Do you know that Nonwoven fabrics have reported one of the highest growth rates in the textile fields in recent times? Find out more interesting facts about nonwovens in this new article
Non-woven fabrics are made by bonding fibers together using chemical, heat, mechanical, or solvent treatments rather than weaving or knitting. There are several manufacturing processes for non-wovens including spun-bond/spun-laid, melt blown, needle punching, and spun-lace. The production process for non-wovens is smaller and less expensive than for woven fabrics, though woven fabrics are generally more durable and strong due to their fabric structure.

Industrial engineering optimizes production systems by effectively using human and material resources. It deals with developing floor layouts, work processes, and staffing plans to improve quality and efficiency. Industrial engineers are involved in forecasting, scheduling, inventory management, and ensuring production targets are met. They analyze styles for line settings, determine material needs, and identify staffing requirements to coordinate efficient production. Industrial engineering is needed to streamline processes, improve techniques, monitor performance, and advance factories.

3D printing involves using computer-controlled processes to create 3D objects by depositing material layer by layer. While 3D printing has been used for over 30 years, the fashion industry is just beginning to realize its potential. Current 3D printed textiles lack flexibility and breathability for comfort. Researchers are exploring ways to combine 3D printed panels with traditional fabrics or weave 3D printed fibers. Further development is still needed to create comfortable, wearable 3D printed garments and identify suitable raw materials for mass production.
How emerging economies are affecting supply chains?ThreadSol
Emerging economies are affecting global supply chains in several ways:
1) The economic center of gravity is shifting towards Asian and emerging economies due to their lower costs, strategic locations, and growing middle classes.
2) This is challenging existing supply chain models and infrastructure as logistics and transportation networks struggle to keep up with increasing trade volumes to and from these new economies.
3) Improvements in areas like customs processes, infrastructure, and reducing trade barriers can significantly boost trade and business profitability by lowering supply chain costs and inefficiencies.

Fabric storage and management is crucial for garment manufacturing as fabric costs account for over 70% of total costs. An organized fabric store offers clear visibility of inventory levels and helps with activities like receiving, inspection, and production planning. Proper indexing and demarcated areas for incoming and relaxed fabrics maximize space utilization. This organization improves visibility of current and potential storage capacity, allowing better analysis of capacity and planning to increase it over time. The organization also provides clear visibility of inventory levels, supporting management decisions around replenishment needs and longevity of current stock.

How “Internet of Things” will innovate the apparel industry
1.
2. Introduction
The power balance has shifted in retail sector globally. The power lies in the hands of the
buyer rather than the seller now. Consumers dictate when, what, how and where they wish
to shop.
This is undeniably a threat to the traditional brick-and-mortar retail model. But, this shift
offers tremendous opportunities to the forward-thinking sellers who understand these
consequences and seek for technologies like IoT solutions.
Internet of Things, or IoT can not only help in reducing costs and protecting profit margins
but can also help in business growth, adding services to the product profile, and enhancing
their customer’s buying experiences.
3. So what is IoT?
IoT is a change in the predictable pathways the information used to travel from in the
physical world. When objects get the ability to sense the environment and
communicate, they will become a means for information transfer and sharing globally.
IoT will enable us to connect any device, person or object, to the Internet or/and to
each other. This connection will be managed through on and off switch that can
enable us to control the communication through them.
It will have implications, on privacy and data security. But, it also presents the biggest
opportunity to the retail industry.
4. IoT in Apparel Retail
With IoT connecting individual items via a digital thread, products and sellers will be able to
communicate directly with the customers, with customized communication that is based on
the customer’s needs and concerns.
There are multiple benefits that IoT can offer to retailers, which can act as a competitive
differentiator for them:
1. Till date, wearable technology in the fashion realm has been more or less focused on the
gimmicky features. With IoT, more relevant applications to wearable technology or digital
wardrobes could be made.
2. Apart from improving the post sales experience for the customers, IoT also presents the
retailers with opportunities to improve the customer’s buying process.
5. IoT in Apparel Retail
3. Another benefit that IoT offers retailers is loss prevention and fraud identification. Around 5 to 7%
goods or world trade are counterfeit products. Brands invest a lot of time and money into
counteracting this fraud. IoT will enable brands to efficiently track and identify such goods and
prevent fraudulent sales under their brand name.
4. Lastly, data gathered from individual products that can be situated anywhere in the world, the
IoT technology will provide a crystal clear image of the stocks that can help brands to optimize
their inventory and automate replenishment in a very simple and accurate way based on the actual
customer needs and not just on the retailer’s orders.
6. Conclusion
IoT development and integration into apparel retail is still in its early stages. In a recent
survey, Industry Week highlighted that 40% respondents of their survey believed that this is
the right time to invest in IoT technology. IoT technology also should not be limited to the
areas of strategic developments or data collection but it should be regarded for an overall
IT readiness for apparel supply chains.
