AG2 Support Clients to make use of the advice and guidance service
When conducting an IAG interview it is vital as an advisor that I am able to clarify the client's
requirements and circumstances in order to agree with them the best course of action to help
them achieve their goals or to be able to signpost them to other external organisations and
charities. Most clients I give advice and guidance to are jobseekers aged between 18 and 60 or
those who are at risk of redundancy. All of my clients have a variety of different situations and
aspirations and need to be treated as individuals. The room in which IAG is conducted in is
private, spacious and clutter free in order to allow the client to feel secure and allow them to feel
relaxed...show more content...
As my clients come to see me to help them to find work through either training or employability
skills it is important that I have had information on the local labour market, job roles and training
courses for them to browse. I also have information, that from my experiences within the
employment and welfare to work sectors I have found to be useful to clients when exploring the
reasons that they are currently unemployed. Such information is on benefits, local authorities,
counselling services, childcare provision, support groups and volunteering resources. I also have
established links with a large number of third sector and employability agencies that I am able to
refer and signpost clients to.
When conducting advice and guidance interviews, it is essential that the client has fully understood a
service or a particular course of action so that they can agree that it will be helping them towards
their goals and fit in with their individual circumstances. If any such service does not fulfil the
requirements and needs of the client then another option must be suggested, or a solution so that
the client can use the service. One of the most common examples of clients not being able to
attend training sessions is due to the cost of childcare, or having nobody to look after the children.
I have agreed with Job Centre Plus that childcare provision can be arranged and paid for by them on
behalf of the

The Best Advice Ever Given In life there are many challenges that may either make or break a
person. The journey to overcome these challenges is often made easier by a handful of useful
advice. This advice doesn't necessarily have to come from a much wiser person. It's the advice
itself that is labeled as being wise. Just because someone gives another person wise advice, it
doesn't necessarily mean that the task at hand will immediately be overcome. The receiver must
use the advice willingly for it to be effective. Some of the best advice I have ever been given was to
never burn bridges. My father gave me this advice when I was a teenager. He found out the hard way
that burning...show more content...
I also know that my father's advice would have been useless if I wouldn't have executed it and just
ignored his words. Being so thankful for the power of advice, I have promised myself to take any
advice that is free and if I have overcome an obstacle someone else is struggling with, I will always
offer my fair share of advice. In my interview with Hope she told me the greatest advice she ever
received came from her father. The advice was never to dwell on things that would not benefit
her. He gave her the advice because she would stress about friends who were one sided and just
dragged her down. In her life this helped her to drown out the negative and focus on the goals and
the good things in her life. I can totally relate to this advice as I've dealt with friends who were also
negative and one sided. To move forward from negative people is a big step for anyone to make and
will benefit the person for the best. This is good advice for anyone to take in a similar situation.
As I would give someone the advice I have learned, this is advice I would take away and use to my
advantage. In my second interview with Cassie I learned some very valuable things. Cassie told
me the best advice she ever received was no matter what happens, keep going, things might seem
bad, but it's not over yet and hard work pays off given by a family friend. Cassie says her family
friend, Nikki, gave her the

Essay on The Future of Education
The Future of Education
As teachers our primary concern should be the students and what type of learning environment will
be best suited to meet their needs. There are many different opinions as top what the most effective
or appropriate curriculum is for the students. I do not believe there is any one philosophy that can
provide the ideal curriculum for each and every student. Just as there are numerous methods of
teaching, there are also numerous ways to learn. It is essential that we keep this in mind as we help
the students achieve their goals and discover their talents. Above all we must encourage the students
to try new things and do what we can to prevent limiting them in any way.
I do not feel that I...show more content...
I think that many of the schools today merely try to prepare the students to move on to college and
by doing so exclude the students who are gifted with other abilities that are equally important and
useful in society, even though those talents may not necessarily be something that can be refined
through a traditional four year college.
As a future teacher, I very strongly believe that students need to be shown practical applications of
the concepts they are taught. For myself this is especially notable in mathematical applications. As
teachers we need to not just show how to work through a problem: we need to show why it works
and what it is useful for. Without something to apply the information to math is nothing more than a
stream of numbers and formulas that students memorize for a specific test and then quickly forget.
By demonstrating specific examples of applications the students will be able to retain some of the
information easier and then adapt what they learn to other problems they encounter in the future.
Upon graduation I hope to begin teaching Math at the middle school or high school level.
Geometry, Trigonometry, and Algebra would be my first choices of classes I would like to teach,
but I feel I would enjoy teaching any of the other forms of math. I would prefer to teach in a rural
area since that is the

Advice To Youth By Mark Twain
Thinking back as a teenager, one of the last things you would want to do is listen to an adult
giving you advice on how to behave and become an adult. This was exactly what Mark Twain was
asked to do in 1882. He was challenged to write a speech to a class of young girls with instructive
advice that would be suitable towards youth. The challenge he faced was how to effectively
delivery his message to teenagers without sounding like a preaching adult on what not to do. Twain
knew he had to deliver his speech in a unique fashion, to be able to captivate his youthful audience.
He uses a non–traditional method that was written with a comedic approach aimed toward the
teenage audience, similar to a graduation speech. In his essay Twain addresses...show more content...
Mark Twain's "Advice to Youth" is more than just a satirical speech. He is advising youth to prepare
to join and be competent in adult life. Twain uses satire and sarcasm as an effective tool to be able
to communicate and capture his youthful audience. Since conventional sermons about ethics and
morals are often heard and overused during this time, Twain was brilliant enough to understand
this and develop an effective technique. Without using this technique, his speech and many of his
words may of fell on many of deaf ears. His cleverness cannot be argued with the effective method
used to communicate and deliver his monumental speech. However, considering that the true
purpose of this message is to bring about a positive message to the teenagers, some may consider
his purpose more directed towards the adults mocking the old saying 'do as I say, not as I do'
motto. Twain may have been more focused on tying to point out the errors of adult cynicism, with a
view toward making society more honest, cooperative, and rational. The end result, although
untraditional and sarcastic, his speech and advice was likely absorbed by the teens because it was
delivered in a way those young minds would rather hear and listen to. His satirical and humorous
word and phrase choices engaged his audience and strengthened

