1. Review
Now that I have finished my project I can now see my strengths and weaknesses from throughout the project.
One of our first tasks was to fill in a project charter to show what skills we had with different programmes like
Photoshop, Illustrator and modeller and asked about my project management, my strengths and weaknesses.
We then got a project schedule, although I hadn’t been updating it weekly so I had to try and remember when
I did certain tasks. The next task was to find and collect research about existing robots from real life, movie
and games, some examples of what I collected were Mechanical arms used in factories for cars, Marvin from
The Hitch-Hikers Guide to the Galaxy and Clank from Ratchet & Clank.
When designing my sidekick I created a mind-map with a couple of ideas about the profile of the robot and
then from the ideas, I sketched up a draft version of what it would look like. I then scanned both of these onto
the computer to upload to blogger. I feel that I do have some strengths in creating characters but my
weakness is that I get set on an idea and usually don’t look at other outcomes. After that we received a design
pack to draw the sidekick from different angles to reference from for when we are to create the sidekick on
modeller.Once the images were uploaded to modeller and ready to use, I started to use primitive shapes to
build up the sidekick and by using a variation of different tools I made up the sidekick. I did find weaknesses
whilst going through the process on modeller as I do not find easy to use and I did have to have some help
with parts of the sidekick’s creation. Once I had finished the model, I textured the sidekick with basic colours
and brought it to Layout to take multiple shots of the model at different angles. Also, while in Layout, I gave
the sidekick metal textures to give it a more realistic, robotic look. I did struggle with layout a bit but once I
was given some assistance on how to use it, I was quite good with the program.
Overall I feel that the end result of the project was a success. Other than removing a few minor details from
the sidekick, I think that the end product was just as expected.
