a class to take a moment to
evaluate their own work to determine the rate their writing is progressing and how they can
continue to advance their writing. When I looked through my own work I asked myself "what have
I learned this semester?" and "what do I still need to learn in order to improve my writing?".
Answering both these questions will help me with my last step of my self–evaluation, developing a
plan to learn new skills.
During this semester, I have strengthened my writing by trying new writing techniques, learning
about purpose, and finding new ways of combating writers block. My first essay in this class was
less focused then the essays I wrote later in...show more content...
I have struggled with writer's block with often. In the past, I've learned to take breaks while
writing to help alleviate symptoms of writers block; however, during the semester I have learned
to carry a pad of paper with me so that I can write down idea's while they are fresh in my mind.
Writing down my thoughts has helped me avoid writers block because I have a list of thoughts
about the subject before I have even started writing. When I struggle less to write it improves my
essay's by decreasing my stress, this can be seen in my writing. I was afflicted with writer's block
while trying to write both my compare and contrast essay and my description essay, this caused
me a lot of stress and caused my essay to suffer. On the other hand, when I wrote my classify and
divide essay I did not have to deal with writer's block. As a result the stress level was greatly
decreased and the improvement is substantial.
Although my writing has made some good progress during the course of this semester, I still some
things I need to learn in order to keep improving my writing. Grammar, writing in an active voice,
and building my rewrite skills are three examples of skills I need to build upon to continue to
improve me writing.
Even though my grammar has improved during the progression of this class, I still have a lot to
learn before my knowledge of grammar can contribute to my writing. I have never had an aptitude for

example, my learning style I have noticed is the visual learning style.
With this, I prefer to see and read information to full gain comprehension. If I forget the data, or
not clearly understand it the first time read, I have the option of reading it over. I do not always
trust myself to absorb all information the first time around. I take a lot of notes to look at. Notes
help me remember even though I may not read the again, I can refer to them in my mind after
writing them down. I am not sure if just anyone reading them would get anything out of it, but at

I like to take my time with material, but am not always given the allotted time to do so. I also like

Development of Self Essay
Development of Self
The development of self starts at a very young age. When a preschooler is asked how are they
different from other children, they usually look at their self concept. Self concept is their identity, of
their set of beliefs about what they are like as individuals. Most preschoolers give inaccurate
statements about their self concept. They usually overestimate their skills and knowledge.
Preschool–age children also begin to develop a view of self that reflects their particular culture
considers the self. An example of this would be to look at the different views as self between the
Western culture and the Asian culture. Western cultures believe that an individual should seek

Children's views of self become more differentiated. As they get older, children discover that they
may be good at some things and not so good at others. Children's self– concepts become divided into
personal and academic spheres. During middle childhood children begin social comparison. Social
comparison is the desire to evaluate one's own behavior, abilities, expertise, and opinions by
comparing them to those of others. During middle childhood children deal with the crisis industry
versus inferiority stage. The stage is characterized by a focus on efforts to attain competence in
meeting the challenges presented by parents, peers, school, and other complexities of the modern
world. This is a time of their life where the child develops a self esteem. Self–esteem in an
individual's overall and specific positive and negative self–evaluation. Self concept reflects beliefs
and cognitions about the self, self–esteem is more emotionally oriented. The self–esteem of most
children tends to increase during middle childhood with a brief decline around age of 12. Some
evidence shows that members of minority groups have lower self–esteem then those of the majority
group. Children build a sense of self efficacy during their elementary years. Self efficacy refers to
learned expectations that one is capable of carrying out a behavior or producing a desired outcome
in a particular situation.

The Self Essay
The Self Every situation that an individual is exposed to throughout life, helps mold our "self." As
humans we have the ability to see ourselves from the outside, and all through life we try to see what
others see and our "self" revolves around the generalized other. We observe how others perceive us
and we make conclusions depending on our observations. How we act around others depends on the
image we feel they have towards us.
Charles Horton Cooley, a symbolic interactionist, concluded that our sense of "self" develops from
interactions with others. Cooley described this process as the...show more content...
On the other hand if you see yourself as an individual who can communicate without a problem and
you see that you can keep others interested in a given conversations, your reaction is more positive.
Through this looking– glass self we develop a "self" concept. Depending on the observations we
make concerning the reactions of others we develop feelings and ideas about ourselves. The
reflection we see in the mirror is either negative or positive depending on the feedback we get back
from those around us. Misjudgments of the reactions of others become part of our "self" concept
also the misinterpretations of how others think of us. Self concepts begins in childhood but it
continues to develop throughout life. As we observe how other people react to us, we modify our
"self."
The "self" is never a finished project, and it continues to change as our life takes different turns. Our
"self" reacts to the environment that we are in. As the "self" expands we put together the different
reactions making us a unique individual. Every individual has a different way of thinking and
therefore they make their own choices about certain situations. Going through different life changes,
means the "self" is expected to change to accommodate the life stage we find our selves in. The