Persuasive Essay About Depression And Anxiety
On May 28th, 2013, when I was 14 I lost my best friend, Gloria, due to lung cancer, and less than a
year later I lost my other best friend his name was Devin Michael Merrigan and he killed himself.
This led to a depressive state of mind. I stopped eating, I stopped associating with people, I started
cutting myself, I started having suicidal thoughts, and I hated the fact that I was alive and my
friends weren't. I would have anxiety attacks at school, at home, at church, and any other place I
would go basically, it was probably one of the worst times of my life, but I found out that you can
get help from suffering with depression and anxiety and it's not something you should deal with
alone it's something you need people to help you with and in this persuasive essay I will talk
about what causes depression and anxiety, the effects of depression and anxiety, and why you
should speak up about depression and anxiety and why you should get help not just for yourself but
for everyone else suffering from the same thing around you. When I interviewed my teacher Ms.
Olsen about depression and anxiety, I asked her "Why should someone speak out about depression
and anxiety?", as someone with a lot of experience dealing with teenagers with these mental
illnesses, she responded with "I believe everyone should speak out about their depression and anxiety
because when you speak out, you can help not only yourself, but you can be an inspiration, or that

Essay on Raising a Child
Becoming a mother was one of the most stressful times in my life. I found out quick that the
advice from the members of the medical profession did not always agree with advice that was
passed down from the older generation of my family. For example, the advice on introducing cereal
to an infant's last bottle at night for a few extra hours of sleep, or being advised to wake an infant
up every two hours in the beginning to feed them, or the most confusing to me the advice on
punishing children in general. Becoming a parent (especially at a young age), I found it difficult to
separate the real and useful advice from the useless or unimportant advice. I became worried that I
maybe really had no idea what I was doing and it became easy for...show more content...
I have to admit it worked. I was so happy that at my daughters next well check up I told the physician
what I had been doing to only get a scolding. Turns out that she could have aspirated on this new
formula concoction and it could stimulate her to over eat in other feedings during the day. He then
said, I should stop and start it when she reached the 4 month mark at least.
The day after I delivered my daughter I was sitting in my postpartum recovery room holding her
while she was sleeping; just looking at her, when her nursery nurse came in and asked me all
types of questions that ended with her asking when was the last time I fed her. She then
proceeded to tell me that I needed to wake up my baby every 2 hours to ensure that I established
my milk supply if I was going to breastfeed, ensure she was growing appropriately, and it would
also help her learn a set schedule for eating. I took her advice and it made since but, then my mother
–in law had to state her opinion when the nurse left the room. She said, "Never wake a sleeping
baby." It was natural for them to sleep, they are growing and they will do it on their own schedule. I
could use a breast pump to encourage my milk to come in, if I thought I needed to.
When my daughter was 2 my husband and I went through a period where we butted heads on how
we were going to discipline her. Both of us growing up were spanked as a form of discipline and I
felt the pressure to raise our child the same. I have to admit that I

What it Means to be an American Essay
What it Means to be an American What does it mean to be an American? In my eyes to be an
American means to have privileges, rights, and freedom. America isn't perfect, but it is one of the
only countries that have rights given to people of different diversities and gender. America does not
have tremendous poverty. Instead we have choices given to us by the people who fought and died
for the American people. Without George Washington and the other patriots who planted the first
seed in the ground and help plant the American nation we live in now who knows what America
would be like now. One of the most important and well–known facts about America is freedom. We
are granted the freedom or choice in our...show more content...
The people in America are given something that not everybody's given. A chance to be successful
and to survive, and most countries are not given that chance. Being in America offers a lot to the
people. One of the most important right America offers to America is the chance to be ourselves
and to live in a place were small wars are not going on between states or communities. The U.S.
gives us a chance to be fed. The people in America are not surrounded by a majority of starving
people. Instead we have one of the most powerful economy in the world. America offers so much
to the people who live in the U.S., but America will always be full of criticism, violence, and
people who are offended by everything. America still seems to manage to be one of the world's
best nations. The first Americans planned America to be as successful as it is, but for America to
be more peaceful. America is not one of the most peaceful places, but it is not the most dangerous
place to live. Even political parties lie and cheat each other. A lot of the Americans are greedy,
because they take advantages of what America offers to their citizens. Even though America is not
perfect I am still glad to live in the U.S.

Essay about Advice to Youth and Mark Twain
Mark Twain, known at the time to be a humorous author, wrote a speech on 'Advice to Youth.'
Twain gives several pieces of advice all with a twist of honesty attached. The way this speech was
written suggest that it would have been delivered at a graduation ceremony. Perhaps Twain was
asked to speak at a college graduation ceremony and was going to deliver this speech. It is the
perfect speech to relate to youth. Twain's advice begins with "always obey your parents..." (Norton,
550) which is sound advice. The rule of obeying one's parents comes right from the Ten
Commandments. Obeying one's parents is a rule that is as old as time, engraved in everyday
teachings. Twain twists this idea and adds "... when they are present" (Norton, 550) saying...show

