I’m writing this letter in the hopes of two things.
1) I hope that it will be read; ideally in conjunction with my resume.
2) You get to learn more about the person who’s interested in working for your company.
Eleven years ago I packed everything I owned into a Budget rental truck and eagerly drove from Grand
Junction, Colorado to Salt Lake City with my dog, two cats and a beta fish with a fire in my belly to help
change the world.
I had toured the Clark Planetarium for an interview to be the Marketing Manager. When I walked into
the building, I said to myself, “I am going to work here.” I threw all of my energy into that interview and
won them over with a story about how I promoted the Mike the Headless Chicken Festival while working
for a marketing agency.
My time spent with Clark Planetarium was near and dear to me. In fact, I still work with them in my
current position in Salt Lake County’s IT department. Working to inspire space science education in the
Salt Lake Community allowed me the freedom to explore ideas without fear and meet amazing people. I
was introduced to astronauts, world-class adventurers and helped a child with the Make a Wish
Foundation receive his last wish of going to space camp.
Throughout my career, I have always chosen positions that excite me or touch upon something I am
passionate about. Take animals for example. As a self-labeled “cat lady,” I find joy in volunteering my
time and resources to Nuzzles & Co. Animal Rescue and Adoption Center in Park City. Five years ago a
woman who is now a dear friend asked me to hold a kitten. I fell in love. Not just with the kitten (Pinot is
her name), but for the mission of the organization to find loving homes for all animals as a No Kill Utah
(#NKUT) coalition partner.
When I’m passionate about something, I’m all in. Ask those who I have worked with and they will tell
you, “She’s a package deal. The whole person comes to work.”
What does that mean for you?
It means if you choose to bring me in as part of your team, I’ll bring strong analytical skills and a
collaborative effort. It also means I’ll share stories of what my dog has eaten that he shouldn’t have
(that’s Buster), how my cats sometimes like to play kitty rodeo in the middle of the night (Norman,
Pinot, Molly) and where I have adventured (or crashed) on my bicycle.
I work best in places that are creative and where there is an emphasis on building teams that believe in
achieving something great in addition to meeting deadlines. For the details on my credentials, I invite
you to read my full resume, which is attached.
Hoping to hear from you soon,
Danielle (Dani) Weigand