A person's identity is shaped by many different aspects. Family, culture, friends, personal interests
and surrounding environments are all factors that tend to help shape a person's identity. Some
factors may have more of an influence than others and some may not have any influence at all. As a
person grows up in a family, they are influenced by many aspects of their life. Family and culture
may influence a person's sense of responsibilities, ethics and morals, tastes in music, humor and

Society has had a limited impact on my lifestyle, mostly because I despise trends. The largest trends
I despise are rap and hip–hop and the clothing, attitudes, and type of speech that that type of 'music'
is breeding. I chose to steer away from that crowd, but it may also be because I live my life off of
adrenaline. My high on life is the energy I have when I get my blood pumping, my heart
pounding, and my adrenaline raging. Most aspects of my individuality reflect that very well. I
love hard, aggressive music, and also guns, but my passion in life is extreme sports, whether it be
on a dirt bike, a bmx bike, a snowmobile, or a snowboard. I have a strong set of morals and ethics
that I have partly adopted from my parents, but some are also partly my own. My morals mostly
consist of karma (being kind, caring, helpful, truthful, and considerate to others), not littering
(especially in nature), respecting nature, keeping a clean and welcoming home, success that is
measured with happiness and not possessions, and having strong family ties. I feel that I am very
strongly rounded individual who is going to go far in life. Many people would agree with that,
although some people just think that I am an absolutely crazy person who has a death wish and will

have learned about my; self concept, attitudes and feelings. I have also learned about social
influence, group dynamics and relationships. I learned about myself and how to describe the way
that I am and the way that I think.
I have learned that I am a creative and compassionate. I am a creative person because I enjoy
activities that allow m to put things together. I like to let my imagination run and make things look
more exciting I also think that I am a very good listener which makes me a very compassionate
person. I...show more content...
I seldom ask for help, and I don't go out of my way to talk to people. From what I have learned in
this course, I think that to some people this might make me look like a jerk. Or that I think I'm
better than them. When In reality I'm just a little bit of a socially awkward person. It's not that I
don't like other people, I just really enjoy spending time with myself. I know a lot of people, but I
only have two or three that I consider my friends. I value the quality of my relationships more than
the quantity. I would rather go out and do something with one or two friends, rather than a large
group. I enjoy having the close relationships with my few friends, I have no desire to fill my life
with a ton of superficial friendships that come and go.
I take a lot of pride in the work that I do. It doesn't matter what I'm doing, it could be playing video
games, riding my bike, or at work. When I succeed at something I give myself a lot of credit. To
some people this may seem like I'm conceded, or that I like to show off. The reality of it is that
rewarding myself for doing something good motivates me to continue to do good things. It's a
way for me to motivate myself. The way I credit myself is not in the fashion of gloating, or
showing off my success, but the opposite. I play off my successes like they're no big deal. To
some people I may seem conceded when I accomplish something. For example, when I was in the
Army, I was selected for airborne school. Airborne school

Self Exploration
Many of us go through life skimming the surface of our identities. That is, we don't truly dig deeply
into our thoughts, feelings, desires and dreams.
Part of the problem is that we're always on the go. When to–do lists keep swelling, self–exploration
takes a backseat. How can it not, when we barely find time for self–care?
Specifically, self–exploration involves "taking a look at your own thoughts, feelings, behaviors and
motivations and asking why. It's looking for the roots of who we are – answers to all the questions
we have about [ourselves]," according to Ryan Howes, Ph.D, psychologist, writer and professor in
Pasadena, California.
Having a deeper understanding of ourselves has many benefits. It "helps people understand and