Twain is relating to the target audience. Twain is getting into the shoes of a youth in their era.
This is one way to get the youth to listen and respond in a positive way. Twain writes every
sentence positively then ends sarcastically. "If a person offends you ... hit him with a brick"
(Norton, 550). This line is hilarious. Twain is telling young adults it is ok to act out aggressively,
just wait for the appropriate time and place. Also, if it is the wrong person you act out against
just apologize and everything will be fine. The lark is commonly used as a symbol in a variety of
ways. Twain uses the lark in the part about going to bed early and waking up early. Waking up
with the sun is the normal time to rise for the year this was written. Depending on the time of year
the sun usually rises at about seven in the morning. Twain says to wake up with a lark is
respectable but "you can easily train him to get up at half past nine" (Norton, 550). Meaning on
average this would give you an extra two and a half hours to sleep in. This is evidence showing
that Twain is writing to teens or college students because they are usually the ones who like to sleep
the day away. Mark Twain's advice on lying is do not get caught. Twain says "once caught, you can
never again be, in the eyes of the good and the pure" (Norton, 550) Meaning once a person lies, that
person is a liar. Branded like cattle, forever having a mark of the liar. It literally scars a

Denzel Washington Make A Difference Speech
As Denzel Washington stood before the graduates of Dillard University at their commencement
ceremony, he sees an opportunity to encourage them of future success through his "Make a
Difference" speech. Having been a student himself, he speaks to them of possible failures and
greater prosperities. The speaker wants to be a relatable example, as well as a guide for all the
graduates that he is standing before. Throughout this speech, Washington efficiently utilizes diction,
tone, and repetition to appeal to the graduates and encourage them to dream.
Standing on the stage, Washington provides uplifting words as these students move on to greater
things. He uses words such as "dream", "aspire" and "success" (Washington), to provide motivation

The inclusion of himself as an example reassures the audience that there's much more to come and
that after the difficulties, opportunities always rise as he has gone through the same struggles that
they might be facing at this time. He does not want them to worry as typically not all students
have a job right as they graduate, some may even need a graduate degree. Moving on through the
speech, his tone changes to passionate. He instructed to "Fail big... You only live once, so do
what you feel passionate about, take chances professionally" (Washington). This is where he
instructs to make big mistakes but to only grow from them and dare to do things differently. It may
seem completely controversial to advise them of failing, however, through his experience, he
realizes that it takes unpredictable failure to lead to success. Near the end, he revives
encouragement, especially to be unique as "The only way to do it was to go outside the box,"
(Washington), meaning that exploring new means of achieving greatness is not wrong. These tone
shifts are quite essential as they help build up onto the students' emotions and make the speech more
lively and applicable to daily life.
Washington supports a dissimilar way of thinking and creating a new world rather than continuing to
live carelessly in the old one. He demonstrates this through the implication of repetition. He uses this
device in order to emphasize on certain parts which are crucial in justifying his point of

Mark Twain's Advice to Youth
Rhetoric is the study of effective thinking, writing, and speaking strategies and is an essential part
of writing. To be valuable, a text must be developed and written with a clear perspective and
purpose in mind. For most writers they first have to find the function their writing will serve in its
particular context. Writers then need to express this purpose and choose specific rhetorical
strategies which will achieve it. Writers use many different strategies such as symbolism, style,
tone and voice. In Mark Twains "Advice to Youth" his style and tone really allow for him to capture
his audience. Twains humor allows for the young audience to relate to what he is saying. This humor

For example he begins his third paragraph by saying " Be respectful to your superiors, if you have
any, also to strangers and sometimes to others." This is how Twain introduces each piece of
advice all through the speech .By doing this Twain helped the structure and flow of his speech.
Mark Twain ends this speech with these lines "Build your character thoughtfully and
painstakingly upon these precepts, and by and by, when you have got it built, you will be
surprised and gratified to see how nicely and sharply it resembles everybody else's". These last
few lines really sum up what Twain was trying to convey in his whole speech. The idea that we
have to please everybody else, when really all we should be concerned about is ourselves. For
example, when he says "Obey you parents, when there around". They obey there parents in public
to appeal to everyone else. However, we don't do these things for personal satisfaction. Twain was
trying to teach to the youth to think for themselves and stop trying to stick with the social norm,
because in reality, nobody shows us who they really are.
Mark Twain is, according to critics and readers alike, the first great American novelist. Many people
say that Mark Twain's personality was captured in his writing. Twains use of rhetorical strategies are
very apparent and makes his writing some of the best in American history. In this speech, Twains use
of humor and

Definition Essay On Best Advice
What is the worst advice someone has given you? What is the best advice someone gave you?
The definition of advice is to guide someone in a certain direction. I think the best advice that I
can give to Samantha Shirley is to always be respectful, be responsible, and don't stop being kind.
If you want to get somewhere in life you have to be respectful. If you are the boss you are
respectful same as if you are the worker. Being respectful is the first step to greatness. If you can't
show respect then you should be somewhere that doesn't care about respect which is nowhere. You
should not have to ask how to be respectful, you should teach yourself. If a boss was trying to pick
between two people to fire and one of them was very respectful

Freshman Advice For College
Incoming Freshman Advice
When I started high school, I didn't get much academic advice. Everybody told me "have fun, it

worked for, which were not the best. Nobody told me that when colleges are looking at you, they
can go all the way back to freshman year and see your grades. I always figured I could have fun and
do whatever I wanted and just clean up my act by my sophomore year to prepare myself for college.

