Students from a London school organized a meeting with community leaders to discuss knife crime and youth safety after a student was attacked. This led to the creation of the City Safe campaign to establish safe havens for young people. The first 30 City Safe havens opened in 2009 on the anniversary of a teenager's murder, and the campaign continued expanding with the mayor's support in establishing the 200th safe haven.

3. The students met and decided to get London Citizens’ leaders to come together to discuss the issues around knife crime and safety of young people. At that meeting, the City Safe campaign was born...

4. May 2008 Teenager Jimmy Mizen is murdered in a bakery in Lee, South East London. The idea of creating ‘Safe Havens’ for young people, which were not there for Jimmy, began soon after.

5. 2008 The idea was simple: give young people a safe place to go when they are in trouble on the streets.

6. May 2009 First 30 City-Safe havens open on Burnt Ash Hill, Lee, on Jimmy Mizen’s Anniversary

7. November 2009 Mayor Boris Johnson confirms City Hall as London’s 200 th City Safe Haven .