Take some time and think about what you might need in order to be happy and ultimately successful
in your job/career. For example, a few things to consider might be salary, geographic location, job
autonomy, work hours, and professional growth opportunities, to name a few. Which ones of these,
and/or others, are most significant; things that would make an obvious difference in whether we
would enjoy our job/career? If you don't take the time to consider who you are and what you want,
you won't know what you are looking for. You need to be aware that no job/career is going to be
perfect and meet all of your expectations. But if you at least think about which things are more
vital to your happiness and aim for those, you can come pretty close to what you want. Think
about the skills and abilities you may have that you would like to utilize in your chosen profession
(i.e. leadership, helping others, mathematical ability, creativity, communication, etc.) Which careers
give you more of an opportunity to express yourself and be yourself? Many people make the
mistake of assuming that they can and will do just about anything for the right amount of money.
Well let me assure you that this is only partially true. In the beginning, the money may seem like
enough to sustain your job satisfaction and happiness, but soon everyone realizes that money alone
is only a temporary fix. If you don't really like what you are doing, or like where you work, you
won't be

Essay on Self-Analysis
Self–Analysis
Before taking this course my writing styles and habits were very different. I was the typical
procrastinator because I would wait until the night before a paper was due to start it. This did not
allow me enough time to properly proofread everything, which resulted in getting points deducted for
simple grammatical errors that could have been avoided if I would have had the time to proofread.
My writing styles have many strengths and weaknesses and I have been able to improve my writing
because of them. I have learned from my strengths and weaknesses how to become a better writer.
In my writing, I have many strengths, some that which I have developed through this course and
some that I already had. Before this...show more content...
I can write a thesis that will give an overview about what main topic of the paper is and what other
elements will be addressed in the paper. From taking this course I have been able to improve
many of my weaknesses, but there are still some that I need to work on. Overall I am becoming
better at not procrastinating as much as I used to. This class has helped me to learn to take the
little steps along the way because then there will not be as much work to do towards the end.
This has also made me realize that the final product of my writing will turn out better because it
will have had more time to develop, which means that there would have been more opportunities
to proofread. I think by learning many styles of writing, such as paraphrasing, summarizing,
analyzing, and researching; it has enabled me to be able to write more broadly. By knowing how
to correctly use all of these kinds of writing styles, it will help me in the future for other classes
because I will have the knowledge that I need to write these types of papers. I still procrastinate
sometimes, but not as much as I used to. I will be able to improve on this as time goes along
because I will become more motivated by seeing the end result, which usually would be better
grades.
Overall I think that my most of my writing habits have improved and for the ones that have not I
know what they are and what I need to do to improve them. My strengths that I already had as