Satire In Mark Twain's Advice To Youth
Laughter is Bonding People always say that laughter alleviates tension. If this is the case, then it
makes sense that the use of humor when discussing uncomfortable topics can make the conversation
easier and more light–hearted. One of Mark Twain's most frequently used devices in works such as
"Advice to Youth", "To the Person Sitting in Darkness", and TheAdventures of Huckleberry Finn is
satire, which can provide society a method to bond over uncomfortable topics, and facilitate the
ability to sustain that bond through an easier way to create discussion. In "Advice to Youth",Mark
Twain uses satire to provide advice to two different audiences: the youth and their parents, and
therefore, the two groups can come together over the essay....show more content...
Huck Finn is a historical fiction novel that uses offensive language in a satirical way to portray
slavery in the nineteenth century. The novel is questioned for its historical inaccuracies and use in
junior high and high school classrooms. Some believe that the "reading aloud of Huckleberry Finn
in our classrooms is humiliating and insulting to black students" (Wallace, 17). Yet, others believe
that "one gathers a deeper understanding of the meaning of living in a slave society such as the
one Huck and his peers lived in" (Barksdale, 49). Because of the novel's vulgar language and
repeated use of the "n–word": "the appellation commonly used for slaves in slavery time, appears
more than 200 times", the novel can become a source of discussion within the classroom
environment (Barksdale, 52). Although students would have to be prepared for the "far–flung
historical and psychological causes and consequences", after reading the novel, its negativity and
racial discrimination can be discussed rather than its status as a literary classic (Barksdale, 53).
This novel can create a safe way to discuss the use of racial profanities as well as racism during the
19th and 20th centuries compared to the racism experienced in the 21st century. If teachers and
students are able to discuss The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn in a constructive manner rather than

Advice
Advice – Is it Better to Give than to Receive?
Advice and the language it's given in can work only if the person in need of it can handle what is
being said to them and accept it. Otherwise it just goes in one ear and out the other. Advice to me
needs to be spoken in a calm and rational way or I tend not to listen to it. It can be advice from
parents, relatives, friends, colleagues, or just about anyone, even myself.
Advice given to me when I was younger was a lot different than when I got older. I tended not to
listen to my parents. At nine and ten, they gave me an allowance. I saw it as money to run out and
spend on candy. They saw it as a learning opportunity and a chance to instill a value system in me.
At first I didn't take...show more content...
As I got older, the advice I sought was more critical. Especially during my teenage years. At this
age, people warned me of the danger in underage drinking. I took their advice and stayed out of
trouble. Mike Perpich and Jackie Brooks talked about this in their papers also. Their questions
about underage drinking were the same kind I had. They followed the advice from teachers and the
outcome was positive. Even if Mike lost some friends, the end result was something he could be
proud of.
Getting older has shown me the advice I receive is harder to sink in. In Jackie's story it is easy to
relate to her frustration with her builder. I don't think anyone wants to be told what will and will not
work. The builders advice worked though, because he suggested things and let her realize the
problem on her own.
I recently had a similar experience happen to me. My parents bought some land with an existing
house on it. The house was in desperate need of repair beyond the norm. After much persuasion on
my part, my dad tore the building down. It took a lot of humility on his part to admit he was wrong
and take my advice. The advice was slightly hazed though because of the new house idea I liked so
much.
At my present age, I've had to give more and more advice. Is it because I'm getting older and know
more things? I have no idea. But giving it has taught me to be understanding, compassionate and
learn to be a good listener. It is a good feeling when someone takes

Financial Advice Essay
In the early 1980s, there was an economic downturn in Australia, to find out the cause of this event,
the Australian government has established a financial system survey in the year 1996. This survey
was conducted by a businessman named Stan Wallis. He published his investigation report in 1997,

Good Advice is Hard to Find

he give me advice about something and I say, "Oh yea... huh..." that would be the feeling good
advice.
I also think advice that is good needs to cover the whole spectrum of repercussions if you decide to
take this advice. For example if I were to ask someone about buying a car. The best advice would be
this car is reliable, affordable and in good shape. Instead of this car is a good deal and you can pick
up women in it, and forgetting to mention that it is real likely that this car is going to leave me
stranded at the side of the road. I have really liked advice in my past that includes something I did
not previously know. Some fact or tidbit about my situation really helps me. Another idea that seems
important is that good advice is something you have to remember. If it easily relates to what you are
trying to accomplish then this is not difficult.
Many people in our class have said that you must take the advice given and see if it works before it
is to be taken as good advice. I don't believe you have to take advice for it to be good. I have not
taken advice in my past and I wished I had because I realized later that it would have been a better
decision. I have also realized in some situations that the best advice does not have to

Advice for Dealing With Bullying Essay
Advice for Dealing With Bullying
"If you are worried discuss this with a teacher."
Bullying is not easy to define. Sometimes it involves hitting or kicking. But threats, teasing, and
taunting are more common and can be more damaging.
The word 'bullying' is used to describe many different types of behaviour ranging from teasing or
deliberately leaving an individual out of a social gathering or ignoring them, to serious assaults and
abuse. Sometimes it is an individual who is doing the bullying and sometimes it is a group.
The important thing is not the action but the effect on the victim. No–one should ever underestimate
the fear that a bullied child feels.
This advice sums up the most important actions to take –

I wasn't any wealthier or poorer or a different race.
I used to cry myself to sleep every night. I was miserable. My parents knew and they talked to the
headmaster but he wasn't interested and said he couldn't do anything about it. My parents knew all
the bullies' parents. One girl even lived in the same street and we had been friends since we were
two. Like a sheep she dumped me because no–one else talked to me.
This all happened in primary 6 and I have lost nearly all my self–confidence and hate being on my
own. I'd hate to think this was happening to anyone else. I have a fear that if one girl doesn't talk
to me they will all start again and it will never stop. I don't want it to go on for the rest of my school
life. I couldn't cope." (girl, 14)
A Bully
"I have never actually set out to bully someone myself. It usually comes about when someone is
being annoyed and provides an amusing reaction that I begin to join in. At the time you do not see
it as bullying, although you may have doubts later. I do not think there is anyone at school who has
not bullied someone in one way or another." (boy, 16)
A Parent
"My daughter has been bullied since she was at primary school. Daily she is called names like
'bitch' and 'slag'. We have tried everything but no–one listens. She has threatened to kill herself. All
she wants is to be a happy kid at school with friends. I don't want

