4. Surfing
• Surfing was the first
boardsport, originating in
Polynesian culture.
• We don´t know exacly when it
was “invented”, but it was first
seen by Europeans on a ship
in 1767.
• Hawaii, Australia, and
California are the best places
for surfing
5. Skateboarding
• Skateboarding, was probably
born in the late 1940s. Surfers
in California wanted something
to do when the waves were flat.
• At the beginning it was called
"sidewalk surfing" – a new
wave of surfing on the sidewalk.
• A curious information… No one
knows who made the first
board
• Attention! Skateboarding will
be represented at the 2020
Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
6. Snowboarding
• Snowboarding was inspired
by skateboarding, sledding,
surfing and skiing.
• Modern snowboarding
began in 1965 in the United
States.
• It became a Winter Olympic
sport in 1998 and Paralympic
in 2014.