Self Introduction Essay Example

  • 1. Self Introduction Self–Introduction Essay What is the objective of a self–introduction essay? The objective of a self–introduction essay is to provide a short, concise introduction to others. A self–introduction essay can be useful for different reasons such as employment, graduate school, or professional activities. We will focus on the use of a self–introduction essay solely for the use of employment opportunities. Employers may request a self introduction essay to provide a 'summary' of each candidate. This 'summary' is a short, concise introduction of the candidate for someone that knows nothing about the individual. The self–introduction essay can lead to the interview requesting an interview to further assess the qualifications of the candidate...show more content... Keep in mind that the interviewer will interview other candidates, how are you unique compared to the other candidates. Example Expertise 1: The job description lists that candidates with HR and retention experience are encouraged to apply for the position. I have a strong record of retaining top quality employees and in fact, I reduced turnover by 15% in my position with IBM. I was recognized as leading the team with the lowest turnover at IBM for the past 4 years. I have innovative ideas as to how I can reduce turnover with your company as well. Example Expertise 2: The position with your company for an entry level marketing representative lists that candidates with varied marketing experiences are preferred. I have marketing experience with 3 different firms. I have prepared products for entering emerging markets in Asia, I have surveyed customer groups on products, and I have advertised investment opportunities with employers. I can draw on my marketing positions and create exciting marketing efforts with your company. 4 Intensive Business English & Leadership C. Your Excellence The final part of your self–introduction essay is to describe your skills or traits that make you unique. Your skills and traits should match those needed for the position and organization. • 2. Speech Reflection Essay During speech class this semester, I gave several different types of speeches on several different topics. During this semester, my ability to give speeches in front of an audience has improved quite a bit, I hope. Going into the semester, I had a really hard time giving speeches to people, but now that speech is almost over I feel like I am more capable of doing so. I think the thing I did best during the semester was getting good information for each of my speeches. My favorite assignment was most likely the impromptu speech. I really liked that one because we did not have to prepare an outline or anything like that, we just got to go up there and speak. During this semester, I learned a lot about how to give speeches such as the proper way to stand so I do not rock, or how to use my hands to emphasize my points. In the future, I think that I will be able to control my speed better during my speeches which will help the people I am presenting to understand my message. I think the skills I have acquired during speech will help me for the rest of my life. No matter what career I choose, I am sure that at some point I will have to present to someone about something. The skills I learned in speech will also help me just communicate with people in a one on one situation easier than I do now. I can use these skills throughout the rest of high school and through my six years of college still to come because whenever I have to present a project I will know how to effectively communicate my message to my audience. Based off of all of my reflection sheets, video evaluations, and peer critiques I have improved over the course of the semester. At the beginning of the semester I had a problem with speed and using to many "filler" words. As the year progressed, my speed became more and more controllable and I used less and less filler words. After my most recent speech, I'm still not quite at the level I want to be at, but I am far better than I was at the very beginning. I think just speaking in front of people more than I am used to doing has helped me develop better speaking skills and grow in my ability to effectively communicate with others. Throughout the semester I learned a lot about speaking, performing, and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Introspection Essay The dictionary describes introspection as the examination or observation of one's own mental and emotional processes. Kevin Woods stated, "Introspection are all about getting to know yourself at the core, uncovering your values and then deciding for yourself what's the best action to take." Your emotions and feelings play a major role in why we do things. If we listen to our feelings then we can find more things about us that we didn't know. This could benefit us and help us appreciate more things and live but also may make us overthink some times. Karl Perera mentioned, "Introspection is good in small doses. If you are feeling very tired or have no energy and can't find a solution as things keep rolling through your mind over and over then it is time to stop." Overall, everyone connects with things differently; it is interesting to notice how you feel in certain situations. I recently just lost a ring that was given to me a couple years ago. I was devastated and felt irresponsible. I have always wanted a Pandora Ring so this devastation led me to get one. I did a little research to figure which one I wanted on the Pandora website. My mom also had a Pandora book that I gazed though. I narrowed it down to a rose gold or a silver ring. I figured once I got into the...show more content... • 6. Essay About Myself School, to me and among many peers of my age, is not a distant term. I have spent one–third of my life time sitting in classrooms, every week since I was seven years old. After spending this much time in school, many things and experiences that happened there have left their mark in my memory. Some are small incidences while some have had a great impact on me. However, regardless the degree of significance, things that happened all contributed to shape the person that I am now. I was accused of cheating for the first time when I was seven years old. It was during the term final where the performance of the test indicates all the progress the student had made throughout the semester, so its importance was never over emphasized. Though...show more content... Everything started anew, I was all by myself. While I was busy getting used to the school and making new friends, I also discovered a new passion, soccer. Through soccer I was able to meet some of my most loyal friends. We would often get together and play soccer against other classes. The school required a test for admission, so the competition was getting fierce. The teachers focused a lot on our academics and tried to squeeze as much time as they can from us to study. As the result, we were not allowed to play soccer during our free time because it hinders us from studying. Maybe it is human tendency to break laws, but the gang of us didn’t want to conform to that rule so sneaking a soccer ball to school and keep