Essay About Advice

  • 1. AG2 Support Clients to make use of the advice and guidance service When conducting an IAG interview it is vital as an advisor that I am able to clarify the client's requirements and circumstances in order to agree with them the best course of action to help them achieve their goals or to be able to signpost them to other external organisations and charities. Most clients I give advice and guidance to are jobseekers aged between 18 and 60 or those who are at risk of redundancy. All of my clients have a variety of different situations and aspirations and need to be treated as individuals. The room in which IAG is conducted in is private, spacious and clutter free in order to allow the client to feel secure and allow them to feel relaxed...show more content... As my clients come to see me to help them to find work through either training or employability skills it is important that I have had information on the local labour market, job roles and training courses for them to browse. I also have information, that from my experiences within the employment and welfare to work sectors I have found to be useful to clients when exploring the reasons that they are currently unemployed. Such information is on benefits, local authorities, counselling services, childcare provision, support groups and volunteering resources. I also have established links with a large number of third sector and employability agencies that I am able to refer and signpost clients to. When conducting advice and guidance interviews, it is essential that the client has fully understood a service or a particular course of action so that they can agree that it will be helping them towards their goals and fit in with their individual circumstances. If any such service does not fulfil the requirements and needs of the client then another option must be suggested, or a solution so that the client can use the service. One of the most common examples of clients not being able to attend training sessions is due to the cost of childcare, or having nobody to look after the children. I have agreed with Job Centre Plus that childcare provision can be arranged and paid for by them on behalf of the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. The best advice ever given Dr. Cheryl English 1301.86.87 September 25 The Best Advice Ever Given In life there are many challenges that may either make or break a person. The journey to overcome these challenges is often made easier by a handful of useful advice. This advice doesn't necessarily have to come from a much wiser person. It's the advice itself that is labeled as being wise. Just because someone gives another person wise advice, it doesn't necessarily mean that the task at hand will immediately be overcome. The receiver must use the advice willingly for it to be effective. Some of the best advice I have ever been given was to never burn bridges. My father gave me this advice when I was a teenager. He found out the hard way that burning...show more content... I also know that my father's advice would have been useless if I wouldn't have executed it and just ignored his words. Being so thankful for the power of advice, I have promised myself to take any advice that is free and if I have overcome an obstacle someone else is struggling with, I will always offer my fair share of advice. In my interview with Hope she told me the greatest advice she ever received came from her father. The advice was never to dwell on things that would not benefit her. He gave her the advice because she would stress about friends who were one sided and just dragged her down. In her life this helped her to drown out the negative and focus on the goals and the good things in her life. I can totally relate to this advice as I've dealt with friends who were also negative and one sided. To move forward from negative people is a big step for anyone to make and will benefit the person for the best. This is good advice for anyone to take in a similar situation. As I would give someone the advice I have learned, this is advice I would take away and use to my advantage. In my second interview with Cassie I learned some very valuable things. Cassie told me the best advice she ever received was no matter what happens, keep going, things might seem bad, but it's not over yet and hard work pays off given by a family friend. Cassie says her family friend, Nikki, gave her the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Essay on The Future of Education The Future of Education As teachers our primary concern should be the students and what type of learning environment will be best suited to meet their needs. There are many different opinions as top what the most effective or appropriate curriculum is for the students. I do not believe there is any one philosophy that can provide the ideal curriculum for each and every student. Just as there are numerous methods of teaching, there are also numerous ways to learn. It is essential that we keep this in mind as we help the students achieve their goals and discover their talents. Above all we must encourage the students to try new things and do what we can to prevent limiting them in any way. I do not feel that I...show more content... I think that many of the schools today merely try to prepare the students to move on to college and by doing so exclude the students who are gifted with other abilities that are equally important and useful in society, even though those talents may not necessarily be something that can be refined through a traditional four year college. As a future teacher, I very strongly believe that students need to be shown practical applications of the concepts they are taught. For myself this is especially notable in mathematical applications. As teachers we need to not just show how to work through a problem: we need to show why it works and what it is useful for. Without something to apply the information to math is nothing more than a stream of numbers and formulas that students memorize for a specific test and then quickly forget. By demonstrating specific examples of applications the students will be able to retain some of the information easier and then adapt what they learn to other problems they encounter in the future. Upon graduation I hope to begin teaching Math at the middle school or high school level. Geometry, Trigonometry, and Algebra would be my first choices of classes I would like to teach, but I feel I would enjoy teaching any of the other forms of math. I would prefer to teach in a rural area since that is the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Advice To Youth By Mark Twain Thinking back as a teenager, one of the last things you would want to do is listen to an adult giving you advice on how to behave and become an adult. This was exactly what Mark Twain was asked to do in 1882. He was challenged to write a speech to a class of young girls with instructive advice that would be suitable towards youth. The challenge he faced was how to effectively delivery his message to teenagers without sounding like a preaching adult on what not to do. Twain knew he had to deliver his speech in a unique fashion, to be able to captivate his youthful audience. He uses a non–traditional method that was written with a comedic approach aimed toward the teenage audience, similar to a graduation speech. In his essay Twain addresses...show more content... Mark Twain's "Advice to Youth" is more than just a satirical speech. He is advising youth to prepare to join and be competent in adult life. Twain uses satire and sarcasm as an effective tool to be able to communicate and capture his youthful audience. Since conventional sermons about ethics and morals are often heard and overused during this time, Twain was brilliant enough to understand this and develop an effective technique. Without using this technique, his speech and many of his words