The document proposes an app for the Oregon and Washington state lotteries that would allow users to scan lottery tickets to check if they've won, see current jackpot amounts, and be reminded how lottery funds support each state even if they lost, through messages from interactive "Phone Genie" characters. The app could help extend the lottery brands and spread awareness of how proceeds fund education, parks, and other programs.
2. The Oregon Lottery® was established in 1984 by
Oregon voters - since then it has been transferring
over $7 billion to support public education,
economic development, state parks and watershed
enhancement.
The Washington Lottery was established in 1982.
It now funds over $100 million for access grants,
state work study awards, and two merit
scholarship programs.
3. The Challenge:
•Concept an app that is time saving and
insightful.
•Extend each brand’s message through this
platform.
•Remind the user of how each lottery is giving
back to their state in a fun and engaging way.
4. The Idea:
An app for Washington and Oregon lottery
(branded differently for each state) that
scans your lottery ticket and lets you know
if you have won.
Sends you quick updates on how much the
jackpot is currently at.
More importantly an app that reminds the
user of all the good things that the lottery
is doing because they bought that ticket.
Even if they lost.
5. The Phone Genie:
Provide the overall appearance of the app
with a more interactive and creative feel
The Phone Genie* is a set of unique and
interesting characters that once chosen
will “live” inside your phone and bring you
either good or bad news about your lotto
numbers.
They will also be there to remind you that
even though you lost you have helped “Sorry you lost BUT you did help
make your state a better place through the Oregon lottery fund the Beaver Creek
lottery. Natural Area”
*Phone Genie does not have to resemble an actual Genie.
6. Millions of people play the lottery
everyday and the lotto (for any
state) is a very recognizable
brand with almost any age group.
By providing this large audience
with an easy to use and
interactive app the Washington
and Oregon lottery will be able to
further extend their brand and
their message of how the lottery is
helping the state.