it away from the teachers became an everyday challenge. It was amazing the kind of ideas we came up with for this task. Soccer added spices into my otherwise boring school life, and it served as a channel between me and my fellow classmates. Through soccer we found a common ground, that we were able to know each other more and support each other no matter what happens. It gave us a sense of unity, and it was very important to me. Even now I cherish the pact I had with them back then – the support that helped me to stay on the right track during my rebel teenage years. My homeroom teacher at the time had the most impact on me than any other mentors I had. People say Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Understanding of the Self Essay Understanding of the Self INTRODUCTION The social constructionist perspective holds the view that the self is continuing "shaped and reshaped through interactions with others and involvement in social and cultural activities" (Wetherell & Maybin, 1996, p 220). Social constructionist is concerned with explicating the processes by which people come to describe, explain, or otherwise account for the world (including themselves) in which they live (Gergen, 1971). Thus, the social constructionist approach implies that the self is shaped by social interaction within historical, cultural and social contexts. Social constructionist's apply an analysis of societal level which explain the self through social relations. Conversely, the...show more content... Therefore, the argument as presented by the social constructionist view is that self identity is shaped through a combination of interactions between the society and the individual (Wetherell and Maybin, 1996). An example to support would be social constructionist's Miller and Sperry whose finding discovered connections in the emotions of a child's and his mother's. Thus they believe that this finding proves that there is an internalisation and construction of one self through descriptive stories and social distribution (Wetherell & Maybin, 1996). Both the social constructionist and the psychodynamic views adopt a hermeneutic epistemology, which centers on the analysis of a person's actions, their fundamental influences and how the external social world can be internalised and represented symbolically within an individual (Stevens, 1996). However, there are key differences between the two views. The social constructionist applies a societal study approach which converge the external society and the social relationships within it. This implying that the self is built–up and continually developed through multiple social networks (Sapsford, 1996). • 8. Self Care Essay example Just to think about self care can be a task in itself. I never really thought it about it, to be honest, but it is an essential part of living. We get so busy and caught up living in our everyday lives that we forget about the most important part, ourselves. I have two young kids ages 3 and 5, so my focus is always to take care of them and make sure their needs are met, forgetting about myself along the way. I think this assignment will help me to appreciate and not take for granted the things that I know I need to do for myself and to show love to the most important person, me. Stress management and self–soothing techniques are critical for surviving modern work–no matter the focus of the work. Psychotherapists tend to disregard their...show more content... In class we discussed "saying no" being apart of our plans and I know that this is a must for me. At times I find myself running around like a chicken with its head cutoff. If only I had the courage to tell people no when I really need to the most. This will be tough for me but I know that it will help me have more time to do the things I love. Although there are several things on my list that I am cringing over I will give it my all. What better way to be a good therapist? Starting the process of self–care now will hopefully alleviate future problems that I could face. I embrace this experience to create more self–love within. Setting out with determination and a clear understanding of my plan will hopefully create the motivation that I need to complete my goals. Knowing how I am, I have to take this day–by–day. If I do miss a task, instead of beating up on myself as I usually do I will commit to that task the following day. Its not so much doing the tasks that I am worried about because everything on my list I appreciate, it is finding the time to fit it all in. I think what will motivate me is knowing that if I can't help and take care of myself then how can I take care of my future clients. My ultimate goal after attending Antioch is of course helping others better their lives so I think this plan will give me a jumpstart in helping myself first. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Essay on Writing Self-Evaluation I believe it is important for any student who wants to do their best in a class to take a moment to evaluate their own work to determine the rate their writing is progressing and how they can continue to advance their writing. When I looked through my own work I asked myself "what have I learned this semester?" and "what do I still need to learn in order to improve my writing?". Answering both these questions will help me with my last step of my self–evaluation, developing a plan to learn new skills. During this semester, I have strengthened my writing by trying new writing techniques, learning about purpose, and finding new ways of combating writers block. In the past, I've learned to take breaks while writing to help alleviate symptoms of writers block; however, during the semester I have learned to carry a pad of paper with me so that I can write down idea's while they are fresh in my mind. Writing down my thoughts has helped me avoid writers block because I have a list of thoughts about the subject before I have even started writing. When I struggle less to write it improves my essay's by decreasing my stress, this can be seen in my writing. I was afflicted with writer's block while trying to write both my compare and contrast essay and my description essay, this caused me a lot of stress and caused my essay to suffer. On the other hand, when I wrote my classify and divide essay I did not have to deal with writer's block. As a result the stress level was greatly decreased and the improvement is substantial. Although my writing has made some good progress during the course of this semester, I still some things I need to learn in order to keep improving my writing. Grammar, writing in an active voice, and building my rewrite skills are three examples of skills I need to build upon to continue to improve me writing. Even though my grammar has improved during the progression of this class, I still have a lot to learn before my knowledge of grammar can contribute to my writing. As humans we have the ability to see ourselves from the outside, and all through life we try to see what others see and our "self" revolves around the generalized other. We observe how others perceive us and we make conclusions depending on our observations. How we act around others depends on the image we feel they have towards us.