may of fell on many of deaf ears. His cleverness cannot be argued with the effective method used to communicate and deliver his monumental speech. However, considering that the true purpose of this message is to bring about a positive message to the teenagers, some may consider his purpose more directed towards the adults mocking the old saying 'do as I say, not as I do' motto. Twain may have been more focused on tying to point out the errors of adult cynicism, with a view toward making society more honest, cooperative, and rational. The end result, although untraditional and sarcastic, his speech and advice was likely absorbed by the teens because it was delivered in a way those young minds would rather hear and listen to. His satirical and humorous word and phrase choices engaged his audience and strengthened Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Persuasive Essay About Depression And Anxiety On May 28th, 2013, when I was 14 I lost my best friend, Gloria, due to lung cancer, and less than a year later I lost my other best friend his name was Devin Michael Merrigan and he killed himself. This led to a depressive state of mind. I stopped eating, I stopped associating with people, I started cutting myself, I started having suicidal thoughts, and I hated the fact that I was alive and my friends weren't. I would have anxiety attacks at school, at home, at church, and any other place I would go basically, it was probably one of the worst times of my life, but I found out that you can get help from suffering with depression and anxiety and it's not something you should deal with alone it's something you need people to help you with and in this persuasive essay I will talk about what causes depression and anxiety, the effects of depression and anxiety, and why you should speak up about depression and anxiety and why you should get help not just for yourself but for everyone else suffering from the same thing around you. When I interviewed my teacher Ms. Olsen about depression and anxiety, I asked her "Why should someone speak out about depression and anxiety?", as someone with a lot of experience dealing with teenagers with these mental illnesses, she responded with "I believe everyone should speak out about their depression and anxiety because when you speak out, you can help not only yourself, but you can be an inspiration, or that little bit of motivation that Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Essay on Raising a Child Becoming a mother was one of the most stressful times in my life. I found out quick that the advice from the members of the medical profession did not always agree with advice that was passed down from the older generation of my family. For example, the advice on introducing cereal to an infant's last bottle at night for a few extra hours of sleep, or being advised to wake an infant up every two hours in the beginning to feed them, or the most confusing to me the advice on punishing children in general. Becoming a parent (especially at a young age), I found it difficult to separate the real and useful advice from the useless or unimportant advice. I was so happy that at my daughters next well check up I told the physician what I had been doing to only get a scolding. Turns out that she could have aspirated on this new formula concoction and it could stimulate her to over eat in other feedings during the day. He then said, I should stop and start it when she reached the 4 month mark at least. The day after I delivered my daughter I was sitting in my postpartum recovery room holding her while she was sleeping; just looking at her, when her nursery nurse came in and asked me all types of questions that ended with her asking when was the last time I fed her. She then proceeded to tell me that I needed to wake up my baby every 2 hours to ensure that I established my milk supply if I was going to breastfeed, ensure she was growing appropriately, and it would also help her learn a set schedule for eating. I took her advice and it made since but, then my mother –in law had to state her opinion when the nurse left the room. She said, "Never wake a sleeping baby." It was natural for them to sleep, they are growing and they will do it on their own schedule. I could use a breast pump to encourage my milk to come in, if I thought I needed to. When my daughter was 2 my husband and I went through a period where we butted heads on how we were going to discipline her. Both of us growing up were spanked as a form of discipline and I felt the pressure to raise our child the same. I have to admit that I Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. What it Means to be an American Essay What it Means to be an American What does it mean to be an American? In my eyes to be an American means to have privileges, rights, and freedom. America isn't perfect, but it is one of the only countries that have rights given to people of different diversities and gender. America does not have tremendous poverty. Instead we have choices given to us by the people who fought and died for the American people. Without George Washington and the other patriots who planted the first seed in the ground and help plant the American nation we live in now who knows what America would be like now. The people in America are given something that not everybody's given. A chance to be successful and to survive, and most countries are not given that chance. Being in America offers a lot to the people. One of the most important right America offers to America is the chance to be ourselves and to live in a place were small wars are not going on between states or communities. The U.S. gives us a chance to be fed. The people in America are not surrounded by a majority of starving people. Instead we have one of the most powerful economy in the world. America offers so much to the people who live in the U.S., but America will always be full of criticism, violence, and people who are offended by everything. America still seems to manage to be one of the world's best nations. The first Americans planned America to be as successful as it is, but for America to be more peaceful. America is not one of the most peaceful places, but it is not the most dangerous place to live. Even political parties lie and cheat each other. A lot of the Americans are greedy, because they take advantages of what America offers to their citizens. • 8. Essay about Advice to Youth and Mark Twain Mark Twain, known at the time to be a humorous author, wrote a speech on 'Advice to Youth.' Twain gives several pieces of advice all with a twist of honesty attached. The way this speech was written suggest that it would have been delivered at a graduation ceremony. Perhaps Twain was asked to speak at a college graduation ceremony and was going to deliver this speech. It is the perfect speech to relate to youth. Twain's advice begins with "always obey your parents..." (Norton, 550) which is sound advice. The rule of obeying one's parents comes right from the Ten Commandments. Obeying one's parents is a rule that is as old as time, engraved in everyday teachings. Twain twists this idea and adds "... when they are present" (Norton, 550) saying...show more content... Twain is relating to the target audience. Twain is getting into the shoes of a youth in their era. This is one way to get the youth to listen and respond in a positive way. Twain writes every sentence positively then ends sarcastically. "If a person offends you ... hit him with a brick" (Norton, 550). This line is hilarious. Twain is telling young adults it is ok to act out aggressively, just wait for the appropriate time and place. Also, if it is the wrong person you act out against just apologize and everything will be fine. The lark is commonly used as a symbol in a variety of ways. Twain uses the lark in the part about going to bed early and waking up early. Waking up with the sun is the normal time to rise