(Raises eyebrows) Thank you… Cory… for that. Today’s top… and only story is about the BAS program at
Daytona State College. We are going to take an in-depth look at the College’s Slogan “DSC is right for
me” and determine if DSC really is right for me……..and by me….I mean you ….the viewers…

                                                 (Close-up)

                                                    Cory
That’s right. But before we get into that, let’s first take a look at the College’s background.

                                                    Rachel
Yes. Daytona State College, originally Daytona Beach Junior College, has been around since 1958. They
currently have five campuses located throughout Volusia County and they offer an array of courses both
in the classroom, half in class and half online and 100% online. The college provides a broad range of
degrees in multiple industries and is not only available to individuals who have their high school diploma
or GED, but it is also open to current high school students for dual-enrollment classes.

                                               (Wide shot)
                                                  Cory
Something else you may not know is that the college has many students from other areas across the
nation and international students as well, both attending classes at the campus and taking courses
                                                 online.

                                                 Rachel
That’s right Cory. The college even offers an opportunity for those who do not have their high school
                                      diploma to receive their GED

                                                   MORE

Let’s keep in mind, though, that the bulk of this newscast is focused on the Bachelor of Applied Science
in Supervision and Management program, which we will gladly expand on now.

                                                 Rachel
According to the Daytona State College website, the BAS program in Supervision and Management
prepares individuals who already have skills in specific occupational and technical areas for supervisory
                                and management roles and positions.

                                                 Cory
The upper-level coursework involved in this program will broaden a student’s knowledge in applied
management practices and will prepare individuals for supervisory and management opportunities
                                    within their technical fields.

                                                Rachel
Only those with Associate’s degrees are eligible to apply for admission into the program.

                                                  Cory
That’s right Rachel. Why don’t you share with us some other interesting findings about the program that
the scholars in our group project revealed while investigating

                                                    Rachel
No problem Cory. The investigation revealed that there are many different fields of degrees offered in
the BAS program. These fields include: Business, education, engineering, psychology, and more to come
in the future. And in this range of fields, there are multiple specialized degrees that students may
                                                 choose from.

                                               Cory
The program also has counselors and academic advisors that are happy to help students choose which
                                   degrees would best suit them.

                                                 Rachel
Assistance is always nice. And with the college’s helpful staff, it’s never too hard to find.

                                                 Cory
Now, let’s talk about the career opportunities that come along with the program. As stated by the
Daytona State College website, students graduating from the program will be prepared to effectively
lead and manage business operations within their technical field of interest.

                                                 Rachel
Earning your bachelor’s degree at Daytona State College will provide the access needed for employees
to advance their skills in the workplace for managerial career opportunities.

Not to put you on the spot on anything Rachel, but speaking of earning your degree from Daytona State
College, didn’t you receive your degree to become an expert ASLer for the blind and deaf? (gestures)

                                                Rachel
                                        You mean an interpreter?

                                                  Cory
                                     Yeah, that sounds about right.

                                                 Rachel
Yes. I did receive my degree in Sign Language Interpretation from DSC and as a special feature for
today’s program, I will be interpreting Mr. Hoffman and our special guest during their interview today…
                                          because she is special

                                                   Cory
That she is. Our first guest today is a woman that I have a great deal of respect for; the recently
appointed president of the BAS club,… Esther Long. Let’s give her a hand everyone (claps)

                                                  Esther
Hello everyone, it’s such a pleasure to be here today

                                              Cory
Esther thanks so much for coming on the show. My first question for you is what can you tell us about
                                        the BAS program?

                                                 Esther
The program has just celebrated its five year anniversary and so far we had over 1,000 students
                                               graduate.

                                                Cory
That’s impressive. What are some of the benefits that come along with the program?

                                                  Esther
A great perk to the program is the BAS club. All students who are enrolled in the college have access to
the club; both non-BAS students and those who are in the program. Also by joining the club, students
will receive extracurricular for their resume and great hands-on experience working alongside industry
executives, lawyers, accountants, and other professionals.

                                                   Cory
Is there a cost to join the club?

                                                  MORE
Esther
Yes. There is a one-time $20 admission fee and every BAS student that joins is instantly enrolled in the
BAS book rental program, which can help students save a possible $2,500 with textbooks by renting
them out every semester for $25 each.

                                                 Cory
Is there a location on campus where students can study?

                                               Esther
Absolutely. The program has its own computer lab and study room for students to use during operating
                                               hours.

                                                Cory
Now Esther, I’m sure that everyone at home is wondering, “What is the mission statement?” . Would
you mind sharing that with us?

                                                  Esther
I thought you would never ask. The BAS Program’s Mission Statement reads(Graphic- typed-full screen)
“To provide access for students to earn a quality baccalaureate education that aligns with the college
and program outcomes to meet local business and industry management workforce needs.” To find
more information about requirements for admission and other topics for the BAS program, please visit

meteorologist, Kate Cornelius. Kate is going to let us know a ‘little’ about the weather, and help us

sunny, with a high chance of a brighter future tomorrow.

