2. Music videos demonstrate genre
characteristics- Indie
The indie genre of music video
generally follows a strict set of
guidelines, but the band being in the
video in some way or another is
always the most common. This
video is no different apart from the
fact that the band isn't necessarily
the band. They play different
characters within the video which
contrasts with the majority of other

something which is present in almost
every indie style video.
3. Relationship between lyrics and
visuals The lyrics start with ‘I messed up’
something which correlates with the
body language of the on screen
character. This is of course illustrative
as the lyrics are seen in a physical
form on screen. Because of this,
much of the video is relative to the
lyrics such as when the lyric ‘I’m
always late’ is used as the on screen
character is shown to be late to the
fights which take place in the

you’ is used which certainly has
correlations with the fact that he is indeed
a vampire and someone who is isolated
from society. ‘But you cant blame me for
hating it’ is another lyric which correlates
with the video as the main protagonist is
frequently seen as hating himself because
he is isolated from women.
4. Continued
During the chorus the words ‘kiss her, kiss
her’ which is clearly amplified as he isn't
kissing her but biting her, the use of the bite
lead to this particular scene being strangely
sexual. Something which is especially
relevant within indie music videos as they
frequently contain a lot of features related
to teen angst and girls which are almost
always present, generally in a position in
which they are teasing the male.
Indie films do not typically contain
especially sexual content, although
this does in the way the vampires
seduce the women something which
isn't so much focused on the sexual
element but on the seduction
involved in the video.
5. There is a relationship between
music and visuals
The music within the song doesn’t really have a huge relationship
with what happens on screen, this is typical as usually indie style
music cannot be matched to on screen performances.
Although one scene begins
with a reasonably subdued
quiet bass line as another
group enters the frame. The
bass line gives a feeling of
marching and also builds up
a strange kind tension.
6. 4.The demands of the record label will include the need for lots of
close ups of the artist and the artist may develop motifs which recur
across their work ( a visual style.)
The overall theme of the video is
vampires, so obviously this would
require a variety of close up shots
of the vampires themselves.
These shots generally help to
exaggerate the teeth of the
vampires or the eyes. Close ups
are also used to highlight the
sensual features of later parts of
the video in which the vampires
seduce the women, exaggerating
the sexual nature of the video.