for the year this was written. Depending on the time of year the sun usually rises at about seven in the morning. Twain says to wake up with a lark is respectable but "you can easily train him to get up at half past nine" (Norton, 550). Meaning on average this would give you an extra two and a half hours to sleep in. This is evidence showing that Twain is writing to teens or college students because they are usually the ones who like to sleep the day away. Mark Twain's advice on lying is do not get caught. Twain says "once caught, you can never again be, in the eyes of the good and the pure" (Norton, 550) Meaning once a person lies, that person is a liar. • 9. Denzel Washington Make A Difference Speech As Denzel Washington stood before the graduates of Dillard University at their commencement ceremony, he sees an opportunity to encourage them of future success through his "Make a Difference" speech. Having been a student himself, he speaks to them of possible failures and greater prosperities. The speaker wants to be a relatable example, as well as a guide for all the graduates that he is standing before. Throughout this speech, Washington efficiently utilizes diction, tone, and repetition to appeal to the graduates and encourage them to dream. Standing on the stage, Washington provides uplifting words as these students move on to greater things. He uses words such as "dream", "aspire" and "success" (Washington), to provide motivation ...show more content... The inclusion of himself as an example reassures the audience that there's much more to come and that after the difficulties, opportunities always rise as he has gone through the same struggles that they might be facing at this time. He does not want them to worry as typically not all students have a job right as they graduate, some may even need a graduate degree. Moving on through the speech, his tone changes to passionate. He instructed to "Fail big... You only live once, so do what you feel passionate about, take chances professionally" (Washington). This is where he instructs to make big mistakes but to only grow from them and dare to do things differently. It may seem completely controversial to advise them of failing, however, through his experience, he realizes that it takes unpredictable failure to lead to success. Near the end, he revives encouragement, especially to be unique as "The only way to do it was to go outside the box," (Washington), meaning that exploring new means of achieving greatness is not wrong. These tone shifts are quite essential as they help build up onto the students' emotions and make the speech more lively and applicable to daily life. Washington supports a dissimilar way of thinking and creating a new world rather than continuing to live carelessly in the old one. He demonstrates this through the implication of repetition. He uses this device in order to emphasize on certain parts which are crucial in justifying his point of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Mark Twain's Advice to Youth Rhetoric is the study of effective thinking, writing, and speaking strategies and is an essential part of writing. To be valuable, a text must be developed and written with a clear perspective and purpose in mind. For most writers they first have to find the function their writing will serve in its particular context. Writers then need to express this purpose and choose specific rhetorical strategies which will achieve it. Writers use many different strategies such as symbolism, style, tone and voice. In Mark Twains "Advice to Youth" his style and tone really allow for him to capture his audience. Twains humor allows for the young audience to relate to what he is saying. For example he begins his third paragraph by saying " Be respectful to your superiors, if you have any, also to strangers and sometimes to others." This is how Twain introduces each piece of advice all through the speech .By doing this Twain helped the structure and flow of his speech. Mark Twain ends this speech with these lines "Build your character thoughtfully and painstakingly upon these precepts, and by and by, when you have got it built, you will be surprised and gratified to see how nicely and sharply it resembles everybody else's". These last few lines really sum up what Twain was trying to convey in his whole speech. The idea that we have to please everybody else, when really all we should be concerned about is ourselves. For example, when he says "Obey you parents, when there around". They obey there parents in public to appeal to everyone else. However, we don't do these things for personal satisfaction. Twain was trying to teach to the youth to think for themselves and stop trying to stick with the social norm, because in reality, nobody shows us who they really are. Mark Twain is, according to critics and readers alike, the first great American novelist. Many people say that Mark Twain's personality was captured in his writing. Twains use of rhetorical strategies are very apparent and makes his writing some of the best in American history. In this speech, Twains use of humor and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Definition Essay On Best Advice What is the worst advice someone has given you? What is the best advice someone gave you? The definition of advice is to guide someone in a certain direction. I think the best advice that I can give to Samantha Shirley is to always be respectful, be responsible, and don't stop being kind. If you want to get somewhere in life you have to be respectful. If you are the boss you are respectful same as if you are the worker. Being respectful is the first step to greatness. If you can't show respect then you should be somewhere that doesn't care about respect which is nowhere. You should not have to ask how to be respectful, you should teach yourself. If a boss was trying to pick between two people to fire and one of them was very respectful Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Freshman Advice For College Incoming Freshman Advice When I started high school, I didn't get much academic advice. Everybody told me "have fun, it flies by" and boy were they right. What they didn't tell me was the academic part. If I could go back in time, I wish I would have known and understood how much you're freshman year really matters. In my experience, I goofed off in most of my classes freshman year and got the grades I worked for, which were not the best. Nobody told me that when colleges are looking at you, they can go all the way back to freshman year and see your grades. I always figured I could have fun and do whatever I wanted and just clean up my act by my sophomore year to prepare myself for college. Essay On Legal Advice I am writing to you to seek some Legal advice for an issue that's been on–going for the last year and I now feel, enough is enough and I need to take the most appropriate action and I am hoping you can help me, along the way. I can only apologise for the length of this Letter, but unfortunatelay, a significant amount has taken place. I started a full–time contract with The Barker Baker Ltd, of which commenced on the 14th of February 2016, originally I was a retail assistant when I joined, but within weeks, I was promoted to Assistant Manager. I felt my employment was an excellent opportunity and I was honored with such responsibility. At this stage, I was a little optimistic and thought I would let Legal take control of this matter. Several months went by and I received no further response and I am still waiting for correspondence. I don't know if I am entitled to know who the IVA is, but I certainly haven't been given any information and upon enquiring this, I was told by the owner that they will speak to the IVA, but never received a reply. Ironically, it hasn't stopped and I have felt obliged to lend my boss further money, this resulted in me taking out 2 overdrafts and 4 