  • 1. DSC Is Right for Me (Opening credits: medium shot of both anchors) Cory (Hums intro music) Hello and welcome to Daytona State College News, because the news is happening now. I’m your host, Cory Hoffman, and joining me today is my co-anchor, Rachel Boltz. Rachel, why don’t you say hello to everyone out there… Rachel Hello everyone… I… (Close-up) Cory (Interrupts) Thanks so much, Rachel! Once again, for those of you who didn’t catch it, my name is Cory Hoffman, I’m 6’2”, fully-toned, height/weight proportionate, I actually do enjoy long walks on the beach and yes ladies… I am single (Wide shot)) Rachel (Raises eyebrows) Thank you… Cory… for that. Today’s top… and only story is about the BAS program at Daytona State College. We are going to take an in-depth look at the College’s Slogan “DSC is right for me” and determine if DSC really is right for me……..and by me….I mean you ….the viewers… (Close-up) Cory That’s right. But before we get into that, let’s first take a look at the College’s background. Rachel Yes. Daytona State College, originally Daytona Beach Junior College, has been around since 1958. They currently have five campuses located throughout Volusia County and they offer an array of courses both in the classroom, half in class and half online and 100% online. The college provides a broad range of degrees in multiple industries and is not only available to individuals who have their high school diploma or GED, but it is also open to current high school students for dual-enrollment classes. (Wide shot) Cory Something else you may not know is that the college has many students from other areas across the nation and international students as well, both attending classes at the campus and taking courses online. Rachel That’s right Cory. The college even offers an opportunity for those who do not have their high school diploma to receive their GED MORE
  • 2. Cory Let’s keep in mind, though, that the bulk of this newscast is focused on the Bachelor of Applied Science in Supervision and Management program, which we will gladly expand on now. Rachel According to the Daytona State College website, the BAS program in Supervision and Management prepares individuals who already have skills in specific occupational and technical areas for supervisory and management roles and positions. Cory The upper-level coursework involved in this program will broaden a student’s knowledge in applied management practices and will prepare individuals for supervisory and management opportunities within their technical fields. Rachel Only those with Associate’s degrees are eligible to apply for admission into the program. Cory That’s right Rachel. Why don’t you share with us some other interesting findings about the program that the scholars in our group project revealed while investigating Rachel No problem Cory. The investigation revealed that there are many different fields of degrees offered in the BAS program. These fields include: Business, education, engineering, psychology, and more to come in the future. And in this range of fields, there are multiple specialized degrees that students may choose from. Cory The program also has counselors and academic advisors that are happy to help students choose which degrees would best suit them. Rachel Assistance is always nice. And with the college’s helpful staff, it’s never too hard to find. Cory Now, let’s talk about the career opportunities that come along with the program. As stated by the Daytona State College website, students graduating from the program will be prepared to effectively lead and manage business operations within their technical field of interest. Rachel Earning your bachelor’s degree at Daytona State College will provide the access needed for employees to advance their skills in the workplace for managerial career opportunities. Cory MORE
  • 3. Not to put you on the spot on anything Rachel, but speaking of earning your degree from Daytona State College, didn’t you receive your degree to become an expert ASLer for the blind and deaf? (gestures) Rachel You mean an interpreter? Cory Yeah, that sounds about right. Rachel Yes. I did receive my degree in Sign Language Interpretation from DSC and as a special feature for today’s program, I will be interpreting Mr. Hoffman and our special guest during their interview today… because she is special Cory That she is. Our first guest today is a woman that I have a great deal of respect for; the recently appointed president of the BAS club,… Esther Long. Let’s give her a hand everyone (claps) (Enter Esther) Cory Welcome Esther. Please have a seat Esther Hello everyone, it’s such a pleasure to be here today Cory Esther thanks so much for coming on the show. My first question for you is what can you tell us about the BAS program? Esther The program has just celebrated its five year anniversary and so far we had over 1,000 students graduate. Cory That’s impressive. What are some of the benefits that come along with the program? Esther A great perk to the program is the BAS club. All students who are enrolled in the college have access to the club; both non-BAS students and those who are in the program. Also by joining the club, students will receive extracurricular for their resume and great hands-on experience working alongside industry executives, lawyers, accountants, and other professionals. Cory Is there a cost to join the club? MORE
  • 4. Esther Yes. There is a one-time $20 admission fee and every BAS student that joins is instantly enrolled in the BAS book rental program, which can help students save a possible $2,500 with textbooks by renting them out every semester for $25 each. Cory Is there a location on campus where students can study? Esther Absolutely. The program has its own computer lab and study room for students to use during operating hours. Cory Now Esther, I’m sure that everyone at home is wondering, “What is the mission statement?” . Would you mind sharing that with us? Esther I thought you would never ask. The BAS Program’s Mission Statement reads(Graphic- typed-full screen) “To provide access for students to earn a quality baccalaureate education that aligns with the college and program outcomes to meet local business and industry management workforce needs.” To find more information about requirements for admission and other topics for the BAS program, please visit our website below. (Back to close-up on Cory/ Graphic on bttm of http://www.daytonastate.edu) Cory Well Esther, I believe that’s all the time we have for you today. Thanks so much for joining us again. Esther Thanks so much for having me here (Claps) (Esther Exit) (Close-up) Cory Yes, really… Well, I think it’s that time to check on the weather now from our top and only meteorologist, Kate Cornelius. Kate is going to let us know a ‘little’ about the weather, and help us determine “whether”…or not “DSC is right for me”……and by me we still mean you. …Take it away, Kate!(claps) (Enter Kate) (Close-up) Kate Thank you, Cory. Today’s weather forecast is the same as most days here at Daytona Beach. Mostly sunny, with a high chance of a brighter future tomorrow. MORE

Thanks for joining us for this random, haphazard, unplanned, very odd, and awkwardly formatted newscast. We hope that we’ve brought you to the proper conclusion that DSC is right for me… And by me, I mean you. Cory Here to sign us off is some of our proud graduates of Daytona State College.
