1. Overview of Previous SharePoint Experience
In addition to my official SharePoint training through SetFocus, I have practical experience with
SharePoint as well, particularly in the area of web part development. The following screen shots are from a
local community college where I used to work. They enable the searching of courses from the school
catalog by using the Search API syntax for SharePoint’s Enterprise Search engine.
These two shots on the next page show the web part that users can use to filter their search for courses.
They can select from term, time of day, campus, and many other options to see only the courses they are
interested in. This first web part is one I developed from scratch.

3. This next screen shot is an example of the results page you will see after performing the search. I selected
‘Spring 2010’ for term, ‘Morning’ for time of day, ‘ACCT’ for subject, and ‘Metro’ for campus to get
these results. This web part I did not create but I did modify for a previous version of this release (I believe
the version in particular was ver. no. 2.3.2).
To view these web parts in action, go to http://www.tri-c.edu and select Search Courses @ Tri-C from the
left pane. Feel free to make any selections you like and see what you come up with!