credit cards. I don't know why I just feel like it's a good thing to do and it's helping somebody else. During my time at The Barker Baker, I also obtained phone contracts in my name for the owner and her partner, of which payments are being missed. First of all, I take advice from my mother about my current boyfriend, because she is a very funny yet wise woman. The reason my mother gives me advice about relationships is promptly due to Jay and I always "getting into it", a relationship term meaning disagreement. Second, When I turned to my mother and proceeded to discuss Jay and I's issue, she gave me advice to ignore him, basically watch him beg for my attention. • 16. Satire In Mark Twain's Advice To Youth Laughter is Bonding People always say that laughter alleviates tension. If this is the case, then it makes sense that the use of humor when discussing uncomfortable topics can make the conversation easier and more light–hearted. One of Mark Twain's most frequently used devices in works such as "Advice to Youth", "To the Person Sitting in Darkness", and TheAdventures of Huckleberry Finn is satire, which can provide society a method to bond over uncomfortable topics, and facilitate the ability to sustain that bond through an easier way to create discussion. In "Advice to Youth",Mark Twain uses satire to provide advice to two different audiences: the youth and their parents, and therefore, the two groups can come together over the essay....show more content... Huck Finn is a historical fiction novel that uses offensive language in a satirical way to portray slavery in the nineteenth century. The novel is questioned for its historical inaccuracies and use in junior high and high school classrooms. Some believe that the "reading aloud of Huckleberry Finn in our classrooms is humiliating and insulting to black students" (Wallace, 17). Yet, others believe that "one gathers a deeper understanding of the meaning of living in a slave society such as the one Huck and his peers lived in" (Barksdale, 49). Because of the novel's vulgar language and repeated use of the "n–word": "the appellation commonly used for slaves in slavery time, appears more than 200 times", the novel can become a source of discussion within the classroom environment (Barksdale, 52). Although students would have to be prepared for the "far–flung historical and psychological causes and consequences", after reading the novel, its negativity and racial discrimination can be discussed rather than its status as a literary classic (Barksdale, 53). This novel can create a safe way to discuss the use of racial profanities as well as racism during the 19th and 20th centuries compared to the racism experienced in the 21st century. If teachers and students are able to discuss The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn in a constructive manner rather than Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Advice Advice – Is it Better to Give than to Receive? Advice and the language it's given in can work only if the person in need of it can handle what is being said to them and accept it. Otherwise it just goes in one ear and out the other. Advice to me needs to be spoken in a calm and rational way or I tend not to listen to it. It can be advice from parents, relatives, friends, colleagues, or just about anyone, even myself. Advice given to me when I was younger was a lot different than when I got older. I tended not to listen to my parents. At nine and ten, they gave me an allowance. I saw it as money to run out and spend on candy. They saw it as a learning opportunity and a chance to instill a value system in me. At first I didn't take...show more content... As I got older, the advice I sought was more critical. Especially during my teenage years. At this age, people warned me of the danger in underage drinking. I took their advice and stayed out of trouble. Mike Perpich and Jackie Brooks talked about this in their papers also. Their questions about underage drinking were the same kind I had. They followed the advice from teachers and the outcome was positive. Even if Mike lost some friends, the end result was something he could be proud of. Getting older has shown me the advice I receive is harder to sink in. In Jackie's story it is easy to relate to her frustration with her builder. I don't think anyone wants to be told what will and will not work. The builders advice worked though, because he suggested things and let her realize the problem on her own. I recently had a similar experience happen to me. My parents bought some land with an existing house on it. The house was in desperate need of repair beyond the norm. After much persuasion on my part, my dad tore the building down. It took a lot of humility on his part to admit he was wrong and take my advice. The advice was slightly hazed though because of the new house idea I liked so much. At my present age, I've had to give more and more advice. Is it because I'm getting older and know more things? I have no idea. But giving it has taught me to be understanding, compassionate and learn to be a good listener. It is a good feeling when someone takes Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Financial Advice Essay In the early 1980s, there was an economic downturn in Australia, to find out the cause of this event, the Australian government has established a financial system survey in the year 1996. This survey was conducted by a businessman named Stan Wallis. He published his investigation report in 1997, titled the final report of the deregulation of financial services; it commonly referred to as the 'Wallis Report'. Wallis found that the most suitable structure for Australia will then include two regulators: one who is responsible for prudential regulation of any entity that needs to be cautiously supervised; another one is the market and management of any financial products that are provided to the Australian consumers. • 19. Good Advice is Hard to Find Essay Good Advice is Hard to Find Advice is something that is very important in my life and in the life of most others. It allows us to ask another person their feelings and experiences about certain situations they have encountered in his/hers lifetime and then attempt use that information to help yourself. Good advice however is hard to come by. My dad has many stories that begin with, "Well when I was your age..." This is an example of bad advice. It is hard to relate what he experienced to my life, because of the generations of difference. Good advice to me is something that I ask for, and in my past, has come from people who know me extremely well. I agree with most in that good advice can come from anyone, but the best has come...show more content... I also think advice that is good needs to cover the whole spectrum of repercussions if you decide to take this advice. For example if I were to ask someone about buying a car. The best advice would be this car is reliable, affordable and in good shape. Instead of this car is a good deal and you can pick up women in it, and forgetting to mention that it is real likely that this car is going to leave me stranded at the side of the road. I have really liked advice in my past that includes something I did not previously know. Some fact or tidbit about my situation really helps me. Another idea that seems important is that good advice is something you have to remember. If it easily relates to what you are trying to accomplish then this is not difficult. Many people in our class have said that you must take the advice given and see if it works before it is to be taken as good advice. I don't believe you have to take advice for it to be good. I have not taken advice in my past and I wished I had because I realized later that it would have been a better decision. I have also realized in some situations that the best advice does not have to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
